The Relationship between Uric Acid/Albumin Ratio and Carotid Intima-Media Thickness in Patients with Hypertension.

Background: Hypertension causes subendothelial inflammation and dysfunction in resulting atherosclerosis. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is a useful marker of endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis. The uric acid to albumin ratio (UAR) has emerged as a novel marker for predicting cardiovascular events.

Choroidal thickness measurements of subjects with pseudoexfoliative syndrome and pseudoexfoliative glaucoma: A contralateral eye study.

Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate the peripapillary choroidal thickness (PPCT) and macular choroidal thickness (MCT) in pseudoexfoliation (PEX) syndrome and compare the data of the contralateral eyes according to the presence of biomicroscopic eye involvement and glaucoma.

Method: In this cross-sectional case-control study, PPCT and MCT measurements were analyzed in 162 eyes of 81 subjects with PEX syndrome, diagnosed biomicroscopically with the detection of PEX material. The sample included 63 eyes with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PG), 49 eyes with visible PEX material alone without glaucoma (PM), 50 fellow eyes without biomicroscopically visible PEX material (F), and 48 eyes of 24 healthy individuals (controls) without any sign of PEX in the detailed ophthalmologic examination.

Methods: Between November 2010 and December 2020, we retrospectively reviewed patients with CPC undergoing tunica albuginea plication surgery.

The Effect of Platelet and Mean Platelet Volume Levels on Standard-dose Methylprednisolone Treatment Response in Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia.

Objective: Standard-dose methyl-prednisolone (methyl-Pd) is generally preferred as the first-line treatment in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) unless there is an urgent indication to increase the platelet value. A significant proportion of patients (around 40%) does not benefit from this treatment. This study investigated whether pretreatment platelet level and other hemogram indices in patients with ITP patients can be used to predict early response to standard-dose methyl-Pd treatment.

Microvascular Decompression for Hemifacial Spasm without the Use of Neuromonitoring and Fix Retraction: A Single-Center Experience.

Aim: To evaluate outcome of patients with hemifacial spasm surgically treated by microvascular decompression without the use of neuromonitoring and fix retraction.

Material And Methods: Of the 78 patients with hemifacial spasm operated by the senior author of this study between 2016 and 2020, 60 patients who were followed up were included and retrospectively investigated. The female:male ratio was 32:28, and the mean age was 42.

Choroidal structural alterations and choroidal vascularity index in bipolar disorder patients.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare bipolar disorder (BD) patients with age- and sex-matched healthy individuals in order to assess the choroidal structural alterations, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, and retinal changes in BD patients using encanhed depth imaging optic coherence tomography (EDI-OCT).

Method: For this research, 39 eyes of BD patients and 36 eyes of age-matched healthy volunteers were used. Five locations were used to assess the choroidal thickness (CT): subfoveal, 500 µm nasal and 1500 µm nasal to the fovea, 500 µm temporal and 1500 µm temporal to the fovea.

Introduction: There is evidence to suggest that dyspnea and impaired exercise capacity are associated with respiratory muscle dysfunction in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients. We aimed to evaluate the functions of the diaphragm with ultrasonography (US) and to determine the correlation of the data obtained with the pulmonary function parameters of the patients, exercise capacity, and the extent of fibrosis radiologically.

Materials And Methods: Diaphragmatic mobility, thickness, and thickening fraction (TF) were measured by ultrasonography in IPF patients and the control group.

Long-Term Clinical Results of Trabectome Surgery in Turkish Patients with Primary Open Angle Glaucoma and Pseudoexfoliative Glaucoma.

Objectives: The objectives of the study were to analyze the long-term results of trabectome surgery in Turkish patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PEXG) and to characterize the risk factors for failure.

Methods: This single-center retrospective non-comparative study included 60 eyes of 51 patients diagnosed with POAG and PEXG, who underwent trabectome alone or phacotrabeculectomy (TP) surgery between 2012 and 2016. Surgical success was defined as a 20% decrease in intraocular pressure (IOP) or IOP≤21 mmHg and no further glaucoma surgery.

Comparison of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and other primary glomerulonephrites in terms of parameters of hepatic steatosis and metabolic syndrome.

