Although SeO ions have been loaded onto calcium phosphate to treat a wide range of cancers, the quest to promote bone tissue regeneration is still ongoing. Curcumin (cur), an herbal extraction, can selectively inhibit tumor cells and promote osteogenesis. In this study, SeO ions were co-precipitated in biomimetic calcium phosphate (Se@BioCaP), and modified curcumin prodrug (mcur) was adsorbed on diverse Se@BioCaP surfaces (mcur-Se@BioCaP-Ads).

Ontology and Bruxism: Do We Have Enough Information?

J Oral Rehabil

January 2025

Department of Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction, Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The idea of classifying and defining bruxism according to ontological principles may be interesting, but currently we just do not have enough information to label in a black or white manner the many facets of bruxism. In an era in which general knowledge on bruxism by the dental communities is surely in need of improvement, efforts to clarify the road map tracked by the current panelists who drafted the definition should be appraised carefully. The recent introduction of a standardized multidimensional evaluation system (i.

Aim: This first randomized controlled trial in humans aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of low-dosage Escherichia coli-derived recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (ErhBMP-2)-incorporated biomimetic calcium phosphate coating-functionalized β-TCP (ErhBMP-2/BioCaP/β-TCP) as a novel bone substitute using the tooth-extraction-socket-healing model.

Materials And Methods: Forty patients requiring dental implants after single-root tooth extraction were enrolled in this study and randomly assigned into three groups: ErhBMP-2/BioCaP/β-TCP (N = 15), β-TCP (N = 15) and natural healing (N = 10). New bone volume density from histomorphometric analyses was evaluated 6 weeks post-operatively as the primary outcome, and other histomorphometric analyses, alveolar bone and soft-tissue changes were the secondary outcomes.

Purpose: Although bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) possesses potent osteoinductivity, there have been some concerns on the safety of BMP-2 and BMP-2-incorporated bone substitutes used for bone formation. On the other hand, BMP-2-loaded calcium phosphate cement (BMP-2@CPC) has been developed and used for bone regeneration in oral implantology. Therefore, this study aims to investigate this product's biocompatibility and clinical safety after being used in maxillofacial surgery.
