Breast-related herniation (BRH) is a vague term for many clinicians. The absence of a universal nomenclature and the different nature of the herniation process involved, being true or false, contribute to this vagueness. BRH includes a spectrum of disorders ranging from a few congenital breast disorders to commoner herniation processes related to acquired breast diseases.

Abdominoplasty is a common aesthetic surgical procedure primarily performed under general anesthesia (GA). However, GA is aerosol-generating and involves extended immobilization associated with systemic complications like venous thromboembolisms (VTEs). There is increasing interest in performing abdominoplasties without GA because of potential lower complication rates and shorter postoperative recovery time.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) poses a major risk after abdominal contouring surgery, impacting morbidity and mortality. Despite various preventative strategies, surgeons are cautious about using enoxaparin for extended postoperative periods. This study aims to determine if a 7-day postoperative course of enoxaparin increases bleeding risks compared with a single dose of intraoperative unfractionated heparin in patients undergoing abdominal contouring surgery.

SummaryThis discussion describes the long-term follow-up of a prospective randomized controlled trial evaluating the performance of the 2 most common biomesh products utilized in the context of complex abdominal wall reconstructions. Although the incidence of hernia recurrence increased over time to 26% (median follow-up 62 mo), both biomesh products performed similarly. Biomesh product choice should remain cost-conscious.

Background: Rising demand for non-invasive body contouring is driven by aesthetics and the obesity epidemic. Deoxycholic acid (DCA) is the only FDA-approved injectable for fat reduction but can cause side effects and significant local skin reactions (LSR). RNA interference, using small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules, offers targeted fat reduction by silencing genes involved in fat maintenance.

Case Summary: A cat aged 12 years and 7 months was referred to a multidisciplinary hospital for investigation of feline injection site sarcoma (FISS) on the left thoracolumbar region. A CT examination of the mass revealed a multi-lobulated mass affecting the body wall, extending from the level of lumbar vertebrae L2 to L4. The mass was excised with 5 cm lateral margins, including resection of the 13th left rib, the caudal edge of the latissimus dorsi (LD) muscle, full-thickness abdominal wall and sections of the lumbar epaxial muscles.

Liposuction has been popular with the public since its inception. The fat accumulated in the body is sucked outside the body through negative pressure suction, thereby reducing the fat cells in the body and achieving the effect of local plasticity. Although liposuction is a relatively safe procedure, due to the lack of correct judgment of the patient's condition and treatment by quite a few cosmetic practitioners, the complications of liposuction are gradually increasing.

A woman aged in her 70s presented with a chief complaint of abdominal pain, and she had been reconstructed by the Roux-en-Y method after total gastrectomy. We performed an enhanced computed tomography which revealed edematous wall thickening of the duodenum.

Background: The umbilicus holds significant aesthetic and symbolic importance in abdominal contouring. Its position, shape, and overall appearance are pivotal in determining the success and patient satisfaction after abdominoplasty, although the best way to archive it is discussed. We present our technique with our statistics and complication rate.

Open ventral hernia repair is one of the most commonly performed surgeries by general surgeons worldwide. In the case of complex incisional hernias, there are adjunct techniques that can help abdominal wall reconstruction surgery, such as type A botulinum toxin (BTA), whose injection results in muscle relaxation and growth of muscle fiber length, allowing fascial closure without the need for advanced techniques. We report a case of a male patient who underwent ultrasound-guided BTA injection in the abdominal wall and, five days later, was admitted to our emergency department with dysarthria, muscular weakness, dyspnea on small exertion, and constipation.

Purpose: Biologic meshes had been the first choice for abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR) in contaminated surgical fields. However, due to increased cost and questioned effectiveness, synthetic meshes have been also implemented. The aim of the present meta-analysis was to compare synthetic and biologic mesh in terms of recurrence and postoperative outcomes.

Introduction: Cosmetic surgery tourism is a burgeoning field, attracting patients with the possibility of procedures at reduced costs. Patients are often unaware of the potential cost of managing complications, with the cost often passed on to the local healthcare systems. We report our experience at a single academic center which serves as a safety net hospital managing cosmetic surgery tourism patients.

While panniculectomy is traditionally considered a cosmetic surgery, there is growing interest in the potential role of panniculectomy for the treatment of low back pain. We present a case of a 69-year-old man with a history of over 10 years of significant low back pain with radiculopathy rated as 7 out of 10 and resistant to conservative measures as well as multiple spinal decompression surgeries. He had undergone bariatric surgery 14 years prior and maintained a stable body mass index.

Introduction: Abdominoplasty aims to reduce the abdominal excess tissue and tighten the abdominal wall. The tightening of the abdominal wall has structural and habitual consequences on the body, which might have an early effect on electrocardiography (ECG) of the patients through volumetric and pressure changes in thoracic and abdominal cavities. ECG serves as a diagnostic tool for assessing cardiac electrical conductions in routine clinical practice.
