Article Synopsis
  • Hemorrhage after tonsil surgery in children poses serious risks, leading to a study aimed at creating a risk warning model for predicting bleeding post-surgery.
  • The study analyzed data from 8,854 children who underwent tonsillectomy, ultimately focusing on 2,724 cases, to distinguish between those who experienced bleeding and those who did not.
  • Using a random forest algorithm, the model achieved a high prediction accuracy of 98.72% for postoperative bleeding, demonstrating potential for improving clinical decision-making despite needing to enhance the recall rate.

Introduction: Diarrhea is a common clinical condition that can potentially be fatal. Current treatment options often have side effects, such as constipation and vomiting, and there remains a need for more effective therapies. Pickled vegetables, a famous traditional food in China, have been suggested in clinical studies to alleviate diarrhea in children, particularly through the use of pickle water (PW).

To investigate the status of social jet lag (SJL) through sociodemographic factors among clinical nurses and examine the correlation with burnout. There has been relatively little research on the possible factors resulting in SJL among nurses in China and its role in burnout. A multicenter cross-sectional study recruited 596 nurses from 7 Chinese hospitals.

Background: Auditory neuropathy (AN) is a hearing disorder caused by the failure of inner hair cells, auditory nerve synapses and/or auditory nerves. With the development of high-throughput sequencing technology, the genetic factors of AN have been revealed, and genetic testing has become an important tool for identifying different types of AN.

Case Description: To study the genetic cause of nonsyndromic auditory neuropathy in a Chinese family.

This study aimed to investigate the epidemiology and risk factors of nosocomial infection (NI) in pediatric patients who underwent ECMO for respiratory and/or circulatory failure.

Methods: Medical records for patients that were administered underwent ECMO support at Xiangya Second Hospital of Central South University, The Sixth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital, and Children's Hospital Affiliation of Zhengzhou University, from September 2012 to December 2019 were retrospectively reviewed.

Molecular mechanisms of thyroid cancer: A competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) point of view.

Biomed Pharmacother

February 2022

Laboratory Experimental Oncology, Department of Pathology, Erasmus MC, 3015GD Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most prevalent malignancy of the endocrine system. Although there are few treatment choices for individuals with TC, determining the underlying mechanisms is essential for treatment due to the complex carcinogenesis of this disease. Recent pieces of evidence suggest that non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) play an important role in the progression of TC.

Skin malignancies form in tissues of the skin and are the most frequent cancers in the world, with an increasing incidence and a steady fatality rate. They are classified as melanoma or nonmelanoma cancers, which include basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Noncoding RNA transcripts have received increased attention after the thorough analysis of the human genome revealed that most of the genomic components are not encoded to protein.

Objective: Myocardial ischemia reperfusion (MI/RI) stresses the pathological process of progressive aggravation of tissue damage in ischemic myocardium. Isoflurane (ISO) is cardioprotective in MI/RI. Thus, this work aimed to identify the mechanism of isoflurane (ISO) post-treatment in MI/RI by regulating microRNA-378 (miR-378) and mitogen-activated protein kinase 1 (MAPK1).

Prognostic Value of Autophagy, Microsatellite Instability, and Mutations in Colorectal Cancer.

J Cancer

April 2021

Department of Pathology, Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Henan Cancer Hospital, 127 Dongming Road, Zhengzhou 450008, China.

Autophagy plays pivotal role in various tumors, including colorectal cancer (CRC). Microsatellite instability (MSI) and mutations are also involved in response to the adjuvant therapy of CRC. We aimed to investigate the relationships among autophagy, mutations, MSI, clinicopathological parameters, and prognosis in CRC patients.

Prognostic value of platelet-associated biomarkers in rectal cancer patients received neoadjuvant chemoradiation: A retrospective study.

Cancer Radiother

April 2021

General surgery, Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Henan Cancer Hospital, No. 127, Dongming road, Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China. Electronic address:

Purpose: Platelet volume has been shown to prognostic value in patients with colorectal cancer. However, the changes of other platelet-associated biomarkers in rectal cancer patients, before and after the neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (NACRT), remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the prognostic value of platelet-associated biomarkers in rectal cancer patients with NACRT.

Purposes Several studies have reported that elevated red  cell distribution width (RDW) is related to poor prognosis in several cancers; however, the prognostic significance of perioperative RDW in rectal cancer patients which received neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (NACRT) is unclear. Methods A total of 120 rectal cancer patients who received NACRT followed surgery were retrospectively reviewed from Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University between 2013 to 2015. Data for peripheral blood tests prior to the initiation of NACRT,before surgery and first chemotherapy after surgery were collected, respectively.

Importance: Early diagnosis of retinoblastoma, the most common intraocular cancer, can save both a child's life and vision. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that many children across the world are diagnosed late. To our knowledge, the clinical presentation of retinoblastoma has never been assessed on a global scale.

Objective: To explore the effect of PKA gene on acute T lymphocyte leukemia cells in children and its mechanism.

Methods: Jurkat and Sup-T1 cells were divided into 2 group: control group (Jurkat and Sup-T1 cells treated with non-specific siRNA) and transfected group (Jurkat and Sup-T1 cells transfected with PKA siRNA). The effects of down-regulating the expression of PKA gene on the viability, proliferotion, migration and cell cycle distribution of Jurkat and Sup-T1 cells in 2 groups were analyzed by CCK-8 assay, transwell experiment, cell colony-formation test and flow cytometry; the cyclin-related protein levels after transfection with PKA siRNA were detected by Western blot.
