Redifferentiation therapy with Dabrafenib (a BRAF inhibitor) and Trametinib (a MEK inhibitor) restores radioiodine avidity of radioiodine-refractory papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). A 50-year-old man was diagnosed with radioiodine-refractory PTC pulmonary metastasis post prior total thyroidectomy and radioiodine ablation. Enlarged perivascular spaces have been previously reported in cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy, but their significance and pathophysiology remains unclear. We investigated associations of white matter enlarged perivascular spaces with classical imaging measures, cognitive measures and plasma proteins to better understand what enlarged perivascular spaces represent in cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy and whether radiographic measures of enlarged perivascular spaces would be of value in future therapeutic discovery studies for cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy. Despite the prevalence of Parkinson's disease (PD), there are no clinically-accepted neuroimaging biomarkers to predict the trajectory of motor or cognitive decline or differentiate Parkinson's disease from atypical progressive parkinsonian diseases. Since abnormal connectivity in the motor circuit and basal ganglia have been previously shown as early markers of neurodegeneration, we hypothesize that patterns of interregional connectivity could be useful to form patient-specific predictive models of disease state and of PD progression. We use fMRI data from subjects with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), idiopathic PD, and healthy controls to construct predictive models for motor and cognitive decline and differentiate between the four subgroups.

Translocation renal cell carcinoma (tRCC) most commonly involves an ASPSCR1-TFE3 fusion, but molecular mechanisms remain elusive and animal models are lacking. Here, we show that human ASPSCR1-TFE3 driven by Pax8-Cre (a credentialed clear cell RCC driver) disrupted nephrogenesis and glomerular development, causing neonatal death, while the clear cell RCC failed driver, Sglt2-Cre, induced aggressive tRCC (as well as alveolar soft part sarcoma) with complete penetrance and short latency. However, in both contexts, ASPSCR1-TFE3 led to characteristic morphological cellular changes, loss of epithelial markers, and an epithelial-mesenchymal transition.

Aflatoxins (AFTs), a type of mycotoxin mainly produced by Aspergillus parasiticus and Aspergillus flavus, could be detected in food, feed, Chinese herbal medicine, grain crops and poses a great threat to public health security. In this paper, the impact of capillary stalls on microcirculatory characteristics such as flow and hematocrit (Ht) in the cortical angioarchitecture is studied.

Enhancing the performance of Gd chelates as relaxation agents for MRI has the potential to lower doses, improving safety and mitigating the environmental impact on our surface waters. More than three decades of research into manipulating the properties of Gd have failed to develop a chelate that simultaneously optimizes all relevant parameters and affords maximal relaxivity. Introducing aryl substituents into the α-position of the pendant arms of a GdDOTA chelate affords chelates that, for the first time, simultaneously optimize all physico-chemical properties.

In recent years, the discovery of innovative MRI and PET-derived biomarkers has made it possible to detect CAL, and to some extent quantify them, in the brain of persons with multiple sclerosis, in vivo. We describe early ex vivo proof-of-concept testing of a novel system composed of a disposable endorectal coil and converging multichannel needle guide with a reusable clamp stand, embedded electronics, and baseplate to allow for endorectal magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and in-bore MRI-targeted biopsy of the prostate as a single integrated procedure. Using prostate phantoms imaged with standard T 2 -weighted sequences in a Siemens 3T Prisma MR scanner, we measured the signal-to-noise ratio in successive 1-cm distances from the novel coil and from a commercially available inflatable balloon coil and measured the lateral and longitudinal deviation of the tip of a deployed MR compatible needle from the intended target point. Objective: We have previously determined that direct formulation of a phospholipid-based perfluorobutane (PFB) emulsion using high-pressure homogenization produces monodispersed PFB nanodroplets (NDs) with relatively few non-PFB-filled NDs. In this article, we describe a simpler strategy to reproducibly formulate highly concentrated superheated PFB NDs using a probe sonicator, a more widely available tool.

Methods: Similar to the homogenization technique, sonicating at low power a solution of phospholipids with condensed PFB at -10°C consistently yields NDs with an encapsulation efficiency close to 100% and very few non-PFB-filled particles.
