Peptide-functionalized hydrogel is one of commonly used biomaterials to introduce hydrogel-induced vessel regeneration. Despite many reports about the discoveries of high-active peptides (or ligands) for regeneration, the study on the conjugating methods for the hydrogel functionalization with peptides is limited. Here, we compared the vasculogenic efficacy of the peptide-functionalized hydrogels prepared by two commonly used conjugating methods, 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylamino propyl) carbodiimide (EDC) and Click methods, through cell models, organ-on-chips models, animal models, and RNA sequencing analysis.

Although most differentiated thyroid carcinoma has a clinically favorable prognosis, some of specific types of thyroid cancer (such as anaplastic thyroid carcinoma and advanced papillary thyroid carcinoma) show fatal outcomes and require novel treatments. Immunotherapy is a promising avenue for the treatment of advanced thyroid carcinoma. B7-H3 (B7 homolog 3 protein) and ICAM-1 (intercellular adhesion molecule 1), as two important immune checkpoints (ICPs), is becoming hopeful target spots for immunotherapy.

Introduction: Frailty is a syndrome affecting primarily older adults that can impact disease course, treatment, and outcomes in patients with lung cancer (LC). We systematically reviewed current data on the correlation between frailty and overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and the risk of complications in older patients with LC.
Materials And Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus databases were searched for observational cohort, cross-sectional, and case-control studies involving participants aged 18 years or older diagnosed with LC.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality rate that seriously threatens human health. We aimed to investigate the expression, prognostic value, and immune cell infiltration of lactic acid metabolism-related genes (LAMRGs) in HCC using bioinformatics. The HCC database (The Cancer Genome Atlas-Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma) was downloaded from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).

Background: Cardiac arrest (CA) is one of the leading causes of death globally, characterized by high incidence and mortality. It is of particular significance to determine the prognosis of patients with CA early and accurately. Therefore, we aim to investigate the correlation between albumin-corrected calcium (ACC) and the prognosis in patients diagnosed with CA.

Objectives: Skeletal muscles mitochondrial dysfunction is the main cause of sarcopenia. Both electroacupuncture (EA) and sulforaphane (SFN) have been shown to improve oxidative stress and inflammation levels to maintain mitochondrial function, but the effects and mechanisms of their combination on sarcopenia are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the regulatory effects of EA combined with SFN on sarcopenia.

With the rapid development of histological techniques and the widespread application of single-cell sequencing in eukaryotes, researchers desire to explore individual microbial genotypes and functional expression, which deepens our understanding of microorganisms. In this review, the history of the development of microbial detection technologies was revealed and the difficulties in the application of single-cell sequencing in microorganisms were dissected as well. Moreover, the characteristics of the currently emerging microbial single-cell sequencing (Microbe-seq) technology were summarized, and the prospects of the application of Microbe-seq in microorganisms were distilled based on the current development status.

Background: As a ribosome receptor, LRRC59 was thought to regulate mRNA translation on the ER membrane. Evidence suggests that LRRC59 is overexpressed in a number of human malignancies and is associated with poor prognoses, but its primary biological function in the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains obscure.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate at the expression changes and functional role of LRRC59 in OSCC.

Metabolic (dysfunction)-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is the advanced stage of metabolic (dysfunction)-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) lacking approved clinical drugs. Adenosine A1 receptor (AR), belonging to the G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) superfamily, is mainly distributed in the central nervous system and major peripheral organs with wide-ranging physiological functions; however, the exact role of hepatic AR in MAFLD remains unclear. Here, we report that liver-specific depletion of AR aggravates while overexpression attenuates diet-induced metabolic-associated fatty liver (MAFL)/MASH in mice.

The timing of peritoneal dialysis (PD) initiation, whether conventional-start (planned) or urgent-start (unplanned), may impact the outcomes of PD and the rate of associated complications in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of unplanned/urgent-start PD versus conventional-start PD in this cohort of patients. Electronic search of MEDLINE (via PubMed), EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and Scopus databases was done from inception until July 2023 for studies reporting outcomes of unplanned/urgent-start and conventional-start PD in CKD patients.

Cancer is a leading cause of human death worldwide, and the modulation of the metabolic properties of T cells employed in cancer immunotherapy holds great promise for combating cancer. As a crucial factor, energy metabolism influences the activation, proliferation, and function of T cells, and thus metabolic reprogramming of T cells is a unique research perspective in cancer immunology. Special conditions within the tumor microenvironment and high-energy demands lead to alterations in the energy metabolism of T cells.
