Background/aims: The goal of this study was to assess the clinical profile of myasthenia gravis (MG) in patients diagnosed above 65-years of age (VLOMG) and identify clinical/serological parameters associated with their MG status and prognosis.
Methods: This was a retrospective assessment of consecutive patients with VLOMG (n = 70) Demographics, clinical characteristics, medical comorbidities, the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) severity scale scores, and MGFA Post-Intervention Status (MGFA-PIS) were collected.
Results: The research population was diagnosed with MG at an average age of 73.

Introduction: Data overlapping of different biological conditions prevents personalized medical decision-making. For example, when the neutrophil percentages of surviving septic patients overlap with those of non-survivors, no individualized assessment is possible. To ameliorate this problem, an immunological method was explored in the context of sepsis.

Introduction Peripheral neuropathy is a well-known manifestation of alcohol overconsumption, but neurophysiological confirmation of peripheral nerve damage is costly and sometimes involves invasive procedures. The aim of this study was to investigate the ability of commonly used clinical scales to detect the presence of neuropathy in patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD). Methods Data were collected retrospectively on 116 patients diagnosed with AUD and treated voluntarily in a detoxification special unit.

Remyelination is a crucial regenerative process in demyelinating diseases, limiting persisting damage to the central nervous system (CNS). It restores saltatory nerve conduction and ensures trophic support of axons. In multiple sclerosis (MS) patients, remyelination has been observed in both white and grey matter and found to be more efficient in the cortex.

Foxp3-expressing regulatory T (Treg) cells represent the most highly immunosuppressive cell in the tumor microenvironment (TME) that halts effective anti-tumor immunity. Osteopontin (Opn), an extracellular matrix (ECM) glycophosphoprotein, plays key roles in many types of immune-related diseases and is associated with cancer aggressiveness when expressed by tumor cells. However, its role in Foxp3Treg heterogeneity, function, and stability in the TME is poorly defined.

Digital biomarker (DB) assessments provide objective measures of daily life tasks and thus hold promise to improve diagnosis and monitoring of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients especially those with advanced stages. Data from DB studies can be used in advanced analytics such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to improve monitoring, treatment and outcomes. Although early development of inertial sensors as accelerometers and gyroscopes in smartphones provided encouraging results, the use of DB remains limited due to lack of standards, harmonization and consensus for analytical as well as clinical validation.

Estrogen exposure during menstrual years has been associated with late-life neuroprotection. We explored the presence of an age-sensitive menarche window for cognition in old age and the impact of socioeconomic status and education. We compared neuropsychological performance of 1082 older women [Mean = 72.

Background: Given the paucity of literature on the management of infected metalwork and nonunion in neuropathic diabetic patients, a meta-analysis was designed to investigate the two major complications following Charcot reconstruction performed by means of internal fixation methods.
Methods: We searched PubMed, Scopus and CENTRAL until the 17 of May 2022 for completed studies investigating outcomes following midfoot and/or hindfoot and/or ankle diabetic Charcot reconstruction. For a paper to qualify for inclusion, an internal fixation element should have been considered.

Background: Headache disorders have been associated with anxiety and depressive disorders. The aim of this study was to assess symptoms of anxiety and depression in a large sample of individuals with different headache disorders (HDs) in order to determine whether their frequency differs by headache type.
Methods: Consecutive individuals with headache attending a headache outpatient clinic were interviewed with the HAM-D and HAM-A, along with age, sex, and education matched non-headache individuals.

Aims: Chronic alcohol consumption is well known to cause peripheral neuropathy, affecting both small and large nerve fibers. The aim of this study was to correlate biochemical and neurophysiological findings and investigate possible biomarkers and risk factors for pathogenetic mechanisms of neuropathy in patients diagnosed with alcohol use disorder (AUD).
Methods: Ninety patients diagnosed with AUD were enrolled in this prospective study over a period of 3 years.

Symptomatic treatment of migraine includes patient education, mainly to avoid medication overuse and known trigger factors, as well as pharmaceutical and nonpharmaceutical interventions. Disease-specific and mechanism-based agents include ergotamine and dihydroergotamine targeting the adrenergic, dopaminergic, and serotoninergic systems followed by triptans, specific agonists for 5-HT1B/1D/1F receptors, the latest being more favorable in terms of safety and documentation of efficacy. Recently, antagonists of calcitonin gene-related peptide (gepants) and selective agonists of the 5-HT1F receptor (ditans) have been added, with promising efficacy and safety.

The development and further optimization of the diagnostic criteria for multiple sclerosis (MS) emphasize the establishment of an early and accurate diagnosis. So far, numerous studies have revealed the significance of early treatment administration for MS and its association with slower disease progression and better late outcomes of the disease with regards to disability accumulation. However, according to current research results, both neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative processes may exist prior to symptom initiation.

Objective: Nocebo is a concept of therapeutics referring to unpleasant symptoms attributed by a patient to a drug, due to negative anticipation. Patients receiving oral anti-osteoporotic drugs in randomized controlled trials (RCT) can experience adverse events leading to dropout, implying that nocebo contributes to treatment discontinuation for these drugs. In this study we aim to investigate the nocebo effect of subcutaneous anti-osteoporotic drugs with a higher compliance rate than orally administered drugs.
