Surgical site infection (SSI) is a common postoperative complication that causes significant morbidity, particularly in patients undergoing cranial neurosurgery. The treatment of SSI can attract a significant cost by way of increasing length of stay, readmission and reoperation in some cases. Cranial neurosurgical cases without implant surgery are recommended by the centre for disease control to be surveyed for SSI for a 30-day period.

Background: Research evidence outlines the benefits of intradialytic exercise (IDE), yet implementation into practice has been slow, ostensibly due to a lack of patient and staff engagement. The aim of this quality improvement project was to improve patient outcomes via the introduction of an IDE programme, evaluate patient uptake and sustainability and enhance the engagement of routine haemodialysis (HD) staff with the delivery of the IDE programme.
Methods: We developed and refined an IDE programme, including interventions designed to increase patient and staff engagement that were based on the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF), using a series of 'Plan, Do, Study, Act' (PDSA) cycles.

There is recent evidence of deficits in praxis in patients with primary dystonia. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been linked to disorders of higher-order motor function, such as dystonia. However, no clear mechanism underlying such a relationship has been found.

Purpose: Genetic alterations were previously identified in normal epithelia adjacent to invasive cancers. The aim of this study was to determine DNA methylation in histologically normal tissues from multiple geographic zones adjacent to primary breast tumors.
Experimental Design: First, methylation status of a 4-kb region of RASSF1A promoter was interrogated using oligonucleotide-based microarray in 144 samples (primary tumors, 47; adjacent normals, 69; reduction mammoplasty tissues, 28).

Using indirect whole genome association screening, we have searched for multiple sclerosis susceptibility genes in the genetically isolated high risk Sardinian population. Two screens were performed; the first was based on 229 cases and 264 unrelated controls, and the second on 235 trio families. Each screen employed a dense set of microsatellite markers and DNA pooling.
