Work-related quality of life has emerged as a central focus in the field of occupational health due to its impact on individual well-being and overall quality of life. So, it is crucial to enhance the current theory by conducting a study on the concept across different sectors. Also, the specific mechanisms through which perceived social support influences work-related quality of life remain underexplored.

Article Synopsis
  • A team of over 180 researchers from more than 40 countries is addressing the issues related to "phantom agents," which are proposed pathogenic agents that are listed without concrete evidence of their existence.
  • These phantom agents, identified only through symptoms and lacking proper isolates or genetic data, create obstacles for trade and plant certification, making effective detection and risk assessment difficult.
  • The researchers recommend removing these agents from regulatory lists and updating standards in line with modern diagnostic methods to facilitate germplasm exchange and support global agriculture.

Objective: We aimed to explore sex differences in clinical and polysomnographic features of OSA in a large nationwide registry.

Methods: Participants from the ongoing Turkish Sleep Apnea Database (TURKAPNE) Study from 34 centers were included in the current analysis.

  • The CMS experiment conducted a search for charge-parity violation in decays using proton-proton collision data from 2018, analyzing around 10 billion events with b hadrons decaying into charm hadrons.
  • The flavor of the neutral D meson was determined through the charge of pions in the reconstructed decays, and an asymmetry measurement in the decays was reported, taking into account various uncertainties.
  • This research marks the first asymmetry measurement by the CMS in the charm sector and the first to use a fully hadronic final state in such analyses.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often leads to hospital readmissions, with a study involving 415 patients in Turkey revealing significant readmission rates of 42.4% within 30 days and 46% within 90 days after severe exacerbations.
  • Key risk factors for 30-day readmissions include high anxiety and depression scores, a history of severe exacerbations, hospital-acquired pneumonia, and frequent antibiotic use.
  • For 90-day readmissions, factors such as severe heart regurgitation, multiple moderate exacerbations, immunosuppression, and being hospitalized via the emergency department were significant contributors.

Background: Patients with microsatellite-instability-high (MSI-H) or mismatch-repair-deficient (dMMR) metastatic colorectal cancer have poor outcomes with standard chemotherapy with or without targeted therapies. Nivolumab plus ipilimumab has shown clinical benefit in nonrandomized studies of MSI-H or dMMR metastatic colorectal cancer.

Methods: In this phase 3 open-label trial, we randomly assigned patients with unresectable or metastatic colorectal cancer and MSI-H or dMMR status according to local testing to receive, in a 2:2:1 ratio, nivolumab plus ipilimumab, nivolumab alone, or chemotherapy with or without targeted therapies.

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

Carbon farming for climate change mitigation and ecosystem services - Potentials and influencing factors.

J Environ Manage

December 2024

Institute of Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology, Leibniz University Hannover, Schneiderberg 50, 30167, Hannover, Germany.

Article Synopsis
  • Carbon Farming (CF) helps reduce CO2 levels by enhancing carbon stocks in soils and plants, providing climate change mitigation and additional ecosystem services benefits.
  • An analysis of six CF methods on cropland in Europe found that their effectiveness varies within different settings, with all measures improving regulating ecosystem services, while trade-offs with economic returns exist.
  • The study highlights that successful implementation of CF may require compensation for ecosystem services, especially in areas where the economic costs of these measures are high.

Introduction: Poly (adenosine diphosphate-ribose) polymerase inhibitors can up-regulate programmed cell death-ligand 1 expression and promote immune-mediated responses and may improve efficacy of first-line anti‒programmed cell death protein 1‒based therapies in patients with metastatic squamous NSCLC.

Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, phase 3 trial (NCT03976362), adults with previously untreated stage IV squamous NSCLC received four cycles of induction therapy (pembrolizumab 200 mg every 3 weeks plus carboplatin and paclitaxel or nab-paclitaxel). Patients with disease control were randomized to 31 cycles of pembrolizumab 200 mg every 3 weeks plus olaparib 300 mg orally twice daily or placebo.

  • A study was conducted with 1703 males and 139 female partners in Turkey to measure average penis size and evaluate couples' perspectives on its importance for sexual satisfaction.
  • The findings showed that the average flaccid penis length was 8.44 cm and the average stretched length was 12.27 cm, with girth measuring 8.23 cm; both males and females considered erect length and girth important for sexual pleasure.
  • Despite the participants' beliefs about the significance of penis size, comparisons indicated no major difference between average measurements and ideal lengths, suggesting many men may not need surgery to meet perceived standards.

This study aims to investigate the effects of a neurofeedback system on cognitive skills, as measured by the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R), in a cohort of 100 children aged 8 to 12 who were diagnosed with attention deficit. A randomized single-blind sham control group design was employed, with 50 participants assigned to the experimental group receiving neurofeedback training and 50 participants assigned to the sham group receiving simulated training. Participants were selected through random sampling from individuals seeking assistance at a specialized education center over the course of one year (May 2021-2022).
