Excessive consumption of high-fat fructose diet (HFFD) is associated with the development of systemic insulin resistance (InsRes) and further progression into type-2 diabetes (T2DM). InsRes induced hippocampal insulin signaling has serious consequence on hampered sensorimotor, cognitive performance and long term potentiation accompained to neuronal cell death in hippocampus. However, short-term HFFD/Streptozotocin (STZ) mediated hippocampal InsRes and related neurobehavioral alterations in adoloscents have not been reported.

Adina Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, b17km Stone, NH-2, Mathura-Delhi Road P.O. Chaumuhan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh 281406, India.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are nuclear transcription factors. They exist in three isoforms (PPAR-α, PPAR-β/δ, and PPAR-Υ) in humans, but mainly PPAR-Υ, and they are expressed in retinal epithelial pigment. PPARs are involved in mediating numerous pathological implications in eye such as diabetic retinopathy (DR), choroidal neovascularization (CNV), glaucoma, diabetic macular edema, and other retinal diseases.

Bilosomes in the context of oral immunization: development, challenges and opportunities.

Drug Discov Today

June 2016

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI 48201, USA. Electronic address:

Oral administration remains the most favored means of drug administration as far as patient compliance is concerned. For the majority of vaccines and biologics, the oral route is not a good choice because of diminished uptake of the administered dose. Vesicular carriers like liposomes and niosomes are among the potential candidates for vaccine delivery by the oral route but their instability in the gastrointestinal environment is a problem.

Dendrimer technologies for brain tumor.

Drug Discov Today

May 2016

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI 48201, USA. Electronic address:

Despite low prevalence, brain tumors are one of the most lethal forms of cancer. Unfortunately the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a highly regulated, well coordinated and efficient barrier, checks the permeation of most of the drugs across it. Hence, crossing this barrier is one of the most significant challenges in the development of efficient central nervous system therapeutics.

January 2014

Molecular Modelling Lab (MML), Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala 147002, Punjab, India. Electronic address:

Purinergic receptors, also known as purinoceptors, are ligand gated membrane ion channels involved in many cellular functions. Among all identified purinergic receptors, P2X₇ subform is unique since it induces the caspase activity, cytokine secretion, and apoptosis. The distribution of P2X₇ receptors, and the need of high concentration of ATP required to activate this receptor exhibited its ability to function as 'danger' sensor associated with tissue inflammation and damage.
