Background: The systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) is calculated via the following formula: SIRI = monocyte count × neutrophil count/lymphocyte count. The value of the SIRI in predicting the prognosis of gastric cancer (GC) remains controversial. This study revealed the precise effect of the SIRI in predicting GC prognosis through a meta-analysis.

Assessment of sleep quality using cardiopulmonary coupling and its predictive value for delirium in ICU patients.

Objective: To assess sleep quality in intensive care unit (ICU) patients using cardiopulmonary coupling (CPC) analysis and explore its predictive value for delirium.

Method: ICU patients (n = 135) were divided into the delirium group (n = 44) and control group (n = 91) based on the Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU). CPC analysis was used to evaluate the sleep quality of all participants.

Benign phyllodes tumor of the distal end of the ureter: an extremely rare case and literature review.

A phyllodes tumor (PT) is a biphasic fibroepithelial lesion that is most commonly found in breast tissue, whereas it is uncommon in ureter tissue. Only one case has been documented so far. There are some similarities in histology and clinical characteristics between this type of tumor and PT of the female breast: the lesions can be surgically removed, but some recur locally and invade directly into the breast.

Methods: An all-encompassing search across (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and CINAHL) was done, to identify studies, published until August 2023, that report data on sarcopenia and mortality in BC patients. A meta-analysis was then done using a random-effects model.

Background: Chen's Peiyuan Tang (CSPYT) is a compound herbal formula that has shown the potential to enhance ovarian function and reduce autophagy in ovarian granulosa cells, which plays a crucial role in follicular development and maturation. The application of Chinese herbal medicine offers a promising alternative to traditional hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Methods: This study explores CSPYT's therapeutic mechanisms in treating POF, focusing on its modulation of autophagy through network pharmacology and transcriptomics-based analysis, predicting potential interactions and pathways.

In this study, we sought to figure out the choice of surgical approach (right hemicolectomy versus appendectomy), and explore the effect of chemotherapy on appendiceal MANEC.

Methods: patients with appendiceal MANEC from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (2000-2020) were stratified by gender, race, age group, tumor grade, and TNM stage.

Critical role of G protein-coupled receptor 40 in B cell response and the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis in mice and patients.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is marked by joint damage and inflammation, with B cells playing a key role by generating autoantibodies. This study shows that G protein-coupled receptor 40 (GPR40) deficiency in B cells leads to increased activation, proliferation, antibody production, germinal center formation, and class switch recombination. GPR40 regulates Plcγ2 phosphorylation and intracellular calcium flux downstream of the B cell receptor by binding to the Gαq protein.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent cardiac arrhythmia associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Oxidative stress (OS) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of AF, suggesting that targeting OS-related genes could offer novel therapeutic opportunities. This study aimed to identify causal OS-related genes contributing to AF through a comprehensive multi-omics Summary-based Mendelian Randomization (SMR) approach.

Life-course obesity and heart failure: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study.

Heart failure is a multifaceted clinical syndrome, with obesity identified as a significant modifiable risk factor. This study employed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) design, incorporating obesity data across life stages, to elucidate the causal link between obesity and heart failure. Data on heart failure from the 2023 Finngen database and genetic predictors of obesity from the IEU OpenGWAS project were analyzed using the IVW method, MR-Egger regression, weighted median, simple mode, weighted mode, and scatter plots.

Therefore, this work focused on evaluating the precise prognostic role of CONUT for HNC patients through meta-analysis.

Methods: The effect of CONUT on predicting the prognosis of HNC patients was evaluated through calculating combined hazard ratios (HRs) as well as 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

Gastric-acid suppressants (GASs) are commonly prescribed to patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis for various gastrointestinal disorders. However, long-term GAS use has been linked with the risk of enteric peritonitis in this patient population. To assess the association between the enteric peritonitis risk and GAS use in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis for end-stage renal disease, we conducted a systematic search for relevant articles published until December 2023 in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases.
