A clinical case of surgical treatment of a patient with autosomal dominant type of polycystic kidney disease, stage 5 of chronic kidney disease and secondary arterial hypertension is presented in the article. The technique of single-stage bilateral laparoscopic nephrectomy, patented by the authors, is described. The practicability and safety of a simultaneous bilateral procedures was demonstrated, as well as the advantage of laparoscopic access for this type of surgical interventions.

The objective of this study was phenotypic and genotypic characterization of antibacterial-resistant clinical strains isolated in Moscow Transplantology Intensive Care Unit in 2017-2019. Major strains among ( = 63) isolated from 30 patients were recognized as extensive drug-resistant ( = 55) pathogens, and remaining strains were recognized as multidrug-resistant ( = 8) pathogens. The beta-lactamase genes ( = 63), ( = 61), ( = 54), ( = 52), and ( = 2), as well as class 1 integrons ( = 19) carried gene cassette arrays A4 ( = 2), A1C ( = 6), BA1 ( = 9), A15A1 ( = 3), and A12 ( = 1) were identified in the strains.

Continuous-flow ventricular-assist devices are widely used to support patients with advanced heart failure, because continuous-flow ventricular-assist devices are more durable, have smaller sizes and have better survival rates for patients compared to the pulsatile-flow ventricular-assist devices. Nevertheless, continuous-flow ventricular-assist devices often cause complications such as gastrointestinal bleeding, haemorrhagic stroke, and aortic insufficiency and have a negative impact on the microcirculation for both long-time implantable and short-time extracorporeal systems. The aim of this study is the evaluation of the pulsatile-flow generation method in continuous-flow ventricular-assist device without pump speed changes.

The burden of premature death and health loss from ESRD is well described. Less is known regarding the burden of cardiovascular disease attributable to reduced GFR. We estimated the prevalence of reduced GFR categories 3, 4, and 5 (not on RRT) for 188 countries at six time points from 1990 to 2013.

Introduction: There is little comparable information about hemodialysis (HD) practices in low- and middle income countries, including Russia. Evaluation of HD in Russia and its international comparisons could highlight factors providing opportunities for improvement.
Methods: We examined treatment patterns for 481 prevalent HD patients in 20 Russian facilities, and compared them to contemporary data for 8512 patients from 311 facilities in seven European countries, Japan, and North America.

We proposed a novel method of generation of bioresorbable polymeric scaffolds with specified architectonics for tissue engineering using extrusion three-dimensional (3D) printing with solutions of polylactoglycolide in tetraglycol with their subsequent solidifying in aqueous medium. On the basis of 3D computer models, we obtained the matrix structures with interconnected system of pores ranging in size from 0.5 to 500 µm.

Background: Chronic kidney disease is an important cause of global mortality and morbidity. Data for epidemiological features of chronic kidney disease and its risk factors are limited for low-income and middle-income countries. The International Society of Nephrology's Kidney Disease Data Center (ISN-KDDC) aimed to assess the prevalence and awareness of chronic kidney disease and its risk factors, and to investigate the risk of cardiovascular disease, in countries of low and middle income.

Rapidly rising global rates of chronic diseases portend a consequent rise in ESRD. Despite this, kidney disease is not included in the list of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) targeted by the United Nations for 25% reduction by year 2025. In an effort to accurately report the trajectory and pattern of global growth of maintenance dialysis, we present the change in prevalence and incidence from 1990 to 2010.

The study results of in vitro formation of tissue-engineered cartilage construct on the basis of cell-engineered construct composed of biopolymer hydrogel matrix and human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (hADSCs) are presented. It was revealed that hADSCs in biopolymer hydrogel matrix Sphero®GEL under chondrogenic conditions generate three-dimensional structures and produce cartilaginous extracellular matrix components: collagen type II and glycosaminoglycans.

In contrast to expectations that unsaturated fatty acids contribute to oxidative stress by providing a source of lipid peroxides, we demonstrated the protective effect of double bonds in lipids on oxidative damage to membrane proteins. Photodynamic inactivation of gramicidin channels was decreased in unsaturated lipid compared to saturated lipid bilayers. By estimating photosensitizer (boronated chlorine e6 amide) binding to the membrane with the current relaxation technique, the decrease in gramicidin photoinactivation was attributed to singlet oxygen scavenging by double bonds in lipids rather than to the reduction in photosensitizer binding.

The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries and Risk Factors Study 2010 (GBD 2010) is an initiative that involved 486 scientists from 302 institutions in 50 countries, under the leadership of a consortium formed by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation of the University of Washington, World Health Organization, the University of Queensland School of Population Health, the Harvard School of Public Health, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the University of Tokyo and Imperial College London. The study has provided a state of the art understanding of the burden of 67 risk factors and their clusters, 291 diseases and injuries on global, regional and national levels in period from 1990 to 2010 for 187 countries. GBD 2010 estimates covered both mortality (expressed in number of deaths, years of life lost (YLL) due to premature mortality) and morbidity (mainly expressed as years lived with disability (YLD)), while the incidence and prevalence were not reported for majority of causes so far, although they were accounted and used for YLD calculations.
