Nanotechnology

September 2024

State Key Laboratory of Nonlinear Mechanics, Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on the mechanical properties of biphenylene, a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries, by examining how it behaves under stress, especially when lithium ions are inserted or extracted.
  • - Molecular dynamics simulations were used to analyze the effects of different types of near-circular hole defects (circular, square, hexagonal, octagonal) in biphenylene, revealing that these defects have similar mechanical properties despite their shapes.
  • - The research concluded that the area of the defect is more influential on the mechanical properties of biphenylene than the specific shape of the defect, which could inform future developments in two-dimensional materials.

The development of drug resistance remains a major challenge in cancer treatment. Ferroptosis, a unique type of regulated cell death, plays a pivotal role in inhibiting tumour growth, presenting new opportunities in treating chemotherapeutic resistance. Accumulating studies indicate that epigenetic modifications by non-coding RNAs (ncRNA) can determine cancer cell vulnerability to ferroptosis.

Osmotic energy from the ocean has been thoroughly studied, but that from saline-alkali lakes is constrained by the ion-exchange membranes due to the trade-off between permeability and selectivity, stemming from the unfavorable structure of nanoconfined channels, pH tolerance, and chemical stability of the membranes. Inspired by the rapid water transport in xylem conduit structures, we propose a horizontal transport MXene (H-MXene) with ionic sequential transport nanochannels, designed to endure extreme saline-alkali conditions while enhancing ion selectivity and permeability. The H-MXene demonstrates superior ion conductivity of 20.

Contemporary hydrological models often oversimplify or neglect the effects of glacier ablation on watershed hydrological processes, leading to inaccurate simulations. To address this issue, we introduce a glacier ablation module that incorporates glacier ablation, sublimation, meltwater refreezing, and snow accumulation, integrated with the fully distributed hydrological model ESSI-3, forming the Glacier-ESSI-3 model. Application of the Glacier-ESSI-3 model in the headwaters of the Yangtze River (HYaR) and Yellow River (HYeR) demonstrates superior accuracy compared to the ESSI-3 model, effectively capturing the impact of glacier ablation on hydrological dynamics.

Department of Gastroenterology, Aerospace Center Hospital, 15 Yuquan Road, Haidian District, Beijing, 100049, China.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a complex malignancy with poorly understood molecular mechanisms, necessitating the identification of genetic markers. Although Ubiquitin domain-containing protein 1 (UBTD1) has received significant attention in the study of human cancers, its specific role in CRC is yet to be fully clarified. This study sought to examine how UBTD1 expression was associated with various clinical and pathological characteristics of CRC, and to determine its prognostic significance and biological function, utilizing data from clinical samples and large-scale databases.

Background And Objectives: Hyperglycemia is associated with adverse outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) as well as in patients with heart failure. However, the significance of admission glycemic variability (GV) in predicting outcomes among diabetes patients with heart failure (HF) following acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (ASTEMI) remains unclear. This study aims to explore the prognostic value of admission GV and admission glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and HF following ASTEMI.

A Triboelectric-Electromagnetic Hybrid Nanogenerator with Magnetic Coupling Assisted Waterproof Encapsulation for Long-Lasting Energy Harvesting.

Small

October 2024

Beijing Key Laboratory of Micro-Nano Energy and Sensor, Center for High-Entropy Energy and Systems, Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 101400, P. R. China.

Ocean energy harvesting based on a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has great application potential, while the encapsulation of triboelectric devices in water poses a critical issue. Herein, a triboelectric-electromagnetic hybrid nanogenerator (TE-HNG) consisting of TENGs and electromagnetic generators (EMGs) is proposed to harvest water flow energy. A magnetic coupling transmission component is applied to replace traditional bearing structures, which can realize the fully enclosed packaging of the TENG devices and achieve long-lasting energy harvesting from water flow.
