This study investigated the combined effects of proton irradiation and surface pre-treatment on the current characteristics of Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based metal-insulator-semiconductor high-electron-mobility-transistors (MIS-HEMTs) to evaluate the radiation hardness involved with the Silicon Nitride (SiN) passivation/GaN cap interface. The impact of proton irradiation on the static and dynamic current characteristics of devices with and without pre-treatment were analyzed with 5 MeV proton irradiation. In terms of transfer characteristics before and after the proton irradiation, the drain current of the devices without and with pre-treatment were reduced by an increase in sheet and contact resistances after the proton irradiation.

The abnormal self-assembly of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides into oligomers, as well as insoluble fibrils, has been identified as a key factor for monitoring the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The noninvasive imaging of Aβ aggregates utilizing chemical probes can be a powerful and practical technique for accurately diagnosing and monitoring the progress of AD, as well as evaluating the effectiveness of therapeutic drug candidates in treating or managing it. Particularly, the near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging of Aβ plaques is a potentially promising approach toward the efficient detection of the biomarker.

DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are the most deleterious type of DNA lesions because they cause loss of genetic information if not properly repaired. In eukaryotes, homologous recombination (HR) and non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) are required for DSB repair. However, the relationship of HR and NHEJ in DNA damage stress is unknown in the radiation-resistant fungus .

Although cisplatin is one of most effective chemotherapeutic drugs that is widely used to treat various types of cancer, it can cause undesirable damage in immune cells and normal tissue because of its strong cytotoxicity and non-selectivity. This study was conducted to investigate the cytoprotective effects of fruit-derived polysaccharides (CTPS) against cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity in macrophages, lung cancer cell lines, and a mouse model, and to explore the possibility of application of CTPS as a supplement for anticancer therapy. Both cisplatin alone and cisplatin with CTPS induced a significant cytotoxicity in A549 and H460 lung cancer cells, whereas cytotoxicity was suppressed by CTPS in cisplatin-treated RAW264.

Due to lifespan extension and changes in global climate, the increase in mycoses caused by primary and opportunistic fungal pathogens is now a global concern. Despite increasing attention, limited options are available for the treatment of systematic and invasive mycoses, owing to the evolutionary similarity between humans and fungi. Although plants produce a diversity of chemicals to protect themselves from pathogens, the molecular targets and modes of action of these plant-derived chemicals have not been well characterized.

Ascorbate peroxidase (APX) is an important reactive oxygen species (ROS)-scavenging enzyme, which catalyzes the removal of hydrogen peroxide (HO) to prevent oxidative damage. The peroxidase activity of APX is regulated by posttranslational modifications (PTMs), such as S-nitrosylation, tyrosine nitration, and S-sulfhydration. In addition, it has been recently reported that APX functions as a molecular chaperone, protecting rice against heat stress.

Transposable elements (TEs) are ubiquitous repetitive components of eukaryotic organisms that show mobility in the genome against diverse stresses. TEs contribute considerably to the size, structure, and plasticity of genomes and also play an active role in genome evolution by helping their hosts adapt to novel conditions by conferring useful characteristics. We developed a simple and rapid method for investigation of genetic mobility and diversity among TEs in combination with a target region amplification polymorphism (TE-TRAP) marker system in gamma-irradiated sorghum mutants.
