Scots pine is a crucial component of ecosystems in Europe and Asia and a major utility species that comprises more than 60% of total forest production in Poland. Despite its importance, the genetic relationships between key conservation and the commercial value of Scots pine ecotypes in Poland remain unclear. The lipid cis-trans isomerase (Cti) is a periplasmic heme-c enzyme found in several bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a pathogen known for causing nosocomial infections. This metalloenzyme catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of unsaturated fatty acids in order to rapidly modulate membrane fluidity in response to stresses that impede bacterial growth. As a consequence, breakthrough in the elucidation of the mechanism of this metalloenzyme might lead to new strategies to combat bacterial antibiotic resistance.

Plant transcriptomes are complex entities shaped spatially and temporally by a multitude of stressors. The aim of this review was to summarize the most relevant transcriptomic responses to selected abiotic (UV radiation, chemical compounds, drought, suboptimal temperature) and biotic (bacteria, fungi, viruses, viroids) stress conditions in a variety of plant species, including model species, crops, and medicinal plants. Selected basic and applicative studies employing RNA-seq from various sequencing platforms and single-cell RNA-seq were involved.

Pressure dependence of spectral positions of the E → A and T → A bands of Cr ions, resulting from changes in Cr-O covalency and variations in crystal field strength, respectively, is commonly utilized in luminescence manometry. However, as demonstrated in this paper, the luminescence of Cr-Cr pairs shows insensitivity to pressure changes, making this signal suitable as a luminescence reference. The significant difference in the thermal and pressure dependences of luminescence with Cr occupying different crystallographic positions in CaAlO:Cr enables the development of a dual-function luminescence thermometer that operates in both ratiometric and lifetime-based readout modes.

New luminescent nanoparticles with adjustable emission properties were synthesized via a hydrothermal method to investigate the effect of Ce concentration on the tuneable emission properties of Yb/Ho co-doped gadolinium borates. The synthesized samples' comprehensive structural and morphological analysis was conducted utilizing X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. To obtain highly crystalline nanoparticles GdBO:Yb/Ho/Ce characterized by intense and bright emission, they were annealed at 525 °C and 925 °C.

Repeat expansion disorders (REDs) encompass over 50 inherited neurological disorders and are characterized by the expansion of short tandem nucleotide repeats beyond a specific repeat length. Particularly intriguing among these are multiple fragile X-associated disorders (FXds), which arise from an expansion of CGG repeats in the 5' untranslated region of the FMR1 gene. Despite arising from repeat expansions in the same gene, the clinical manifestations of FXds vary widely, encompassing developmental delays, parkinsonism, dementia, and an increased risk of infertility.

Determination of a broad spectrum of analytes, carried out with analytical instruments in samples with complex matrices, including environmental, biological, and food samples, involves the development of new and selective sorption phases used in microextraction techniques that allow their isolation from the matrix. SPME solid-phase microextraction is compatible with green analytical chemistry among the sample preparation techniques, as it reduces the use of toxic organic solvents to the minimum necessary. In order to eliminate the numerous limitations in application of cotton fibers, we designed and made a protective coating that changes many features of these material (such as water repellency or reducing the rate of thermal degradation), but does not change its natural flexibility and macroscopic appearance. The coating we developed consists a UV-crosslinked polysiloxanes together with organophosphates. The coating preparation process takes only a few minutes and takes place easily at room temperature.

Conjugates of steroids and other natural bioactive molecules (such as amino acids or carbohydrates) have proven promising compounds with diverse biological effects. This literature review summarises the importance of steroid conjugates in a broad spectrum of therapeutic applications. Steroid conjugates exhibit improved pharmacokinetic properties, improved target specificity, and reduced side effects compared to the parent compounds.
