Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is the most prevalent cause of acquired paralytic neuropathy in children, however, ataxia as the initial presenting sign in children is very rare. Antiganglioside antibodies are presumed to have an important role in the pathophysiology and some phenotypic correlations have been reported. Anti-GM2 antibody, unlike other antibodies, is far less detected in GBS.

Background: Although aortic valve replacement (AVR) when successfully performed boasts low mortality rates in selected patients, prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM) can be found in the majority of these individuals. Limited research is available supporting the benefit of two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) in patients with severe PPM. This study sought to assess myocardial strain using 2D-STE to determine the relationship between subclinical left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and aortic PPM in patients undergoing AVR with preserved LV ejection fraction.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 30 patients (16 women, 14 men) diagnosed with SMH secondary to neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Preoperative SMH thickness and area, ellipsoid zone integrity, and postoperative reduction in the amount of subfoveal blood on optical coherence tomography and fundus photographs were assessed.

As a result of major advances in deep learning algorithms and computer processing power, there have been important developments in the fields of medicine and robotics. Although fully autonomous surgery systems where human impact will be minimized are still a long way off, systems with partial autonomy have gradually entered clinical use. In this review, articles on autonomous surgery classified and summarized, with the aim of informing the reader about questions such as "What is autonomic surgery?" and in which areas studies are progressing.

Morcellation allows the removal of a large uterus and fibroids through small incisions with minimally invasive surgery. It helps to prevent the complications associated with large incisions in both hysterectomy and myomectomy operations. Currently, there is much debate regarding the use of power morcellation in laparoscopic hysterectomy and myomectomy, mainly due to the risk of peritoneal dissemination of undiagnosed uterine sarcomas.

Objective: To evaluate the results and recurrence rates of external and endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery in patients with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO) in Turkish Cohort.
Methods: Medical records were reviewed in all patients who underwent surgery for PANDO between January 2010 and September 2014 in a tertiary university hospital retrospectively. The patients were followed up on the first day, first month, third month and sixth month postoperatively.

Background: Post-transplant relapse has a dismal prognosis in children with acute leukemia undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Data on risk factors, treatment options, and outcomes are limited.
Procedure: In this retrospective multicenter study in which a questionnaire was sent to all pediatric transplant centers reporting relapse after allo-HSCT for a cohort of 938 children with acute leukemia, we analyzed 255 children with relapse of acute leukemia after their first allo-HSCT.

Background: Although the relationship between umbilical cord clamping time and various parameters such as hemoglobin (Hb) levels, iron deficiency, and risk of neonatal jaundice has previously been studied, to the best of our knowleadge there have been no studies investigating the relationship between cord clamping time and the risk of significant hyperbilirubinemia. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the time of umbilical cord clamping and transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) measurements made on various postnatal hours, Hb and serum total bilirubin (STB) levels measured on postnatal 4th day, and the risk of development of significant hyperbilirubinemia requiring phototherapy treatment.
Methods: Eligible newborns were divided into two groups on the basis of the time of cord clamping: those clamped late (60 seconds or more; Group I) and those clamped early (less than 60 seconds; Group II).

Although asexual reproduction has been attributed to Leishmania species, genetic exchange has recently been demonstrated, which helped emerging of hybrid isolates. Situated on the crossroads between three continents, Leishmania hybrids may be present in Turkey. In Turkey, visceral leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania infantum is less common, while cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) caused by Leishmania tropica and L.

Objective: This study aimed to find out whether side-specific pelvic lymphadenectomy can be omitted without compromising diagnostic efficacy according to "reflex frozen section" analysis of the uterus in case of sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping failure.
Methods: Patients who underwent surgery for endometrial cancer with an SLN algorithm were stratified as low-risk or high-risk according to the uterine features on the final pathology reports. Two models for low-risk patients were defined to omit side-specific pelvic lymphadenectomy: strategy A included patients with endometrioid histology, grade 1-2, and <50% myometrial invasion irrespective of the tumor diameter; strategy B included all factors of strategy A with the addition of tumor diameter ≤2 cm.
