Background: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) contribute to patient morbidity and mortality. Hand hygiene is essential for preventing HAIs, but training can fail to transfer to clinical practice. Experiential learning through virtual reality (VR) may improve adherence by offering realistic practice opportunities and feedback.

Introduction: In 2015, Society for Vascular Surgery guidelines on claudication management were released spanning optimal medical management, procedural, and post-procedure recommendations. Uptake of guidelines and changes to clinical practice over time remain unknown. This study hypothesized that guideline aligned practice increased after guideline release.

The incidence and risk factor for febrile urinary tract infection after robot-assisted laparoscopic radical cystectomy in bladder cancer patients.

Introduction: Febrile urinary tract infections are major complications of radical cystectomy; however, their characteristics after robot-assisted radical cystectomy remain unclear. Thus, we investigated the rate, severity, pathogens, and risk factors of febrile urinary tract infections after robot-assisted radical cystectomy.

Patients And Methods: Patients who underwent robot-assisted radical cystectomy at three institutions between April 2018 and March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.

3-Dimensional Investigation of the Vascular Anatomy of the Triquetrum with Micro-Computed Tomography.

Background: This study aims to demonstrate the 3-dimensional pattern of the nutrient vessels of the triquetrum using micro-computed tomography and determine the safe region for screw applications to the bone.

Methods: Seven fresh frozen cadavers' ulnar and radial arteries were injected with Microfil MV-117. Triquetral bones were dissected and examined using micro-computed tomography.

5-methylation (m5C) on mRNA molecules is a prevalent internal posttranscriptional modification in eukaryotes. Although m5C modification has been reported to regulate some biological processes, it is unknown whether most mRNA m5C modifications are functional. To address this question, we analyzed the genome-wide evolutionary characteristics of m5C modifications in protein-coding genes of humans and mice.

Aspirin after completion of standard adjuvant therapy for colorectal cancer (ASCOLT): an international, multicentre, phase 3, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Background: Aspirin is a simple, globally available medication that has been shown to reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of aspirin in the secondary prevention of colorectal cancer.

Methods: This phase 3, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted at 66 centres across 11 countries and territories (ten in Asia-Pacific; one in the Middle East).

Creating a collaborative culture of learning within a network of community mental health early psychosis programs in Texas.

Learning Health Systems (LHSs) promise meaningful health care improvement through the ongoing use of data, including the lived experience of diverse constituents, such as people participating in and providing services. Most LHSs operate within a specific healthcare system, typically hospital-based, under a common electronic health record (EHR) and management structure. The Early Psychosis Intervention Network in Texas (EPINET-TX) is a novel case study of a developing LHS across 16 independent community mental health clinics operating state-funded coordinated specialty care (CSC) programs for early psychosis.

Influence of positive consequences on subsequent incentive ratings and drinking quantity.

Alcohol use is prevalent among young adults, with significant rates of binge drinking and frequent reports of both positive and negative consequences. The current study investigates how positive drinking consequences influence subsequent incentives ratings and drinking behavior. Utilizing mobile daily diary data from 104 young adults over two weeks (event N = 507), we assessed the impact of event-specific positive consequences on future incentive ratings and drinking quantity.

Serum iodine concentration in pregnant women and its association with thyroid function.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the association of serum iodine concentration (SIC) with thyroid function-associated parameters in pregnant women in mild iodine deficient area, and explore its potential to predict individual iodine nutrition status in pregnant women.

Methods: A total of 741 pregnant women undergoing prenatal examinations in their second trimester at the Women's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, from March 2021 to May 2022 were finally recruited into the study. Venous blood and morning urine were collected.

Development and Evaluation of a Presenter Coaching Program at an Academic Surgical Conference.

Objective: Presenting at academic conferences is an important means of disseminating research, networking, and building a professional reputation, but the quality of presentations at conferences is often suboptimal. This project describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of a presentation coaching program offered by an academic surgical society to presenters at its annual meeting.

Design: Oral presenters were paired with a coach and encouraged to meet independently, yet coaching was unstructured.

Enhancing prediction of major depressive disorder onset in adolescents: A machine learning approach.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a prevalent mental health condition that often begins in adolescence, with significant long-term implications. Indicated prevention programs targeting adolescents with mild symptoms have shown efficacy, yet the methods for identifying at-risk individuals need improvement. This study aims to evaluate the utility of Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) in predicting the onset of MDD among non-depressed adolescents, compared to traditional screening methods.

Long COVID, or post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection, leads to vascular dysfunction, which contributes to the chronic multi-organ damage often seen in affected patients. Long COVID, a global health concern is associated with increased thrombotic risk, also known as COVID-19-associated coagulopathy (CAC). Here, we derived an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of a long COVID patient.

Exploring treatment-driven subclonal evolution of prognostic triple biomarkers: Dual gene fusions and chimeric RNA variants in novel subtypes of acute myeloid leukemia patients with KMT2A rearrangement.

Chromosomal rearrangements (CR) initiate leukemogenesis in approximately 50 % of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients; however, limited targeted therapies exist due to a lack of accurate molecular and genetic biomarkers of refractory mechanisms during treatment. Here, we investigated the pathological landscape of treatment resistance and relapse in 16 CR-AML patients by monitoring cytogenetic, RNAseq, and genome-wide changes among newly diagnosed, refractory, and relapsed AML. Association of experienced stigma in healthcare settings with health outcomes among Black women living with HIV: Mediating roles of internalized stigma, anticipated stigma, and trust in HIV care.

Background: Black women living with HIV (WLHIV) often have suboptimal ART adherence due to a multitude of social and structural barriers, including HIV-related stigma. Trust in healthcare providers plays a significant role in adhering to ART and is likely lower among Black WLHIV compared to their White counterparts. This study examined the relationship between experienced stigma in healthcare settings and ART adherence and viral suppression through anticipated stigma in healthcare settings, internalized stigma, and medical mistrust.

The presence of clonal isotype switch after autologous stem cell transplantation as a prognostic biomarker for long-term survival in patients with multiple myeloma.

Clonal isotype switch (CIS) in multiple myeloma (MM) refers to the emergence of new immunoglobulin bands distinct from those present at diagnosis. CIS often appears after high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT), reflecting post-transplant immune recovery. However, its prognostic significance remains unclear.

Gastroesophageal Reflux in Infants and Children: Diagnosis and Treatment.

Gastroesophageal reflux is a common physiologic event in infants in which gastric contents pass from the stomach into the esophagus. Gastroesophageal reflux may be asymptomatic or cause regurgitation or "spit up." This occurs daily in approximately 40% of infants.
