Magnetic resonance imaging safety in Asia-Oceania: call for action.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) safety is a critical concern in the Asia-Oceania region, as it is elsewhere in the world, due to the unique and complex MRI environment that demands attention. This call-for-action outlines ten critical steps to enhance MRI safety and promote a culture of responsibility and accountability in the Asia-Oceania region. Key focus areas include strengthening education and expertise, improving quality assurance, fostering collaboration, increasing public awareness, and establishing national safety boards.

Measurement of Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents Outside the Office for the Diagnosis of Hypertension.

Purpose Of Review: To review the benefits of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and home blood pressure monitoring in children and to discuss implementation of guideline-recommended ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

Recent Findings: Compared with office blood pressure, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and home blood pressure monitoring provide superior accuracy, reproducibility, and stronger associations with target organ damage although future work is needed to determine the utility of home blood pressure monitoring to predict hypertension status on ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Due to the benefits of out-of-office blood pressure measurement, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring has been recommended to confirm the diagnosis of hypertension in children and adolescents since publication of the 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics clinical practice guidelines on hypertension.

The Circadian Rhythm Regulates the Hepato-ovarian Axis Linking Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

This study aimed to identify shared gene expression related to circadian rhythm disruption in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to discover common diagnostic biomarkers. Visceral fat RNA samples were collected from 12 PCOS and 14 non-PCOS patients, a sample size representing the clinical situation and sufficient to capture PCOS gene expression profiles. Along with liver transcriptome profiles from NAFLD patients, these data were analyzed to identify crosstalk circadian rhythm-related genes (CRRGs) between the diseases.

Target-regulated AgS/FeOOH heterojunction activity: a direct label-free photoelectrochemical immunosensor.

Myoglobin (Mb), an important cardiac marker, plays a crucial role in diagnosing, monitoring, and evaluating the condition of patients with cardiovascular diseases. Here, we propose a label-free photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor for the detection of Mb through target regulated the photoactivity of AgS/FeOOH heterojunction. The AgS/FeOOH nanospindles were synthesized and served as a sensing platform for the fabrication of bio-recognized process for Mb.

Ipsilateral concomitant fractures of the clavicle and coracoid process of the scapula: incidence, characteristics, and outcomes.

Background: Clavicle fractures associated with ipsilateral coracoid process fractures are very rare, with limited literature reporting only a few cases. This study reports on 27 patients with ipsilateral concomitant fractures of the clavicle and coracoid process who were followed for more than 12 months.

Material And Methods: This retrospective study reviewed the charts of skeletally mature patients with traumatic ipsilateral clavicle and coracoid process fractures treated at the authors' institution.

HIFs promote the transcription of gene products that play a role in tumor progression including proliferation, angiogenesis, metastasis, and drug resistance.

Development and Validation of KCPREDICT: A Deep Learning Model for Early Detection of Coronary Artery Lesions in Kawasaki Disease Patients.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a febrile vasculitis disorder, with coronary artery lesions (CALs) being the most severe complication. Early detection of CALs is challenging due to limitations in echocardiographic equipment (UCG). This study aimed to develop and validate an artificial intelligence algorithm to distinguish CALs in KD patients and support diagnostic decision-making at admission.

Efficacy and safety of KN026 and docetaxel for HER2-positive breast cancer: a phase II clinical trial.

Background: The standard first-line treatment for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive recurrent/metastatic breast cancer currently includes pertuzumab plus trastuzumab and docetaxel. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of KN026, an anti-HER2 bispecific antibody, plus docetaxel in first-line treatment of HER2-positive recurrent/metastatic breast cancer.

Methods: This open-label, single-arm, phase II study enrolled patients with HER2-positive recurrent/metastatic breast cancer in 19 centers across China from December 30, 2019 to May 27, 2021.

Molecular clustering on ctDNA improves the prognostic stratification of DLBCL patients compared to ctDNA levels.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) levels can help predict outcomes in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), but its integration with DLBCL molecular clusters remains unexplored. Using the LymphGen tool in 77 DLBCL with both ctDNA and tissue biopsy, a 95.8% concordance rate in molecular cluster assignment was observed, showing the reproducibility of molecular clustering on ctDNA.

Despite the study of BCR::ABL1-positive and -negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) providing seminal insights into cancer biology, tumor evolution and precision oncology over the past half century, significant challenges remain. MPNs are clonal hematopoietic stem cell-derived neoplasms with heterogenous clinical phenotypes and a clonal architecture which impacts the often-complex underlying genetics and microenvironment. The major driving molecular abnormalities have been well characterized, but debate on their role as disease-initiating molecular lesions continues.

Online interest in ADHD predicts ADHD medication prescriptions in Australia from 2004 to 2023: A time-series analysis revealing COVID-19-related acceleration.

Objective: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medication prescriptions in Australia have grown sharply in recent years. We examined the association between online interest in ADHD and prescriptions.

Methods: Monthly Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and Repatriation PBS (RPBS) Item Reports of ADHD prescriptions and Australian ADHD-related Google Trends (GT) data (2004-2023) were sourced.

