Introduction: Enterotoxic (ETEC) is the main pathogen that causes diarrhea, especially in young children. This disease can lead to substantial morbidity and mortality and is a major global health concern. Managing ETEC infections is challenging owing to the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance.

Discussion on the optimization of personalized medication using information systems based on pharmacogenomics: an example using colorectal cancer.

Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is a powerful tool for clinical optimization of drug efficacy and safety. However, due to many factors affecting drugs in the real world, PGx still accounts for a small proportion of actual clinical application scenarios. Therefore, based on the information software, pharmacists use their professional advantages to integrate PGx into all aspects of pharmaceutical care, which is conducive to promoting the development of personalized medicine.

Case report: The case of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia treated with chemotherapy followed by anti-CD7 CAR-T cells using retroviral vector.

CD7-targeted chimeric antigen receptor-T (CAR-T) cell therapy has shown great promise in the treatment of relapsed/refractory T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). In this study, we reported a case of a 34-year-old male patient with T-ALL who finally developed multi-line drug resistance and refractoriness after multiple lines of high-intensity chemotherapy. After physician evaluation, this patient received allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).

Sodium valproate enhances efficacy of NKG2D CAR-T cells against glioblastoma.

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies have shown promise in glioblastoma clinical studies, but responses remain inconsistent due to heterogeneous tumor antigen expression and immune evasion post-treatment. NKG2D CAR-T cells have demonstrated a favorable safety profile in patients with hematologic tumors, and showed robust antitumor efficacy in various xenograft models, including glioblastoma. However, malignant glioma cells evade immunological surveillance by reducing NKG2D ligands expression or cleavage.

The non-polio Enteroviruses (NPEVs), consist of enteroviruses, coxsackieviruses, echoviruses, and rhinoviruses, are causative agents for a wide variety of diseases, ranging from common cold to encephalitis and acute flaccid paralysis (AFP). In recent years, several NPEVs have become serious public health threats, include EV-A71, which has caused epidemics of hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HMFD) in Southeast Asia, and EV-D68, which caused outbreaks of severe respiratory disease in children worldwide. Infections with these viruses are associated with neurological diseases like aseptic meningitis and AFP.

Antibacterial activity of 1 % Roselle flower nano-emulsion extract (Hibiscus sabdariffa) against peri-implantitis-related bacteria on orthodontic mini-implants: An in vitro study.

Objective: The orthodontic mini-implant (OMI) failure often occurs due to the accumulation of peri-implantitis bacteria surrounding it, which results in a stable, resistant form of absolute skeletal anchorage during orthodontic treatment. Administering doxycycline may be the solution, but long-term side effects result in antibiotic resistance. Roselle flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa) possess beneficial active phytochemical substances, which may have potential as an OMI peri-implantitis alternative therapy.

Characterization and application of fluorescent hydrogel films with superior mechanical properties in detecting iron(Ⅲ) ions and ferroptosis in oral cancer.

A one-step hydrothermal method was applied to prepare carbon dots (CDs) with superior fluorescence properties using chitosan as a carbon source. The as-prepared carbon dots were then grafted onto a sodium alginate-gelatin hydrogel film to form a fluorescent hydrogel film (FHGF), emitting at 450 nm under excitation of 350 nm light. In comparison to the CDs, the fluorescence intensity of this film was maintained over 90.

Background: With an aging global population, establishing integrated systems for long-term care is challenging in several countries. Adequate and quality service for older adults in nursing homes can improve their quality of life. Objective: This network meta-analysis was to compare the efficacy of different drugs on cardiac function, renal function, and clinical outcomes in patients with acute heart failure (AHF) accompanied by renal dysfunction.

Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were searched to screen all clinical trials of AHF between January 1st 2001 and March 31th 2024. The primary outcome measures were N-terminal pro-B type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), glomerular filtration rate (GFR), blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, all-cause mortality within 60 days, and cardiovascular mortality.

Efficacy and safety of anlotinib as maintenance treatment in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer: a single-armed single center retrospective study.

Introduction: Patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) have a poor Q6 prognosis and there is no standard protocol for maintenance treatment. Anlotinib as a third-line or beyond therapy for ES-SCLC was proved to be effective.

Methods: We retrospectively screened of patients with ES-SCLC who started receiving anlotinib as first-line or second-line therapy at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from November 2018 to December 2022.

Introduction: The link between overload brain iron and transcriptional/cellular signatures in Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains inconclusive.

Methods: Iron deposition in 41 cortical and subcortical regions of 30 AD patients and 26 healthy controls (HCs) was measured using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM). The expression of 15,633 genes was estimated in the same regions using transcriptomic data from the Allen Human Brain Atlas (AHBA).

Randomized Controlled Trial of the Effects of High-Dose Ondansetron on Clinical Symptoms and Brain Connectivity in Obsessive-Compulsive and Tic Disorders.

Objective: Sensory phenomena (SP) are aversive sensations driving repetitive behaviors in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and Tourette's disorder that are not well addressed by standard treatments. SP are related to the functioning of an interoceptive-sensorimotor circuit that may be modulated by the 5-HT receptor antagonist ondansetron. The present study employed an experimental medicine approach to test the effects of 4 weeks of high-dose ondansetron compared to placebo on SP severity and brain connectivity in a cohort of individuals with OCD and/or Tourette's disorder.

Methods: Sixteen patients with mono-segmental disc degeneration (L4-L5 or L5-S1) who underwent posterior lumbar spine fixation with intervertebral distraction of 2 consecutive vertebrae using monoaxial transpedicular screws and lyophilized allograft to achieve segmental fusion, and who had a follow-up period of at least 2 years, were included in this study. The first lumbar disc was used as the control group.

Esophageal cancer (EC) is one of the most common highly malignant tumors of the digestive system, with a poor prognosis under current treatment regimens. Nucleolin (NCL) is overexpressed in many tumors, and drugs specifically targeting NCL may offer a promising strategy for treating esophageal cancer. Here, we designed and prepared a novel aptamer-conjugated drug targeting NCL by AS1411 aptamer-human serum albumin (HSA)-the apoprotein of lidamycin (LDP)-active enediyne chromophore (AE), in order to achieve targeted treatment of esophageal cancer.
