Diabetes is one of the most prevalent metabolic illnesses that can be fatal, and it is the ninth-largest cause of mortality worldwide. Even though there are effective hypoglycemic medications available for the treatment of diabetes, researchers continue to look for a medication that is more effective and has fewer adverse effects by focusing on various metabolic components such as enzymes, transporters, receptors. The enzyme Glucokinase (GCK), which is present mainly in the liver and beta cells of the pancreas, is involved in maintaining blood glucose homeostasis.

Introduction Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common cancer with increasing morbidity and mortality due to regional invasion, metastasis, and secondary malignancy along with associated medical complications. The degradation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is essential for the progression of carcinoma, hence MMPs are implicated in cancer invasion and metastasis as a biomarker. Objective The primary objective of this study was to find the expression of MMP-21 between oral squamous cell carcinoma and healthy tissue.

Management of condylar fractures includes the closed and open methods. The closed method, although is conservative, has disadvantages such as inadequate reduction, disturbances in occlusion, and a decrease in ramal height. To overcome these disadvantages, surgeons prefer open reduction and internal fixation.

Aim: The study's aim was to assess and compare the clinical parameters, plasma reactive oxygen metabolites (ROM) levels, gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) resistin, serum resistin values, and red complex bacteria in obese or overweight subjects with and without periodontitis and also to determine the effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) on plasma ROM, serum, and GCF resistin values in obese or overweight subjects with chronic periodontitis.

Material And Methods: A total of 160 subjects were recruited and designated into four groups with 40 subjects each as group I - obese with chronic periodontitis; group II - normal weight subjects with chronic periodontitis; group III - obese subjects with healthy periodontium; and group IV - normal weight subjects with healthy periodontium. The periodontal parameters, plasma ROM, GCF resistin and serum resistin, and red complex bacteria levels were estimated at baseline.

Objective: The present study was conducted to explore the allele frequencies of MICA gene Exon-5 transmembrane and to measure the circulatory MICA levels in various histologic grades of patients with oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) compared to healthy individuals.

Study Design: We enrolled a total of 595 patients for this cross-sectional study and divided them into 2 groups: healthy controls (n = 320) and patients with OSF (n = 275). Further, patients with OSF were subdivided based on their histologic gradings.

Introduction: Modern dentistry aims to restore the comfort and health of the stomatognathic system. Dental implants have emerged as a promising option for this purpose. Concentrated growth factors (CGFs) have been suggested to enhance the healing of bone grafts and enhance the integration of implants into the bone.

Context: Disinfection of the root canal system by biomechanical preparation and profuse irrigation is especially important in primary teeth due to its complex pulp canal anatomy. Appropriate selection of irrigating solution should be done in terms of tissue dissolving capacity, antibacterial efficacy, and palatability when treating pediatric cases.

Aim: The aim of the study was to compare the antibacterial efficacy of 2% chlorhexidine (CHX), 0.

Background: Teeth are one of the strongest hard tissues that can resist a variety of antemortem and postmortem insults and an important evidence in the field of medicolegal and forensics. In the identification of unknown human remains of the deceased, stature estimation is a preliminary investigation. Previously, the comparison of osteometry with odontometry in stature determination has been made.

Introduction: A denture wearer is highly prone to develop -associated denture stomatitis (CADS) due to the conversion of the normal oral commensal spp. into a pathogen under favorable conditions. Immuno-compromised status, trauma from the prosthesis, other systemic conditions, and improper maintenance of the dentures by the patient are few of the causative agents which turn the oral balance into an unhealthy and unsuitable foundation for the wearing of the prosthesis.

Introduction: The posterior mandibular region, due to the presence of vital structures, poses a high risk during implant placement because of its susceptibility to neurovascular injury and perforation of the lingual cortex. A breach in implant length and available bone height may lead to serious intraoperative and postoperative complications. Prediction of the exact location of the inferior alveolar nerve and submandibular fossa anatomy is a prerequisite for ideal implant placement, which is always not possible with conventional radiographic and clinical techniques.

Intraoral malignant glomus tumor.

J Oral Maxillofac Pathol

June 2022

Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Sathyabama Dental College and Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Glomus tumors are uncommon, benign solitary tumors derived from the glomus apparatus. We report here a case of a malignant glomus tumor in an 8-year-old child presenting as a multilocular ill-defined radiolucency of the mandible. The lesion microscopically showed sheets of round basophilic cells with high nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, indistinct cell boundaries, nuclear hyperchromatism and nuclear pleomorphism.

Article Synopsis
  • History of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is linked to increased periodontal diseases, and treating periodontal issues may help lower RA risks.
  • This study aimed to evaluate how periodontal therapy affects key health markers in patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and RA, using a double-blind controlled design.
  • Results showed significant improvements in periodontal health and RA activity metrics for the treatment group, but the therapy did not lower certain antibodies related to RA, indicating mixed outcomes.

Aim: The aim of this current study was to compare and evaluate the reversal efficacy of Qmix and chitosan-based irrigation materials quantitatively through the assessment of the push-out bond strength of bioceramic sealer employing universal testing machine and to qualitatively analyze the sealer/dentin interface by scanning electron microscope (SEM) in the teeth subjected to fractioned radiation.

Materials And Methods: Ninety single-rooted straight human maxillary central incisors were randomly divided into six groups ( = 15) where in three groups comprise Chitosan, Qmix, and EDTA/sodium hypochlorite which were not exposed to irradiation while other three groups were challenged with irradiation protocols. Root canals were prepared with ProTaper universal system and all the samples were irrigated according to the final irrigation protocols and obturated with bioceramic sealers.

Background: The study of cell proliferation is important for assessing the tumor behavior, prognosis and patient survival of oral carcinomas. As literature search did not reveal sufficient studies of immunohistochemical expression of cyclin D1 and minichromosome maintenance 2 (MCM2) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and verrucous carcinoma (VC), the present study was undertaken.

Materials And Methods: The study group included 20 cases of histopathologically diagnosed OSCC, 10 cases of VC and 10 cases of normal mucosa (NM).
