Department of Chemistry, Howard University, 525 College Street NW, Washington DC 20059, USA.

A tetra-nuclear complex with an open-cubane-like core structure was synthesized from 2-meth-oxy-6-(pyridin-2-yl-hydrazonometh-yl)phenol (), namely, -tetra-kis-(μ-2-meth-oxy-6-{[2-(pyridin-2-yl)hydrazin-1-yl-idene]meth-yl}pheno-lato)tetra-nickel(II) tetra-kis-(perchlorate) aceto-nitrile monosolvate dihydrate, [Ni(CHNO)](ClO)·CHN·2HO, and characterized using micro-analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The crystal-structure determination reveals the formation of a distorted NiO cubane-like core architecture encapsulated by four hydrazone Schiff base () mol-ecules. A open-cube tetra-nuclear architecture is created in which nickel(II) ions of the NiNO unit are connected by μ-O anions of the phenolate moiety of .

Background: Transferrin receptor (TfR) is a carrier protein for transferrin. It is regulated in response to intracellular iron concentration and plays a role for the import of iron into the cell. The transferring receptor 2 (TFR2) gene showed homology to transferrin receptor 1 (TFR1) gene and encodes a transmembrane protein with a large extracellular domain, which is able to bind transferrin.

Background: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of intense physical training on vascular function in streptozotocin-diabetic rats. We focused on the endothelium-dependent relaxation (EDR) induced by acetylcholine (ACh) and stable ADP adenosine-5'- O - (2-thiodiphosphate) (ADPβS).

Methods: Control or diabetic male Wistar rats (n=44) were randomly assigned to sedentary or trained groups.

Hemoglobin D exist in four form; HbD trait, HbD-thalassemia, HbD sickle cell and HbD homozygous. HbD trait and HbD homozygous generally asymptomatic condition but when HbD co-inherit with thalassemia and sickle cell anemia, produces clinically significant conditions like chronic hemolytic anemia. Here we present a case of HbD Punjab with α 3.

Usually sickle cell traits are asymptomatic but co-existence of various factrors may alter the clinical as well as biochemical levels. In India sickle cell traits are neglected condition. Here we are presenting the alpha deletion in association with low serum iron and increased HbF level with Xmn-1 carriers in sickle cell traits.

A new method to estimate energy expenditure from abdominal and rib cage distances.

Eur J Appl Physiol

November 2011

Laboratory Movement, Sport and health Sciences, Physiology and Biomechanics, UFR APS University Rennes 2, Avenue Charles Tillon, CS 24414, 35044, Rennes Cedex, France.

The aim of this paper is to validate a new method of energy expenditure (EE) estimation stemming solely from the measurement of rib cage, abdominal and chest wall distances. We set out to prove that the variations of these distances, measured by two pairs of electromagnetic coils, lead to the estimation of the ventilation (VE) and the EE. Eleven subjects were recruited to take part in this study (27.

The aim of this study is to compare the relation between ventilation (VE) and oxygen uptake (VO2) [VO2=ƒ(VE)] and between heart rate (HR) and VO2 [VO2=ƒ(HR)]. Each one of the subjects performed three types of activities of different intensities (walking without load, walking with load and intermittent work). VO2, VE, and HR were measured continuously by using indirect calorimetry and an electrocardiogram.

QSAR studies on a series of benzopyrans as potassium channel activators have been carried out using a large set of distance-based topological indices. In addition, the molecular descriptors namely: negentropy and molecular redundancy indices have also been used. The relaxant potency in rat trachea, expressed as pEC(50) was used for biological characterization of the benzopyrans.

The present paper describes quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) formulated for a series of phosphoramidothioate (Ace II) analogs. The k(e) values for Ace II-induced inhibition of fly-acetylcholinesterase as well as LD50 for housefly exposed to Ace II analogs were governed by distance-based topological as well as information theoretic indices. In addition, we have also modeled lipophilicity of the phosphoramidothioates used.

QSAR and Computer Chemical Laboratories, APS University, Rewa-486 003, India.

QSAR study on a large set of 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors has been carried out using distance-based topological indices. Regression analysis of the data has indicated that an excellent model is obtained when these topological indices are combined with some classical molecular descriptors. The obtained models are critically discussed and examined.

The paper deals with quantitative structure-activity studies on a group of sulfanilamide Schiff's base inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase (CA) using distance-based topological indices. The regression analysis of the data has shown that the activities of the compounds used in inhibiting Carbonic AnhydraseII (CAII) activity can be modeled excellently in multi-parametric model in that some indicator parameters are also involved. The results are discussed critically.

The binding of a series of PAT analogues (rodenticides) to the [3H]-mepyramine-labelled H1 receptor in rat and guinea pig brain was investigated topologically using negentropy (N), molecular redundancy (MRI), first-order molecular connectivity (1chi(v)), Wiener (W), and Szeged (Sz) indices. Multiple regression analyses showed that MRI provided excellent results upon introduction of indicator parameters. Predictive ability of the proposed models was discussed using cross-validation parameters.

QSAR studies on antimalarial 2,4-diamino-6-quinazoline sulfonamides.

Acta Microbiol Immunol Hung

May 2001

Department of Chemistry, APS University, Rewa 486 003, India.

The present paper discusses QSAR studies on antimalarial 2,4-diamino-6-quinazoline sulfonamide derivatives using electronic parameters, namely energy of highest occupied molecular orbitals (EH), energy of lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (EL) and charge density (CD). The results have shown that better results are obtained by introducing dummy parameters (indicator parameter), Ip. Excellent results are obtained when all the four parameters (EH, EL, CD and Ip) are used in correlation analysis.
