Purpose: Changes in weight-bearing patterns after partial foot amputations may lead to new localized high-pressure points and keratosis due to ulcerations in patients with neuropathies and hypovascular limbs. As a result, diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) after partial foot amputations are very complex. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) therapy with conventional moist wound dressings in the treatment of diabetic wound ulcers after partial foot amputations.

Ventricular septal (VS) rupture after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is an uncommon complication in the reperfusion era. Bedside echocardiography (BECH) continues to be a strong diagnostic tool for emergency physicians treating dyspneic patients, especially for decision-making on the management strategies to use with these unstable patients. In the case we present here, a patient is diagnosed with a delayed mechanical complication after AMI, and a swift management plan is made with the aid of point-of-care BECH.

Background: This biomechanical study evaluates the effect of N-acetylcysteine alone and in combination with the most commonly used antibiotic-loaded bone cement mixtures.
Methods: We mixed eight bone cement mixture groups including combinations of N-acetylcysteine, gentamicin, teicoplanin, and vancomycin and applied a four-point bending test individually to each sample on days 1 and 15 using an MTS Acumen test device.
Results: The result was less than 50 MPa-the limit declared by the ISO (International Standards Organization)-in only the "gentamicin + bone cement + N-acetylcysteine" group.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease, the etiology of which has yet to be clarified, which causes activation of proinflammatory pathways that bring about joint and systemic inflammation. Although peripheral nervous system anomalies are observed widely in RA, very few case reports on changes in the central nervous system (CNS) have been published. In recent years, the pathophysiology of CNS involvement that can occur in RA has attracted a great deal of attention.

Purpose: To evaluate the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCL+) thickness, and macular choroidal thickness (mCT) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).
Methods: A total of 79 COPD patients and 71 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals were enrolled in this prospective cross-sectional study. The patients were divided into two subgroups (with mild-to-moderate COPD and severe COPD) using spirometric data suggested by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease guideline.

Background: Bell's palsy (BP) is the most common acute mononeuropathy of unilateral facial paralysis. Immune, infective and ischaemic mechanisms are potential contributors to the development of BP, but the precise cause remains unclear. Recently, oxidative stress has been proposed as a risk factor of various idiopathic diseases.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the treatment efficacy of vitrectomy combined with subretinal recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA) and factors affecting visual improvement in patients with submacular hemorrhage (SMH) due to neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
Materials And Methods: Medical records of 17 consecutive patients diagnosed with SMH secondary to nAMD were retrospectively reviewed. The initial surgical procedure involved a 23-gauge transconjunctival vitrectomy, subretinal r-tPA application through a self-sealing inferior retinotomy, and sulfur hexafluoride gas for tamponade in all patients.

Chronotype can be classified as morningness types, people who prefer morning hours for their physical and mental activities; eveningness types, people who prefer the afternoon or evening hours; and intermediate types, those who show characteristics of both morningness and eveningness types. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been linked with disturbances in chronotype, particularly increased eveningness. Despite the possibility of an association between chronotypes, sleep disturbances and ADHD symptoms, there is little evidence of this association considering the child population.

Purpose: To investigate the short-term effect of single intravitreal aflibercept injection on retrobulbar blood flow in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
Methods: Twenty eyes of 20 patients with nAMD scheduled for single intravitreal aflibercept (Eylea) injection and 20 fellow eyes (uninjected) were enrolled in this prospective interventional study. The hemodynamic parameters of the ophthalmic artery (OA), central retinal artery (CRA) and posterior ciliary artery (PCA) comprising peak systolic velocity (PSV), end-diastolic velocity (EDV), and resistive index (RI) were measured by using color Doppler ultrasonography (CDU) in both injected and uninjected fellow eyes at baseline and 1 week after the injection.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to healthy children and adolescents in terms of state and trait empathy and emotion expression recognition skills. The goal was also to determine whether there are changes in emotion recognition and empathy measures in children with ADHD after methylphenidate (MPH) treatment.
Methods: The research sample consisted of outpatient drug-naive children and adolescents between the age of 8 and 14 years (n = 65) with ADHD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th ed.

Objectives: Fosfomycin (FOF) is a bactericidal antimicrobial agent active against a range of Gram-negative bacteria, including multidrug-resistant (MDR) and metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae. However, data are scarce regarding use of the drug beyond urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Methods: In this study, susceptibility rates to FOF among 290 MDR Enterobacteriaceae isolates were analysed by gradient and disk diffusion tests and the results were compared with agar dilution according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).

Objective: In April 2012, the Turkish national education system was modified, and the compulsory school age of entry (first grade) was redefined as a minimum of 60 months and a maximum of 66 months (replacing the former minimum criterion of 72 months). In this study, we hypothesized that students starting school before 72 months (the previous age standard for the first grade) may experience (1) a greater number of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and (2) lower functioning in social, behavioral, and academic domains.
Method: We performed a cross-sectional community-based study in the first and second grades of all primary schools (4356 students) located in the Kadıköy county of Istanbul, Turkey.

Sphingomonas paucimobilis is an aerobic, oxidase-positive, yellow-pigmented, non-fermentative, Gram-negative opportunistic pathogen that rarely causes infections in humans. It is commonly found in nosocomial environments and, despite its low clinical virulence, it can be responsible for several different infections especially among patients with underlying disease. Here we describe a clinical case of a 46-year-old male paraplegic patient with a history of neurogenic bladder due to insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and renal failure who was admitted to the urology clinic of a university hospital in Kirsehir, Turkey, with the complaints of urinary tract infection (UTI) including fever, chills, dysuria, abdominal and back pain.