Lineage-dependence of the neuroblastoma surfaceome defines tumor cell state-dependent and independent immunotherapeutic targets.

Background: Neuroblastoma is a heterogeneous disease with adrenergic (ADRN)- and therapy resistant mesenchymal (MES)-like cells driven by distinct transcription factor networks. Here, we investigate the expression of immunotherapeutic targets in each neuroblastoma subtype and propose pan-neuroblastoma and cell state specific targetable cell-surface proteins.

Methods: We characterized cell lines, patient-derived xenografts, and patient samples as ADRN-dominant or MES-dominant to define subtype-specific and pan-neuroblastoma gene sets.

Central Involvement in Pure Autonomic Failure: Insights from Neuromelanin-Sensitive Magnetic Resonance Imaging and F-Fluorodopa-Positron Emission Tomography.

Background: Central synucleinopathies, including Parkinson's disease (PD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and multiple system atrophy (MSA), involve alpha-synuclein accumulation and dopaminergic cell loss in the substantia nigra (SN) and locus coeruleus (LC). Pure autonomic failure (PAF), a peripheral synucleinopathy, often precedes central synucleinopathies.

Objectives: To assess early brain involvement in PAF using neuromelanin-sensitive magnetic resonance imaging (NM-MRI) and fluorodopa-positron emission tomography (FDOPA-PET), and to determine whether PAF patients with a high likelihood ratio (LR) for conversion to a central synucleinopathy exhibit reduced NM-MRI contrast in the LC and SN compared with controls and low-LR patients.

2D and 3D Classification Systems for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: Clinical Implications and Technological Advances.

Classification systems for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) play an important role in guiding both surgical planning and conservative treatments. Traditional 2D classification systems, such as the Lenke, King and Lehnert-Schroth classifications, have been widely used for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of scoliosis. However, with the growing understanding of the three-dimensional nature of scoliosis and advancements in 3D reconstruction technologies, 3D classification systems are gaining increasing attention.

New onset refractory status epilepticus: Long-term outcomes beyond seizures.

We propose and prioritize important outcome domains that should be considered for future research investigating long-term outcomes (LTO) after new onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE). The study was led by the international NORSE Institute LTO Working Group. First, literature describing the LTO of NORSE survivors was identified using a PubMed search and summarized to identify knowledge gaps.

Multiscale Engineered Bionic Solid-State Electrolytes Breaking the Stiffness-Damping Trade-Off.

All-solid-state lithium metal batteries are regarded as next-generation devices for energy storage due to their safety and high energy density. The issues of lithium dendrites and poor mechanical compatibility with electrodes present the need for developing solid-state electrolytes with high stiffness and damping, but it is a contradictory relationship. Here, inspired by the superstructure of tooth enamel, we develop a composite solid-state electrolyte composed of amorphous ceramic nanotube arrays intertwined with solid polymer electrolytes.

Establishing Reference Values in the Neuromuscular Ultrasound Laboratory Using the e-Norms Method: A Feasibility Study.

Introduction/aims: The standard procedure to establish reference values in a neuromuscular laboratory involves examining healthy controls, as nerve size varies with the population and muscle echo intensity (EI) is device-specific. We aimed to derive these reference values by extrapolation from a studied sample (the e-norms method), compare them with published reference values, and determine their diagnostic accuracy.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from consecutive patients who underwent nerve and/or muscle ultrasound in our ultrasound laboratory, which is a tertiary referral center for neuromuscular diseases in Southern Poland in the years 2018-2023.

Granulocyte and Monocyte Adsorption Therapy in Patients With Sepsis: A Feasibility Study.

Background: The pathogenesis of sepsis is thought to be linked to a dysregulated immune response, particularly that involving neutrophils. We have developed a granulocyte adsorption column as a "decoy organ," which relocates the massive inflammation in organs in the body to a blood purification column. This study was conducted to assess the safety and experimental effectiveness of granulocyte monocyte adsorption apheresis-direct hemoperfusion (G1-DHP) in the treatment of patients with sepsis, using a prospective, multicenter design.

Reversion of Supra-Ventricular Tachycardia Through High Positive End-Expiratory Pressure During Mechanical Ventilation in Critically Ill Patients.

The Valsalva manoeuvre is widely recognised for its effectiveness in reverting supra-ventricular tachycardia (SVT) in patients with good coordination. However, this is not applicable in sedated ventilated patients and there is a dearth of literature regarding the application of Valsalva in unconscious patients on mechanical ventilation. The authors, for the first time, present a novel non-pharmacological method to treat SVT in critically ill patients on mechanical ventilation, employing the high positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) technique.

Cell-free fat extract improves embryo development and clinical outcomes in older women with previous in-vitro fertilization failure.

Background: Preimplantation embryos in vivo are exposed to various growth factors in the female reproductive tract that are absent in in vitro embryo culture media. Cell-free fat extract exerts antioxidant, anti-ageing, and ovarian function-promoting effects. However, its effects on embryo quality are yet to be investigated.
