In recent years, nanoflow sheath liquid (nanoSL) interfaces have been used more commonly for capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (CE-MS) coupling due to their high sensitivity combined with flexibility in CE separation conditions. So far, the exact amount of sheath liquid (SL) and, thus, the dilution effect remain unknown due to the self-supplying type of the nanoSL interfaces. To quantify the SL flow rates, we present here an approach for the determination of the flow rate based on isotopically labeled standards using the nanoCEasy interface.

Bio-based composites needed for lightweight applications benefit from the integration of natural fibers, due to their lower specific weight compared to synthetic fibers, contributing to the overall reduction in the weight of such structures without compromising the mechanical performance.

The analysis of product-related substances and impurities is a critical step in the biopharmaceutical quality control of multiattribute monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), as posttranslational modifications or other variants can influence the product's biological activity. Many approaches are available for variant analysis; however, they are either variant-specific, mAb-specific, time-consuming, or require expensive equipment. Here, we present a generic capillary electrophoretic method based on a neutral-coated capillary which was coupled to mass spectrometry (MS) via the nanoCEasy interface for mAb variant analysis at the subunit level (enzymatically digested and reduced mAb).

Capillary electrophoresis (CE) has emerged as a relevant technique for protein and biopharmaceutical analysis, as it combines high separation efficiency, sensitivity, and versatility. The use of capillary coatings, including successive multiple ionic-polymer layers (SMILs), reduces interactions between analytes and the capillary, further improving the CE performance. The effect of contamination of polypropylene (PP) with selected polymers is studied to simulate the effect of mis-sorting in recycling streams. Polystyrene (PS), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and polylactic acid (PLA) were compounded with PP at different concentrations varying between 3 and 10%. Infrared spectroscopy proved the absence of chemical bonds between the constituents.

For photo-dissociation of a single hydrogen molecule ( ) with combined XUV and IR laser pulses, we demonstrate optical control of the emission direction of the photoelectron with respect to the outgoing neutral fragment (the H-atom). Depending on the relative delay between the two laser fields, adjustable with sub-femtosecond time resolution, the photoelectron is emitted into the same hemisphere as the H-atom or opposite. This emission asymmetry is a result of entanglement of the two-electron final-state involving the spatially separated bound and emitted electron.

The more effective use of readily available Ce in FeNdB sintered magnets is an important step towards more resource-efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective permanent magnets. These magnets have the potential to bridge the gap between high-performance FeNdB and hard ferrite magnets. However, for higher degrees of cerium substitution (>25%), the magnetic properties deteriorate due to the lower intrinsic magnetic properties of FeCeB and the formation of the Laves phase FeCe in the grain boundaries.

Improving separation efficiency in capillary electrophoresis (CE) requires systematic study of the influence of the electric field (or solute linear velocity) on plate height for a better understanding of the critical parameters controlling peak broadening. Even for poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC)/poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS) successive multiple ionic-polymer layer (SMIL) coatings, which lead to efficient and reproducible separations of proteins, plate height increases with migration velocity, limiting the use of high electric fields in CE. Solute adsorption onto the capillary wall was generally considered as the main source of peak dispersion, explaining this plate height increase.

Condensation processes such as wet-dry cycling are thought to have played significant roles in the emergence of proto-peptides. Here, we describe a simple and low-cost method, differential Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, for qualitative analysis of peptide condensation products in model primordial reactions. We optimize differential FTIR for depsipeptides and apply this method to investigate their polymerization in the presence of extraterrestrial dust simulants.

This paper presents a comprehensive approach aimed at developing a coupled process-structure simulation that integrates anisotropic and elastoplastic material behavior for plastic components manufactured through Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) 3D printing. Successive multiple ionic-polymer layers (SMILs) have long since proved their worth in capillary electrophoresis as they ensure stable electroosmotic flow (EOF) and relatively high separation efficiency. Recently, we demonstrated that plotting the plate height (H) against the solute migration velocity (u) enabled a reliable quantitative evaluation of the coating performances in terms of separation efficiency. In this work, various physicochemical and chemical parameters of the SMIL coating were studied and optimized in order to decrease the slope of the ascending part of the H vs u curve, which is known to be controlled by the homogeneity in charge of the coating surface and by the possible residual solute adsorption onto the coating surface.
