Background: The ovarian response to gonadotropin stimulation varies widely among women, and could impact the probability of live birth as well as treatment risks. Many studies have evaluated the impact of different gonadotropin starting doses, mainly based on predictive variables like ovarian reserve tests (ORT) including anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), antral follicle count (AFC), and basal follicle-stimulating hormone (bFSH). A Cochrane systematic review revealed that individualizing the gonadotropin starting dose does not affect efficacy in terms of ongoing pregnancy/live birth rates, but may reduce treatment risks such as the development of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated two different durations of continuous phototherapy (24 hours vs. 18 hours) for jaundiced newborns without hyperbilirubinemia neurotoxicity risks to find an effective treatment protocol without constant bilirubin monitoring.
  • Results showed that while the 24-hour treatment led to a greater overall decline in total serum bilirubin (TSB) levels, the 18-hour treatment demonstrated a faster rate of TSB reduction per hour.
  • The findings suggest that an 18-hour phototherapy course may be more effective for these newborns, as it reaches optimal outcomes by the 18th hour without need for continuous TSB measurement.

Objectives: The aim of our study was to evaluate the cooccurrence of capsular liver lesions along with peritoneal carcinomatosis and hematogenous metastases in other regions of the body in ovarian cancer patients on follow-up F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) studies.

Methods: Consecutive F-FDG PET/CT studies of 54 women with ovarian cancer between August 2012 and January 2020 and a total of 192 scans were analysed retrospectively. All patients had at least one hepatic and/or capsular lesion with high F-FDG uptake and at least two PET/CT examinations.

Objective: Chevron osteotomy offers near-excellent clinical results and adequate stability at lower shift percentages, among the techniques used to correct hallux valgus deformity. This cadaveric study aimed to compare the Chevron osteotomy with the reverse offset-L osteotomy, which may provide a greater surface area and a more stable geometry to withstand higher cantilever forces at higher shift percentages.

Methods: Metatarsal bones obtained from 20 human cadavers with similar bone quality were divided into two groups: Chevron osteotomy was applied to the 1st group and reverse offset-L osteotomy was applied to the 2nd group.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of injecting satellite myoblasts (SM) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into rats with chronic rotator cuff (RC) tears to improve muscle recovery and reduce fat degeneration.
  • After standardized surgery and treatment, the rats were monitored for 14 weeks to assess the recovery of muscle mass and reduction of adipose tissue in those treated with SM and MSC compared to a control group.
  • Results showed that the combination of surgical repair with SM and MSC injections significantly enhanced muscle mass and tendon healing while reducing fat tissue, offering a potential new approach for treating chronic RC injuries.

Viral hepatitis are infections that can cause liver damage, become chronic, lead to cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma and ultimately result in death due to their ability to spread in the community through blood and infected body fluids. The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV), and hepatitis D (HDV) transmitted through blood among individuals living in Trabzon province and to examine the factors potentially associated with seroprevalence. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Trabzon province, located in the northeast of Türkiye, including a total of 10 districts, including the central district.

  • A study evaluates patients with antibodies against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (anti-MOG-IgG), assessing their clinical, radiological, and demographic characteristics in relation to conditions like optic neuritis and myelitis.
  • Among the 104 participants, the majority were women, and the most common diagnoses included NMOSD, isolated optic neuritis, and ADEM, with a notable percentage showing symptoms resembling MS.
  • Findings indicate that older patients (>40 years) experienced more severe disability and poorer responses to treatment, highlighting the significance of anti-MOG-IgG in diagnosing NMOSD in patients without anti-NMO antibodies.

Article Synopsis
  • ALK mutations occur in about 3-5% of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, with pleural involvement or effusion (Ple-I/E) commonly seen in those with ALK positivity.
  • This multicenter study analyzed 362 ALK-positive NSCLC patients, finding that 15.7% had Ple-I/E at diagnosis, with no significant link to gender or other metastases characteristics.
  • Patients with Ple-I/E exhibited significantly better median progression-free survival (18.7 months) and overall survival (44.6 months) compared to those without Ple-I/E, pointing to a potentially more favorable prognosis.