Purpose: The increasing frequency of coexistence of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and obesity-associated glomerulopathy and the relationship between metabolic syndrome components and chronic kidney disease have been demonstrated in studies. Based on this information, in this study, we aimed to compare FSGS and other primary glomerulonephritis diagnoses in terms of parameters of metabolic syndrome and hepatic steatosis.

Materials And Methods: In our study, the data of 44 patients who were diagnosed FSGS through kidney biopsy and 38 patients with any other primary glomerulonephritis diagnoses in our nephrology clinic were retrospectively analyzed.

IVIg-induced headache: prospective study of a large cohort with neurological disorders.

Background: Intravenous immune globulin (IVIg) is frequently used in some neurological diseases and is also the first-line therapy in Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, and multifocal motor neuropathy. We aimed to evaluate the frequency and characteristics of headaches, which is one of the most common side effects of IVIg treatment.

Methods: Patients who received IVIg treatment for neurological diseases were prospectively enrolled in 23 centers.

The study comprised 2901 consecutive STEMI patients who had pPCI. For each patient, the Naples prognostic score was determined.

Effect of Upper Lid Blepharoplasty Surgery on Corneal Topography and Corneal High-Order Aberrations.

The objective of this study was to prospectively investigate the effect of upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery for dermatochalasis on corneal topographic data and high-order aberrations (HOAs). Fifty eyelids of 50 patients with dermatochalasis who underwent upper lid blepharoplasty surgery were prospectively studied. A Pentacam (Scheimpflug camera, Oculus) device was used to measure corneal topographic values, astigmatism degree, and HOAs before and at 2 months after upper eyelid blepharoplasty.

Evaluation of the Long-Term Clinical Results of 3 Patients Implanted with the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis.

This study presents the long-term clinical results of Argus II retinal prosthesis implantation in eyes with light perception and projection in 3 patients with end-stage retinitis pigmentosa. No conjunctival erosion, hypotony, or implant displacement was observed during postoperative follow-up. The electrical threshold values were lower in the macular region and higher close to the tack fixation region and peripherally.

This study investigates the relationships between nursing students' internet addiction levels, communication skills and difficulties in emotion regulation. This cross-sectional study included 463 nursing students who completed the Internet Addiction Scale (IAS), Communication Skills Scale (CSS) and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-16). Approximately half of the nursing students were risky internet users.

Purpose: To investigate binarized choroidal structural parameters, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, and retina changes duringattack-free periods in patients with migraine using enhanced depth imaging optic coherence tomography (EDI-OCT), and compare patients with migraine with aura and without aura (MwA and MoA, respectively) and aura subgroups (visual aura, non-visual aura), with age and sex-matched healthy subjects.

Method: This observational, prospective study included 102 patients with migraine and 36 healthy controls. Central macular thickness (CMT), retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), ganglion cell layer (GCL), and choroidal thickness (CT) were measured using a Spectralis OCT device.

Background: The protective effect of obesity in patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention or bypass surgery has been described as the obesity paradox in the literature.

Aims: In this comprehensive meta-analysis, we aimed to investigate the pooled effect of the obesity paradox on mortality in acute coronary syndrome patients.

Prognostic value of Intermountain Risk Score for short- and long-term mortality in patients with cardiogenic shock.

Background: There is a lack of current research examining the predictive value of the Intermountain Risk Score (IMRS) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) caused by cardiogenic shock. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to investigate the ability of IMRS to predict short- and long-term mortality in patients with cardiogenic shock triggered by STEMI.

Methods: The participants included 492 consecutive cardiogenic shock patients who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention following STEMI.

Intravitreal dexamethasone implant results in the treatment of non-infectious uveitis.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal dexamethasone implant in non-infectious uveitic macular edema.

Methods: Between April 2013 and February 2017, 27 eyes of 21 patients were included in the study at Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital. The files of patients who underwent intravitreal dexamethasone implantation for non-infectious uveitic macular edema and followed up at least 6 months were retrospectively reviewed.

Digital Health Interventions in Patient Management Following Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Meta-Analysis of the Literature.

Objective: Acute coronary syndrome patients should be closely followed-up to maintain optimal adherence to medical treatments and to reduce adverse events.
