Objectives: The goal of this study was to assess the relationship between liver surface nodularity (LSN), chemotherapy-associated liver injury (CALI), and clinically relevant post-hepatectomy liver failure (CR-PHLF) (i.e., ≥ grade B) in patients undergoing hepatectomy for colorectal liver metastases (CLM).

Background: While the metabolic syndrome (MS) is being recognized as an important risk factor for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), the outcomes of liver resection in this context remain poorly described. This study aims to report the short- and long-term results of hepatectomy for patients with MS as risk factor for the development of ICC (MS+).

Methods: All patients undergoing hepatectomy for ICC between 2000 and 2016 at a single center were retrospectively analyzed.

Time and age trends in smoking cessation in Europe.

PLoS One

November 2019

Unit of Epidemiology and Medical Statistics, Department of Diagnostics and Public Health, University of Verona, Verona, Italy.

Background: Smoking is the main risk factor for most of the leading causes of death. Cessation is the single most important step that smokers can take to improve their health. With the aim of informing policy makers about decisions on future tobacco control strategies, we estimated time and age trends in smoking cessation in Europe between 1980 and 2010.

Identification of CD245 as myosin 18A, a receptor for surfactant A: A novel pathway for activating human NK lymphocytes.

Oncoimmunology

May 2016

Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM) Unité Mixte de Recherche Scientifique (UMRS)-976, Laboratoire "Oncodermatology, Immunology and Cutaneous Stem Cells", Hôpital Saint-Louis, Paris, France; Université Paris VII Paris Diderot, Sorbonne Paris Cité, Paris, France.

CD245 is a human surface antigen expressed on peripheral blood lymphocytes, initially delineated by two monoclonal antibodies DY12 and DY35. Until now, CD245 molecular and functional characteristics remained largely unknown. We combined immunological and proteomic approaches and identified CD245 as the unconventional myosin 18A, a highly conserved motor enzyme reported as a receptor for the surfactant protein A (SP-A), that plays a critical role in cytoskeleton organization and Golgi budding.

Psoriasis is a frequent inflammatory disease that involves mostly the skin and sometimes the joints. This chronic disease is rarely life-threatening but impairs significantly the patient's quality of life. It is characterized, in its typical form, by erythematous and squamous plaques with well-defined borders, associated with increased proliferation of the keratinocytes, inflammation and greater number of dilated blood vessels in the upper dermis.

Background: Deletions and duplications of the 16p11.2 BP4-BP5 locus are prevalent copy number variations (CNVs), highly associated with autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia. Beyond language and global cognition, neuropsychological assessments of these two CNVs have not yet been reported.

Division of Molecular Genetics, Department of Pediatrics, Columbia University, New York, New York44Department of Medicine, Columbia University, New York, New York.

Importance: The 16p11.2 BP4-BP5 duplication is the copy number variant most frequently associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), schizophrenia, and comorbidities such as decreased body mass index (BMI).

Objectives: To characterize the effects of the 16p11.

We investigated composite films of gold nanoparticles (NPs)/liquid crystal (LC) defects as a model system to understand the key parameters, which allow for an accurate control of NP anisotropic self-assemblies using soft templates. We combined spectrophotometry, Raman spectroscopy, and grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering with calculations of dipole coupling models and soft sphere interactions. We demonstrate that dense arrays of elementary edge dislocations can strongly localize small NPs along the defect cores, resulting in formation of parallel chains of NPs.

We analysed the outcome of a second allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant (alloHSCT) in 162 patients reported to the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation between 1998 and 2009. Donor origin was a sibling in 110 and an unrelated donor in 52 transplants, respectively. The stem cell source was bone marrow in 31% and peripheral blood in 69% of transplants.
