Pseudoendemism in Mediterranean black flies (Diptera: Simuliidae): a new record for Africa.

The first record of a European black fly, Simulium ichnusae Rivosecchi & Contini, is documented for Africa, where it was found at elevations above 1000 m in the Djurdjura Mountains of Algeria. Considered an endemic species of Sardinia for 60 years, S. ichnusae must now be regarded as pseudoendemic.

Stable angina revealing a post-traumatic coronary cameral fistula: A case report.

Coronary-cameral fistulas are abnormal connections between coronary arteries and any of the heart chambers, It may be acquired or congenital (whether isolated or along with congenital heart diseases); It is usually asymptomatic in younger patients; but with increasing age, symptoms begin to appear, and the incidence of complication rises. Coronary angiography is the gold standard in diagnosis but echography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging may be also useful. It can be treated medically with β-blockers or calcium channel blockers, but large fistulas with hemodynamic significant shunts should be closed by transcatheter or surgical means.

Comparative Analysis of Effect of Culture Conditions on Growth and C-Phycocyanin Production in Helical and Linear Spirulina.

Spirulina (Arthrospira and Spirulina spp.) has always been characterized by the helical trichomes, despite the existence of linear forms. A great debate is now open on the morphological flexibility of Spirulina, but it seems that both trichome morphology and C-phycocyanin (C-PC) concentrations are influenced by the culture conditions.

What is the optimal (neo)adjuvant strategy of extremity high-risk soft tissue sarcomas (ESTS)?

Currently, the standard treatment for extremity high-risk soft tissue sarcomas (ESTS) combines surgery and pre- or post-op radiation therapy (RT). In some selected cases, chemotherapy (CT) is incorporated into the therapeutic algorithm as a neoadjuvant approach to enable conservative management. Given the risk of local or metastatic relapse, this paper discusses the potential benefits of CT and RT in high-grade ESTs.

Neonatal pyogenic liver abscess following omphalitis: A case report.

Introduction And Importance: Liver abscesses in neonates are rare. Omphalitis is a very rare cause. We report a case of a voluminous neonatal pyogenic liver abscess following omphalitis, successfully managed in our institution.

New approach for hair keratin characterization: Use of the confocal Raman spectroscopy to assess the effect of thermal stress on human hair fibre.

Objective: The objective of our research was to investigate the heat-protecting effect of a product ex vivo and in vivo on human hair fibres.

Methods: A preparatory study was carried out in order to determine an optimal threshold of thermal stress. For this, the structure of cross-sections of the hair fibre was observed by optical microscopy.

The aim of the present study is the first to evaluate the ecotoxic state of the marine environment in Anza-Taghazout coasts (Morocco) after installation of two wastewater treatment plants using a natural population of marine bivalves Mytilus galloprovincialis. These coasts are exposed to many discharges generating, thus, different sources of pollutants. These pollutants can modulate the physiological responses of marine bivalves to environmental stress.

Prevalence, typing and antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella isolates from commercial shellfish in the North coast of Morocco.

Salmonellosis is one of the most common foodborne illnesses in the world. The irrational use of antibiotics in medicine and in animal nutrition has greatly favored the emergence and spread of resistant strains of non-typhoid Salmonella. This study aims the determination of the prevalence of Salmonella in bivalve mollusks in Northern Morocco, as well as the molecular typing and antibiotic susceptibility testing of the strains isolated from positive samples.
