CD34+ cell dose and CMV viremia after haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: a retrospective study.

Background: Patients with hematologic malignancies who undergo Haplo-HSCT (Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation) are at a significantly higher risk for CMV (Cytomegalovirus) infection than individuals with normal immune function. This increased susceptibility to CMV is a major contributor to the morbidity and mortality seen in patients following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Methods: This study involved a retrospective analysis of 113 patients who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for malignant hematological diseases.

Virtual differential phase-contrast and dark-field imaging of x-ray absorption images via deep learning.

Weak absorption contrast in biological tissues has hindered x-ray computed tomography from accessing biological structures. Recently, grating-based imaging has emerged as a promising solution to biological low-contrast imaging, providing complementary and previously unavailable structural information of the specimen. Although it has been successfully applied to work with conventional x-ray sources, grating-based imaging is time-consuming and requires a sophisticated experimental setup.

4D-CT deformable image registration using unsupervised recursive cascaded full-resolution residual networks.

A novel recursive cascaded full-resolution residual network (RCFRR-Net) for abdominal four-dimensional computed tomography (4D-CT) image registration was proposed. The entire network was end-to-end and trained in the unsupervised approach, which meant that the deformation vector field, which presented the ground truth, was not needed during training. The network was designed by cascading three full-resolution residual subnetworks with different architectures.

Predicting early recurrence for resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: a multicenter retrospective study in China.

A precise classification of early recurrence (ER) after radical surgery of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has not been standardized. We aim to develop an optimal cut-off based on scientific evidence to distinguish early and late recurrence (LR) for PDAC after radical surgery and develop a predictive model for ER of PDAC. The best threshold for recurrence-free survival (RFS) was assessed with a minimum -value method, and patients were categorized into ER and LR groups.

Atrial fibrillation in aging population.

With aging, the pathogenesis processes of atrial fibrillation (AF) are heightened. In this article, we review the mechanisms that predispose elderly patients to AF. We also highlight the unique features in diagnosis, stroke prevention, and treatment strategies for the elderly patient with AF.

Effect of interactions between polymorphisms and smoking on coronary artery disease susceptibility.

Objective: This study was designed with the purpose of analyzing the relationship between the interactions of leptin receptor () rs1137101, rs1137100 polymorphisms with smoking and the susceptibility to coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods: The subjects of this study consisted of 101 CAD patients and 110 healthy people frequency-matched with the former in age and sex. The genotyping of polymorphisms were performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationships between VEGF gene polymorphisms and stroke by a meta-analysis.

Significance of MMP11 and P14(ARF) expressions in clinical outcomes of patients with laryngeal cancer.

Background: To evaluate the association of MMP11 and P14(ARF) expression in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) with clinical pathological characteristics and survival.

Methods: The mRNA and protein levels for both genes were determined in 65 LSCC patients. A log-rank test and Cox models were used to compare survival among different groups.

Docosahexaenoic acid has an anti-diabetic effect in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice.

Consumption of fish oil-rich foods containing docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) can result in a low incidence of diabetes. The underlying mechanisms of these anti-hyperglycemic effects are ambiguous. This study aims to investigate the role of DHA in the prevention and treatment of type 1 diabetes in a murine model.
