Introduction: Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disorder characterised by non-caseating granulomas. Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) normally causes conduction abnormalities, ventricular arrhythmias, and heart failure. Little is known about the characteristics and impact of sarcoidosis in patients admitted with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Homologous recombination deficiency should be tested for in patients with advanced stage high-grade serous ovarian cancer aged 70 years and over.

Gynecol Oncol

August 2024

School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health, UNSW Sydney, NSW, Australia; Department of Medical Oncology, The Prince of Wales and Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick, NSW, Australia. Electronic address:

Objective: Due to limited data on homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) in older patients (≥ 70 years) with advanced stage high grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC), we aimed to determine the rates of HRD at diagnosis in this age group.

Methods: From the Phase 3 trial VELIA the frequency of HRD and BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants (PVs) was compared between younger (< 70 years) and older participants. HRD and somatic(s) BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants (PVs) were determined at diagnosis using Myriad myChoice® CDx and germline(g) BRCA1/2 PVs using Myriad BRACAnalysis CDx®.

Aim: The Newborn Individualised Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) is an intervention and education programme that uses developmental observation for multidisciplinary healthcare professionals (HCP) caring for high-risk infants and families. Infants prosper with the ongoing co-regulation process of infant and family that is influenced by the physical and social environment.

Methods: The Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) Guidelines were applied to the NIDCAP intervention.

Computational Chemistry, Nxera Pharma, Steinmetz Building, Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge, CB21 6DG, UK.

Generative models are undergoing rapid research and application to de novo drug design. To facilitate their application and evaluation, we present MolScore. MolScore already contains many drug-design-relevant scoring functions commonly used in benchmarks such as, molecular similarity, molecular docking, predictive models, synthesizability, and more.

Researchers have used eye-tracking measures to explore the relationship between face encoding and recognition, including the impact of ethnicity on this relationship. Previous studies offer a variety of conflicting conclusions. This confusion may stem from misestimation of the relationship between encoding and recognition.

Introduction: While the exact pathogenesis of peripartum cardiomyopathy, a potentially life-threatening condition, is still unknown, its incidence is rising globally. We sought to understand the differences in outcomes and complications based on age.

Methods: Records from the 2016-2020 National Inpatient Sample were used for our study.

Background And Objectives: Transfusion-related acute lung injury is an infrequent adverse reaction observed in patients receiving blood products. The lung injury can range in severity and can be associated with both mortality and mortality. All blood products except albumin have been linked to cases of transfusion-related acute lung injury.

Femoral hernias carry an increased risk of incarceration. De Garengeot hernia, a rare subset, occurs when the appendix herniates through the femoral canal. Due to its rarity, various surgical approaches have been explored, including isolated groin incisions, combined approaches, and exclusive laparoscopic interventions.

The impact of prepregnancy body mass index on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes.

J Osteopath Med

October 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2780 Geisinger Health System , Danville, PA, USA.

Context: The obesity epidemic in the United States is continuing to worsen. Obesity is a known risk factor for pregnancy morbidity. However, many studies use the patient's body mass index (BMI) at the time of delivery, do not stratify by class of obesity, or utilize billing codes as the basis of their study, which are noted to be inaccurate.

Kounis syndrome, an allergic hypersensitivity coronary disorder, is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition triggered by various allergens, including medications. We present the case of a 41-year-old male with no prior cardiac history, who developed Kounis syndrome following vancomycin administration for suspected cellulitis. The patient initially presented with rash, fever, and malaise, which progressed to chest discomfort associated with diaphoresis and elevated troponin levels.

Right ventricular thrombus is a rare finding found in 4% of people diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. Although right ventricular thrombi are usually associated with atrial fibrillation, deep venous vein thrombi, or intracardiac procedures, isolated right ventricular thrombi are rare. Right ventricular thrombus has also been reported in patients with right ventricular infarction, as hypokinesis of the right ventricle causes blood stasis and promotes thrombosis as per Virchow's triad.

Psychological and Social Sciences Program, Pennsylvania State University, Abington College, Abington, Pennsylvania, USA.

Objective: Weight bias, or negative attitudes about larger bodies, is a prevalent issue associated with problems in psychological and physical health, as well as discriminatory behaviors and weight stigma. Literature is mixed regarding the efficacy of weight bias reduction efforts. This study sought to combine three elements that yielded promising results from previous studies (i.

Article Synopsis
  • The main protease (M) of SARS-CoV-2 is crucial for the virus's functionality and is considered a potential target for drug development, as it is only active in its reduced form.
  • When oxidized, M's activity halts but can be restored, indicating an evolutionary adaptation to oxidative environments, although the protective mechanisms haven't been fully elucidated.
  • Researchers determined the crystal structure of oxidized M, revealing a disulfide bond that affects its dimer stability and crystallization, providing insights into the protein's response to oxidative stress and its structural study conditions.*

Subcutaneous (SC) drug delivery can be a safe, effective alternative to the traditional intravenous route of administration, potentially offering notable advantages for both patients and healthcare providers. The SC Drug Development & Delivery Consortium convened in 2018 to raise awareness of industry challenges to advance the development of patient-centric SC drug delivery strategies. The SC Consortium identified better understanding of patient preferences and perspectives as necessary to optimize SC product design attributes and help guide design decisions during SC product development.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) constitutes a major global health burden and is the third leading cause of death worldwide. A high proportion of patients with COPD have cardiovascular disease, but there is also evidence that COPD is a risk factor for adverse outcomes in cardiovascular disease. Patients with COPD frequently die of respiratory and cardiovascular causes, yet the identification and management of cardiopulmonary risk remain suboptimal owing to limited awareness and clinical intervention.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) disproportionately affects women, presenting challenges during pregnancy. Historically, patients with PH are advised to avoid pregnancy; however, recent reports have indicated that the incidence of adverse events in pregnant patients with PH may be lower than previously reported. We conducted a retrospective cohort study in pregnant patients with PH using the National Readmission Database from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2020.

Powder bed fusion-laser beam (PBF-LB), a prevalent and rapidly advancing additive manufacturing (AM) technology nowadays, serves the industry by producing thin, complex, and lightweight components for various sectors, including healthcare, automotive, defence, and aerospace. However, this technology encounters challenges related to the construction of critical parts and the high overall process costs. Equally significant is the role of support structures in metal laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M).
