This study aimed to examine potential disparities in hematologic inflammation parameters between children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and their healthy counterparts and to determine whether atomoxetine treatment induced any alterations in inflammation indicators. This case-control study involved 43 children aged 6-13 years, 22 diagnosed with ADHD for the first time, and 21 healthy children. In all children, complete blood count and albumin, C-reactive protein (CRP), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (free T4), folate, vitamin B12, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), creatinine and urea values were performed.

Background: Migraine is a neurovascular disease that can cause ocular and systemic ischemic damage. Despite from aura, a limited number of studies have considered the effect of the chronic migraine in cases without aura. Our aim was to evaluate the differences in the retinal and optic disk microvasculature among episodic and chronic migraine cases without aura using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) imaging.

Background & Objectives: Cerebral contusion (CC) results in a release of catecholamines, autonomic dysfunction and neural stimulation that can lead to a number of cardiac adverse events, so it is critical to determine these. So the objective of this study was to investigate the prognostic significance of electrocardiographic changes, particularly the effects of a prolonged corrected QT (QTc) interval in CC.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 110 patients with CC were evaluated.

Background: Ursolic acid (UA) is found in many plants, and has been reported to have anti-protease, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, nephroprotective, hepatoprotective, and cardioprotective effects.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ursolic acid in cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis (AP).

Materials And Methods: Thirty-two Wistar albino rats were randomly assigned to 4 equal groups: Sham, acute pancreatitis, treatment, and ursolic acid group.

Patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip shows higher digit ratio (2D:4D).

Early Hum Dev

October 2023

Department of Biostatistics, Gaziantep Islam Science and Technology University, School of Medicine, Gaziantep 27010, Turkey.

Background: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) encompasses a range of hip disorders, from dysplasia to dislocation. One key factor is sex, with women being four to eight times more susceptible to DDH than men. However, there have been no studies investigating the second-to-fourth digit ratio (2D:4D), a biomarker of prenatal sex steroid exposure, in DDH patients.

Introduction: Malnutrition is defined as a pathological condition arising from deficient or imbalanced intake of nutritional elements. Factors such as increasing metabolic demands during the disease course in the hospitalized patients and inadequate calorie intake increase the risk of malnutrition. The aim of the present study is to evaluate nutritional status of patients admitted to pediatric intensive care units (PICU) in Turkey, examine the effect of nutrition on the treatment process and draw attention to the need for regulating nutritional support of patients while continuing existing therapies.

: COVID-19 infection can occur as a mild, moderate, or severe illness. How patients will be more serious has not been fully revealed so far. To investigate the role of systemic inflammation index (SII), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), mean platelet volume (MPV), mean platelet volume to platelet ratio (MPR), and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte and platelet ratio (NLPR) in determining the severity of COVID-19 patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the link between restless legs syndrome (RLS) and increased cardiovascular disease risk through the analysis of electrocardiogram parameters.
  • Patients with RLS exhibited abnormal electrocardiogram readings, including a higher frontal QRS-T angle and altered blood cell counts compared to healthy controls.
  • The findings suggest that inflammatory markers like the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio are significantly elevated in RLS patients, indicating a potential increased risk for cardiovascular issues.

Reduced olfactory bulb volume and olfactory sulcus depth in obsessive compulsive disorder.

Psychiatry Res Neuroimaging

July 2023

Adıyaman University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, Adıyaman, 02040, Turkey.

Many studies have shown that limbic system abnormalities are seen in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but the neurobiological changes in OCD are still unclear. Moreover, olfactory bulb volume (OBV) and its association with symptom severity have not been yet investigated in patients with OCD. This is the first study on OBV and olfactory sulcus depth (OSD) values in OCD patients, to the best of our knowledge.

Purpose: Olfactory dysfunction is a well-known complication in epilepsy. Studies have demonstrated that olfactory bulb volume (OBV), olfactory tract length (OTL), and olfactory sulcus depth (OSD) can be reliably evaluated using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In this study, we compared the OBV, OTL, and OSD values of children with epilepsy and those of healthy children (controls) of similar age.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between autonomic instability in panic disorder patients and potential cardiovascular disease risk, focusing on the frontal QRS-T angle.
  • A total of 61 panic disorder patients and 73 healthy controls were analyzed, revealing that panic patients had a larger frontal QRS-T angle and different blood chemistry profiles compared to controls.
  • The findings suggest that the frontal QRS-T angle could be a useful indicator of cardiovascular risk in individuals with panic disorder, particularly as it correlates with the severity of the disorder and various inflammatory markers.
