Methods: Patients on immunosuppressive medication or their parent were eligible to complete a survey between July 2019 and January 2020.

Background: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has developed a rich theoretical system and practical experience in fighting to infectious diseases over the past thousands of years, and has played an important role in controlling the spread owing to its unique advantages. In particular, its significant contribution to the prevention and control of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is widely recognized. COVID-19 infection is mainly non-severe with a favorable overall outcome, but patients with comorbidities tend to have a poor prognosis.

In an endemic region for acute rheumatic fever, the suspicion of myocarditis origin had also to be directed into rheumatic etiology. We present a case of a 10-year-old patient with subacute fever and myocardial systolic dysfunction (ejection fraction: 25%). One week after treatment, recovery of systolic function was observed.

Infective endocarditis (IE) primarily affects the endocardium of the heart valves. One of the common neurological complications of IE is the embolization of endocardial vegetation, which can obstruct the cerebral arteries. We describe the case of a 47-year-old male patient who developed neurological symptoms as a complication of IE.

This review summarises advances in research from Aotearoa, New Zealand (NZ) that have potential to reduce the inequitable distribution of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD). ARF incidence and RHD prevalence are unacceptably inequitable for Māori and Pacifica. Recent qualitative research has demonstrated mismatches between the lived experience of those with ARF/RHD and health service experience they encounter.

The prevention and treatment of Rheumatic Heart disease is hinged on antibiotic administration in children with Group A (GAS) pharyngitis and Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF). The Upper Limit of Normal (ULN) for serum Anti-streptolysin O titre (ASOT) has been employed as proof of antecedent GAS pharyngitis to fulfil the Jones' criteria for diagnosis of ARF. Article Synopsis
  • Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare inflammatory condition that includes symptoms like daily fevers, joint pain, skin rashes, and spleen enlargement, often requiring tests to rule out blood cancers.
  • A case study of a 38-year-old man revealed symptoms such as fatigue, high fever, night sweats, and skin rashes, leading to extensive testing, including CT and PET/CT scans that showed enlarged lymph nodes and high metabolic activity in his spleen and bone marrow.
  • Ultimately, biopsies of the lymph node and bone marrow showed signs of hyperreactivity but no cancer, confirming AOSD as a diagnosis of exclusion, particularly when high ferritin levels and systemic symptoms are present

  • A 71-year-old man experienced fever and joint pain after a recent throat infection, showing signs of group A streptococcal (GAS) infection with high antistreptolysin O (ASO) levels.
  • The case raised questions about whether he had acute rheumatic fever (ARF) or post-streptococcal reactive arthritis (PSReA), as he displayed symptoms of both conditions.
  • The authors highlight the need for careful consideration of ARF in patients with recent streptococcal infections and joint pain to ensure timely treatment and avoid complications.
