Importance: There is limited evidence for therapeutic options for pediatric COVID-19 outside of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).
Objective: To determine whether the use of steroids within 2 days of admission for non-MIS-C COVID-19 in children is associated with hospital length of stay (LOS). The secondary objective was to determine their association with intensive care unit (ICU) LOS, inflammation, and fever defervescence.

The loss of function (LOF) due to mutations in the Filamin A (FLNA) gene may result in abnormality of the FLNA protein. Of the many clinical syndromes, this condition may produce chronic lung disease, which usually presents and is diagnosed in the infant/toddler age group. Its clinical pattern may mimic broncho-pulmonary dysplasia.

Introduction Propofol has long been used as an anesthetic agent during pediatric surgery. Its use in pediatric intensive care units has been largely controversial. A beneficial use of propofol is to facilitate weaning of other pain and sedation infusions such as opiates and benzodiazepines.

Carnitine is an essential amino acid involved in transporting fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane. Fatty acids are a primary source of energy for the myocardium. Studies in adults demonstrated decreased carnitine levels in the ischemic myocardium, but subsequent exogenous carnitine supplementation showed improvement of myocardial metabolism and left ventricular function.

Background: Multicenter contemporary data describing short-term outcomes after initial interventions of neonates with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PA-IVS) are limited. This multicenter study describes characteristics and outcomes of PA-IVS neonates after their initial catheter or surgical intervention and identifies factors associated with major adverse cardiac events (MACE).
Methods: Neonates with PA-IVS who underwent surgical or catheter intervention between 2009 and 2019 in 19 centers were reviewed.

The Fontan procedure (FP) is typically a semi-elective surgery performed between 2 and 5 years of age to complete staged single ventricle palliation. Optimal timing for the FP, particularly in relation to seasonal infectious burden, remains unclear. We queried the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) database for all admissions for viral respiratory infections (VRI) from January 2006 to September 2015 and separately for all admissions with a primary procedure code of FP.

Objectives: Describe the use and findings of cardiopulmonary imaging-chest X-ray (cX-ray), echocardiography (cEcho), chest CT (cCT), lung ultrasound (LUS), and/or cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI)-in COVID-19 hospitalizations in Latin America (LATAM).
Background: There is a lack of information on the images used and their findings during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in LATAM.
Methods: Multicenter, prospective, observational study of COVID-19 inpatients, conducted from March to December 2020, from 12 high-complexity centers, in nine LATAM countries.

Objective: As of early 2021, there have been over 3.5 million pediatric cases of SARS-CoV-2, including 292 pediatric deaths in the United States. Although most pediatric patients present with mild disease, they are still at risk for developing significant morbidity requiring hospitalization and intensive care unit (ICU) level of care.

Objectives: Arginine vasopressin (AVP) is used to treat hypotension. Because AVP increases blood pressure by increasing systemic vascular resistance, it may have an adverse effect on tissue oxygenation following the Norwood procedure.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of continuously captured hemodynamic data of neonates receiving AVP following the Norwood procedure.

Objectives: Caregiver attitudes toward mandating COVID-19 vaccines for their children are poorly understood. We aimed to determine caregiver acceptability of COVID-19 vaccine mandates for schools/daycares and assess if opposition to mandates would result in removal of children from the educational system.
Study Design: Perform a cross-sectional, anonymous survey of adult caregivers with children ≤ 18 years presenting to 21 pediatric emergency departments in the United States, Canada, Israel, and Switzerland, November 1st through December 31st, 2021.

Objective: To evaluate the efficiency of maternal breastfeeding and maternal pain pre- and post-lingual frenulum release procedures in infants with ankyloglossia.
Methods: Infants under 4 months of age with tongue-tie who were actively breastfeeding, and their mothers (mother-infant dyads) were recruited. Infants' ankyloglossia severity was evaluated using the Coryllos® ankyloglossia tongue-tie grading scale.

Purpose: Pediatric sepsis guidelines recommend rapid intravenous fluid (IVF) bolus administration rates (BAR). Recent sepsis studies suggest that rapid BAR may be associated with increased morbidity. We aimed to describe the association between emergency department (ED) IVF BAR and clinical outcomes in pediatric sepsis.

Background: Vasoactive medications are frequently used in the preoperative stage to balance the pulmonary and systemic blood flow. However, not much is known about the effects of these agents during this stage.
Aims: The primary objective of this study was to characterize the acute effects of vasoactive medications in children with parallel circulation before either the hybrid or Norwood procedure.

Social media is an important tool for disseminating accurate medical information and combating misinformation (ie, the spreading of false or inaccurate information) and disinformation (ie, spreading misinformation with the intent to deceive). The prolific rise of inaccurate information during a global pandemic is a pressing public health concern. In response to this phenomenon, health professional amplifiers such as IMPACT (Illinois Medical Professional Action Collaborative Team) have been created as a coordinated response to enhance public communication and advocacy around the COVID-19 pandemic.

Purpose: Although haploinsufficiency of ANKRD11 is among the most common genetic causes of neurodevelopmental disorders, the role of rare ANKRD11 missense variation remains unclear. We characterized clinical, molecular, and functional spectra of ANKRD11 missense variants.
Methods: We collected clinical information of individuals with ANKRD11 missense variants and evaluated phenotypic fit to KBG syndrome.

Objective: The optimal timing for neonatal cardiac surgery is a potentially modifiable factor that may affect outcomes. We studied the relationship between age at surgery (AAS) and outcomes across multiple hospitals, focusing on neonatal operations where timing appears is not emergency.
Methods: We studied neonates ≥37 weeks' gestation and ≥2.

Contemporary multicenter data regarding midterm outcomes for neonates with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum are lacking. We sought to describe outcomes in a contemporary multicenter cohort, determine factors associated with end-states, and evaluate the effect of right ventricular coronary dependency and coronary atresia on transplant-free survival. Neonates treated during 2009-2019 in 19 United States centers were reviewed.

Background: Fluid boluses are frequently utilized in children. Despite their frequency of use, there is little objective data regarding the utility of fluid boluses, who they benefit the most, and what the effects are.
Aims: This study aimed to conduct pooled analyses to identify those who may be more likely to respond to fluid boluses as well as characterize clinical changes associated with fluid boluses.

The primary objective of this study was to determine if serum lactate level at the time of hospital admission can predict mortality in pediatric patients. A systematic review was conducted to identify studies that assessed the utility of serum lactate at the time of admission to predict mortality in pediatric patients. The areas under the curve from the receiver operator curve analyses were utilized to determine the pooled area under the curve.
