Background: Evidence suggests that by recognising the psychosocial component of illness as equally important to the biological components, care becomes more holistic, and patients can benefit. Providing this type of care requires collaboration among health professionals, rather than working in isolation, to achieve better outcomes. However, there is a lack of evidence about the implementation of integrated health care.

Background: The treatment of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) remains a challenge for modern medicine due to its complex pathogenesis. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has accumulated significant value and success in prevention and treatment of diseases, and are regarded as new and promising candidates of AD pharmacological treatments. The current study aimed to systematically evaluate the current evidence base for TCM as a treatment for AD.

Defining the typical characteristics of orthostatic headache in patients with spontaneous intracranial hypotension.

Background: Orthostatic headache (OH) is a common feature of various conditions, including spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH), but no precise definition currently exists outlining the typical OH characteristics. This ambiguity risks misdiagnosis with unnecessary investigations and delay in institution of treatment. The present study aimed to carry out structured phenotyping of OH in patients with SIH with the aim of outlining its typical characteristics.

Immune Cell-Based versus Albumin-Based Ratios as Outcome Predictors in Critically Ill COVID-19 Patients.

Purpose: The aim of the retrospective, single-center study was to assess the prognostic value of immune cell-based and albumin-based ratios regarding lethal outcome in critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Patients And Methods: We analyzed 612 adult critically ill COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) between April 2020 and November 2022. Blood measurement on admission to the ICU encompassed complete blood count (CBC), IL-6, C-reactive protein (CRP), albumin, lactate, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), serum bicarbonate, arterial base deficit/excess (BD/E), and D-dimer.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have the potential for novel treatments of several musculoskeletal conditions due to their ability to differentiate into several cell lineages including chondrocytes, adipocytes and osteocytes. Researchers are exploring whether this could be utilized for novel therapies for joint afflictions. The role of gender in the ability of MSCs to differentiate and proliferate into different cells has not been clearly defined.

Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) are gut-derived peptide hormones that potentiate glucose-dependent insulin secretion. The clinical development of GIP receptor (GIPR)-GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) multi-agonists exemplified by tirzepatide and emerging GIPR antagonist-GLP-1R agonist therapeutics such as maritide is increasing interest in the extra-pancreatic actions of incretin therapies. Both GLP-1 and GIP modulate inflammation, with GLP-1 also acting locally to alleviate gut inflammation in part through anti-inflammatory actions on GLP-1R+ intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes.

Introduction Orthopaedic surgery frequently involves the use of intra-operative radiographs, commonly taken with surgeons standing in close proximity to the X-ray machine. Radiation training and appropriate radiation protection minimise the harm that surgeons can face from ionising radiation. This study evaluates the current state of radiation training and protective equipment available to orthopaedic surgeons in the East of England.

An intracranial yolk sac tumor with initial symptom of hemorrhage in the basal ganglia: a case report.

We report a case and follow-up of an adult male with intracranial yolk sac tumor (YST). Initially, the patient presented with abnormal high signals in the right basal ganglia on MRI, misdiagnosed as a cavernous hemangioma. However, within 2 years, the condition rapidly progressed into a large, hypervascular solid neoplasm leading to a basal ganglia hemorrhage.
