Article Synopsis
  • The Naples prognostic score (NPS) is linked to inflammation and nutrition and was studied for its ability to predict in-hospital mortality in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients undergoing endovascular treatment (EVT).
  • In a study of 244 AIS patients, those with high NPS scores (3 or 4) had a significantly higher mortality rate (41.6%) compared to those with lower scores (21.0%).
  • The findings indicate that including NPS in predictive models enhances the accuracy of mortality predictions, making it a potentially valuable tool for identifying high-risk patients and improving clinical outcomes.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as a well-established treatment option for eligible patients with severe aortic stenosis. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between abdominal fat tissue volumes, measured using computed tomography (CT), and all-cause mortality in patients undergoing TAVR. The study included 258 consecutive patients who underwent TAVR at a single center between September 2017 and November 2020.

Anxiety and mood in patients receiving intravitreal injection.

Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci

February 2024

Objective: Primary debulking surgery has been the preferred surgical route and is still considered a quality indicator for advanced ovarian cancer surgery. However, a significant number of patients are not amenable to upfront surgery. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy and interval debulking surgery may be the most suitable approach for this group.

Significant progress has been made in both valves and delivery systems (DSs) for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures. We aimed to present one-year real-life data regarding TAVR procedures using Portico transcatheter heart valves (THVs) with new-generation, low-profile FlexNav DSs. This retrospective, single-center study enrolled 169 consecutive patients (mean age: 75.

Introduction: Ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) are life-threatening conditions which increase in frequency over the years. Electrical storm (ES) is defined as the occurrence of 3 or more continuous ventricular arrhythmia. The sympathetic nervous system has an important role in Ventricular arrythmias (VA) and is the target of treatment.

The HATCH score [Hypertension (1 point), Age > 75 years (1 point), Stroke/Transient ischemic attack (2 points), Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (1 point), and Heart failure (2 points)] was originally developed to predict the occurrence of new-onset atrial fibrillation. The aim of the present study was to examine whether this score could predict the development of no-reflow phenomenon (NR) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). Patients (n = 1552) with STEMI were consecutively enrolled in this single-center retrospective study.

Aim: Coronary slow flow phenomenon (CSFP) detected on coronary angiography (CA) has been related to poor prognosis. We sought to examine the relationship between thromboembolic risk scores, routinely used in cardiology practice, and CSFP.

Methods: This single-center, retrospective, case-control study comprised 505 individuals suffering from angina and had verified ischemia between January 2021 and January 2022.

Ribociclib, palbociclib and abemaciclib are currently approved CDK4/6 inhibitors along with aromatase inhibitors as the first-line standard-of-care for patients with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer. The authors report retrospective real-life data for 600 patients with estrogen receptor- and/or progesterone receptor-positive and HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer who were treated with ribociclib and palbociclib in combination with letrozole. The results demonstrated that the combination of palbociclib or ribociclib with letrozole has similar progression-free survival and overall survival benefit in real life for the patient group with similar clinical features.

Phyllodes tumours are uncommon breast neoplasms constituting 1-2% of breast malignancies. Metastasis is usually haematogenous, and axillary lymph node dissection is not routinely performed. A phyllodes tumour with concomitant invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is even rarer.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study aimed to compare the rates of major cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) in patients before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing specifically on patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in Turkey.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 1,748 STEMI patients, differentiating between those treated from March 11 to May 15, 2019 (pre-COVID-19) and March 11 to May 15, 2020 (COVID-19 era).
  • - Results showed no significant difference in MACCE rates between the two eras, but COVID-19-positive STEMI patients had substantially worse long-term outcomes, with higher rates of MACCE and heart failure

We investigated the relationship between thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) thrombus grade and thiol/disulfide levels. 182 non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients were divided into two groups; TIMI grade 0 patients who do not have any visible thrombus in their culprit vessels, and TIMI thrombus grade 1-5 patients. Native and total thiol levels and disulfide to thiol ratio were higher in the low thrombus group.

To evaluate the CANLPH score in in-hospital mortality after coronary artery bypass grafting. The 999 patients were included in this retrospective cohort study. Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, C-reactive protein/albumin ratio and platelet/hemoglobin ratio were determined and the CANLPH score was calculated as the sum score of 0 or 1 by the cutoff in each ratio.
