Pemphigoid group of dermatologic conditions is a group of autoimmune skin disorders resulting in blistering skin conditions. The two diseases that fall under this category are bullous pemphigoid and pemphigus vulgaris. While there are many similarities in these two disorders, there are numerous pathologic and biochemical differences which help us differentiate between these disorders.

The aim of this exploratory study was to assess the impact of caregiver health literacy (HL) on health care outcomes for their child with asthma. Caregiver dyads across two different healthcare delivery systems completed a battery of validated asthma outcome instruments, including the Newest Vital Sign™ as a measure of HL for the caregivers of children ages 7-18 y. Utilization history was obtained through the electronic medical record.

Osteitis condensans ilii (OCI) is a benign cause of low back pain, which is self-limiting. Though OCI is still an orthopedic mystery, mechanical stress across the joint is a significant triggering factor according to the prevailing theories. The traditional location of involvement is around the ileum, and can be misinterpreted as sacroiliac joint (SIJ) involvement.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by clonal proliferation of follicular mantle zone B lymphocytes. It is caused by abnormal chromosomal translocation t(11;14) resulting in aberrant expression of cyclin D1. This leads to activation of anti-apoptotic pathways and abnormal proliferation of MCL cells.

Immunotherapy (IT) has been studied as a new and alternative treatment option for locally advanced, persistent, recurrent, or relapsed cervical cancer in an effort to extend the life and possibly cure patients with advanced stage disease. Targeted immune checkpoint inhibitors augment anticancer immunity and prolong patient's life span without immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Here, we present a case of a 56-year-old woman, gravida 2 para 0, diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix stage IVB who received IT coupled with subcutaneous injection of immunomodulatory agent (OK-432) during her standard treatment of concurrent chemoradiation therapy (CCRT) and as a maintenance therapy after CCRT due to relapsed cervical cancer.

This study develops and examines the validity and reliability of 2 scales, respectively, for evaluating nursing care and the experience of difficulties providing nursing care for dying patients with cancer and their families. A cross-sectional anonymous questionnaire was administered to nursing staff caring for dying patients with cancer and their families in 4 general hospitals and a university hospital in Japan. The instruments assessed were the Nursing Care Scale for Dying Patients and Their Families (NCD) and the Nurse's Difficulty Scale for Dying Patients and Their Families (NDD).

It is critical to diagnose and treat Legionella pneumonia (LP) immediately after infection because of the associated high mortality. The urine antigen test (UAT) is often used for the diagnosis of LP; however, it cannot detect the serogroups of all Legionella species. A detained medical history and several clinical findings such as liver enzyme elevation and hyponatremia are useful in diagnosis.

Background: One-month dual antiplatelet treatment, with aspirin and clopidogrel, following internal carotid artery stent placement is the current standard of care to prevent in-stent thrombosis. Cilostazol, an antiplatelet drug, has been demonstrated to have a safety profile comparable to aspirin and clopidogrel.

Objective: To evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of cilostazol and aspirin therapy following internal carotid artery stent placement up to 1 month postprocedure.

Objectives: A cline of frequencies of the derived allele of the ALDH2 gene, which causes a deficiency of an enzyme and "facial flushing" in humans who drink alcohol, has been known among the people of the Japanese archipelago. This cline is conventionally explained by admixture with immigrants from the Asian continent occurring during the Yayoi period. Previous studies lack sufficient data from the peripheral regions of the indigenous Jomon people, and those data the ADH1B gene that is involved in the Class I ADH gene cluster and contains another variant leading to a functional change.
