Hyaluronic acid (HA) has received considerable attention in the reconstruction of lost periodontal tissues. HA has been proposed to play a role in cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, and cell-matrix as well as cell-cell interactions. Although various studies have been conducted, further research is needed to expand our knowledge based on HA such as its effects on cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation.

Orexin-A (OXA), a neuropeptide produced in the hypothalamus, is recognized for its role in modulating orofacial nociception and regulating feeding behaviors, as well as its impact on psychophysiological responses. This study investigated the role of orexin-1 receptors (OX1R) in modulating nociceptive behaviors induced by noxious stimulation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the associated changes in mood and feeding behaviors in rats with complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Bilateral cannulation of the lateral ventricles was performed in rats.

Psychotherapeutic interventions aimed at treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in adolescents and young adults are hampered by high dropout rates. Looking at the results from adult treatments, short, intensive, outpatient treatment programmes may offer a promising alternative, but it has yet to be tested in this young population. To assess the results of a six-day intensive outpatient trauma-focused treatment programme for young individuals (12-25 years) with PTSD.

An increasing number of studies have been investigating the co-occurrence of posttraumatic symptoms and dissociation in trauma-exposed samples. As traumatized refugees are particularly susceptible to developing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between PTSD and dissociation in a traumatized refugee sample. Cross-sectional data from a clinical refugee sample ( = 526) were collected.

In orofacial pain patients, pain-related temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and neuropathic pain (NP) can both be present. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to examine whether in patients with orofacial pain, associations can be found between (subdiagnoses of) pain-related TMD and NP. Participants were asked to fill in the questionnaires of the Diagnostic Criteria for TMD (DC/TMD) and a screening questionnaire for NP, the Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4).

The simultaneous occurrence of primary headaches and temporomandibular disorders can pose a challenge in determining the best clinical management of patients. Therefore, we aimed to summarize evidence regarding the risk and prevalence of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) in migraine and tension-type headaches (TTH) patients. Cross-sectional studies published in English comparing the presence of TMDs in adults with TTH or migraine to subjects without headaches were included, International Classification of Orofacial Pain, Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders or Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders, and large epidemiological studies (sensitive diagnostic criteria (SDC)).

To investigate the effect of vitamin C supplementation with or without flavonoids on periodontal conditions, and microbial and systemic variables before and after non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT). A case series derived from a randomized controlled trial was conducted to explore the effects of daily vitamin C supplementation, with or without flavonoids, on periodontal conditions. The study population was recruited from patients with periodontitis who had been referred to the Department of Periodontology at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA).

: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are major global health concerns, and they often go undetected. Periodontitis shares risk factors and is associated with both conditions. Assessing MetS risk factors among dental patients, especially those with periodontitis, may contribute to early detection and prompt treatment.

: The barrier properties of the human small intestine play a crucial role in regulating digestion, nutrient absorption and drug metabolism. Current in vitro organotypic models consist only of an epithelium, which does not take into account the possible role of stromal cells such as fibroblasts or the extracellular matrix (ECM) which could contribute to epithelial barrier properties. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether these stromal cells or ECM were beneficial or detrimental to barrier function when incorporated into an organotypic human small intestine model.

Objectives: This in vitro study aimed to investigate the toothbrushing wear on both enamel and dentin surfaces of reference and commercially available dentifrices.
Methods: Bovine enamel and dentin blocks were initially polished and embedded within a resin composite in square shapes (10×8×6 mm3). Employing toothbrushes equipped with nylon bristles, a toothbrushing machine was utilized, subjecting dentin specimens (n = 36) to 500 brush cycles and enamel samples to 5000 brush cycles (n = 36).

Since its introduction in 2001, multiple platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) centrifugation protocols have emerged, but the variations in growth factor release that result from these protocols remain unclear. This review aimed to evaluate growth factor release across three PRF protocols: leukocyte-PRF (L-PRF), advanced-PRF (A-PRF/+), and injectable-PRF (i-PRF). A comprehensive search was conducted using the MEDLINE and Embase databases, identifying 14 studies that met the inclusion criteria.

Background: This study was conducted to assess the effects of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on dental healthcare workers (DHCWs) during the pandemic. Due to frequent exposure to aerosol-generating procedures, DHCWs are at an increased risk of a SARS-CoV-2 infection, increasing their mortality risk. Therefore, this retrospective study aimed to ascertain the mortality of DHCWs attributable to SARS-CoV-2 infection from databases in the public domain during the pandemic.

The repair of large cartilage defects remains highly challenging in the fields of orthopedics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. A chondroinductive agent is promising to activate endogenous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) so as to facilitate cartilage regeneration. In this study, we analyze the crystallographic data of the critical binding domain of transforming growth factor β3 (TGF-β3) with its type II receptor and successfully develop a novel chondroinductive peptide - TGF-β3-derived peptide No.

Mini dental implants (MDIs) are alternatives to support an overdenture when a standard diameter implant cannot be placed due to lack of bone volume. They reduce the need for invasive bone grafting and lower the barrier for treatment. This prospective study reports on implant and patient-centered outcomes of flaplessly placed, early loaded MDIs supporting horseshoe-shaped maxillary overdentures after 7 years of function.
