CAD/CAM-manufactured implants are increasingly becoming the standard in current therapy. The question of whether the manufacturing-related rougher surface of selective laser fusion plates compared to milled, smoother reconstruction plates leads to increased postoperative complications such as infections, plate exposure, and fistulas has not yet been determined. A retrospective analysis of 98 patients who underwent surgical treatment with either a selective laser fusion plate or a milled reconstruction plate at our hospital was performed.

MRONJ of the Mandible-From Decortication to a Complex Jaw Reconstruction Using a CAD/CAM-Guided Bilateral Scapula Flap.

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) has been an integral part of the maxillofacial patient population for some time. The therapeutic concept ranges from conservative approaches over less extended decortications to major jaw resections, which can result in a considerable loss of quality of life. Based on three case reports, this paper presents the long-term history of patients with MRONJ of the mandible, whose disease ultimately resulted in partial or total mandibular resection and subsequent multisegmental reconstruction using a microvascular anastomosed bone flap.

First-Hand Experience and Result with New Robot-Assisted Laser LeFort-I Osteotomy in Orthognathic Surgery: A Case Report.

Background: We report the world's first developer-independent experience with robot-assisted laser Le Fort I osteotomy (LLFO) and drill-hole marking in orthognathic surgery. To overcome the geometric limitations of conventional rotating and piezosurgical instruments for performing osteotomies, we used the stand-alone robot-assisted laser system developed by Advanced Osteotomy Tools. The aim here was to evaluate the precision of this novel procedure in comparison to the standard procedure used in our clinic using a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) cutting guide and patient-specific implant.

Ultrastructural changes in resistance arterioles of normotensive and hypertensive premenopausal women with uterine fibroids.

The association between uterine smooth muscle fibroids and systemic arterial hypertension is poorly understood. Therefore, we explored possible concomitant myocyte pathology of systemic resistance-sized arterioles (200 to 400 μm), isolated from omental samples donated by 19 women (mean age 42 y; SE 1) undergoing fibroid surgery. Vessels of 17 women (8 hypertensives) were available for transmission electron microscopy.

This work provides consensus guidance regarding clinical diagnosis and early medical management of endometriosis within Asia. Clinicians with expertise in endometriosis critically evaluated available evidence on clinical diagnosis and early medical management and their applicability to current clinical practices. Clinical diagnosis should focus on symptom recognition, which can be presumed to be endometriosis without laparoscopic confirmation.

Purpose: This retrospective cross-sectional cohort study investigated the influence of posture on lordosis (LL), length of the spinal canal (LSC), anteroposterior diameter (APD L1-L5), dural cross-sectional area (DCSA) of the lumbar spinal canal, and the prevalence of redundant nerve roots (RNR) using positional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (0.6 T).

Methods: Sixty-eight patients with single-level degenerative central lumbar spinal stenosis (cLSS) presenting with RNR in the standing position (STA) were also investigated in supine (SUP) or neutral seated (SIT) and flexed seated (FLEX) positions.

Recently, we demonstrated that there was no seasonal variation in renal colic and urine chemistry for calcium oxalate stone formers in Germany.

Infection of pancreatic necrosis is a dreaded complication requiring an intervention. Nevertheless, the optimal timing of the first intervention is unclear, and consensus data are sparse. This retrospective two-center study evaluated direct endoscopic necrosectomy using lumen apposing metal stents in case of proven or suspected infected pancreatic necrosis in an early stage of the disease.

Clinical Relevance of [F]Florbetaben and [F]FDG PET/CT Imaging on the Management of Patients with Dementia.

PET of β-Amyloid plaques (Aβ) using Fflorbetaben (FFBB) and Ffluorodeoxyglucose (FFDG) increasingly aid clinicians in early diagnosis of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), frontotemporal disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and vascular dementia. The aim of this retrospective analysis was to evaluate clinical relevance of FFBB, FFDG PET and complimentary CSF measurements in patients with suspected dementia. In this study, 40 patients with clinically suspected or history of dementia underwent (1) measurement of Aβ peptides, total tau, and p-tau protein levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) compared with healthy controls (HC); (2) clinical and neuropsychological assessment, which included Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease neuropsychological assessment battery (CERAD-NAB); (3) FFBB and FFDG PET imaging within an average of 3 weeks.
