Background: Despite evidence of benefits on postoperative outcomes, minimally invasive liver surgery (MILS) had a very low diffusion up to 2014, and recent evolution is unknown. Our aim was to analyze the recent diffusion and adoption of MILS and compare the trends in indications, extent of resection, and institutional practice with open liver surgery (OLS).
Methods: We analyzed the French nationwide, exhaustive cohort of all patients undergoing a liver resection in France between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2022.

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis is a rare and treatable metabolic disorder related to the accumulation of cholestanol. This disorder is primarily associated with motor and cognitive impairments, although the latter has not been extensively characterized. The objectives of this work were to define the cognitive profile found in cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis patients, investigate the progression of cognitive impairment over time, and search for radio-clinical correlations.

Background: T-cell immune infiltrates are robust prognostic variables in localised colon cancer. Evaluation of prognosis using artificial intelligence is an emerging field. We evaluated whether machine learning analysis improved prediction of patient outcome in comparison with analysis of T cell infiltrate only or in association with clinical variables.

Background/aim: We aimed to assess gastrointestinal cancers risks in a large cohort of individuals with primary antibody deficiency (PAD) and their association with risk of autoimmune and inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases.
Methods: Investigating a French national database of inpatient admissions between 2010 and 2018, we identified 12,748 patients with PAD and 38,244 control non-exposed individuals. We performed multiple exposed-non-exposed studies using conditional logistic regression.

Objective: To evaluate the relevance of the Rheumatoid Arthritis Impact of Disease (RAID) score as a disease activity marker of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a teleconsultation setting.
Methods: A prospective, observational, 24-month, single-center study involving patients with RA who underwent teleconsultations was performed. The RAID score was sent to all patients by email and completed the day before the scheduled session.

Background: There are several therapeutic options for the management of shoulder adhesive capsulitis (AC). The superiority of arthro-distension over intra-articular steroid injection (ISI) for AC remains controversial.
Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of a single arthro-distension procedure combined with early and intensive mobilization (ADM) and physiotherapy, versus ISI and physiotherapy, in people with AC lasting ≥3 months.

Rationale: It is unclear how each individual asthma symptom is associated with asthma diagnosis or control.
Objectives: To assess the performance of individual asthma symptoms in the identification of patients with asthma and their association with asthma control.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we assessed real-world data using the MASK-air app.

Introduction: Prognostication of outcome in severe stroke patients necessitating invasive mechanical ventilation poses significant challenges. The objective of this study was to assess the prognostic significance and prevalence of early electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities in adult stroke patients receiving mechanical ventilation.
Methods: This study is a pre-planned ancillary investigation within the prospective multicenter SPICE cohort study (2017-2019), conducted in 33 intensive care units (ICUs) in the Paris area, France.

Background: Smoking is responsible for 80 % of cases of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), while the prognosis is improved by smoking cessation (SC). We examined clinical factors associated with SC among smokers with COPD comparing women and men.
Methods: The study comprised a cohort of 1470 smokers who visited a SC service and completed at least 28-day of follow-up visits.

Background: Paediatric closed abdominal trauma is common, however, its severity and influence on survival are difficult to determine. No prognostic score integrating abdominal involvement exists to date in paediatrics.
Objectives: To evaluate the severity and short-term and medium-term prognosis of closed abdominal trauma in children, and the performance of severity scores in predicting mortality.

In 2012, somatic EPAS1 pathogenic variants were found to cause a triad of pheochromocytoma/paragangliomas (PPGLs), polycythemia, and somatostatinoma. Since then, a limited number of studies on this subject have been reported, and data on the long-term outcome of metastatic disease are not available on this rare syndrome. We comprehensively reviewed EPAS1-related PPGL and describe an unusual patient who has been living with an EPAS1-related metastatic PPGL for 47 years.

Background: Direct oral factor (F)Xa inhibitors are widely used as alternatives to conventional vitamin K antagonists in managing venous thromboembolism and nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. Unfortunately, bleeding-related adverse events remain a major concern in clinical practice. In case of bleeding or emergency surgery, rapid-onset reversal agents may be required to counteract the anticoagulant activity.

Lumbar spinal stenosis is the leading indication for spine surgery in older adults. Surgery is recommended in clinical guidelines if non-surgical treatments have been provided with insufficient benefit. The difficulty for clinicians is that the current number of randomised controlled trials is low, which creates uncertainty about which treatments to provide.

Background: Von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHL) is a rare autosomal dominant hereditary cancer-predisposition syndrome caused by germline pathogenic variants (PV) in VHL gene. It is associated with a high penetrance of benign and malignant vascular tumors in multiples organs, including pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs), whose long-term natural history is ill-known.
Methods: Patients with both documented germline PV in VHL gene and PanNETs included in the French PREDIR database between 1995 and 2022 were included.

Relapsing polychondritis is a rare inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent inflammation of cartilaginous structures, mainly of the ears, nose and respiratory tract, with a broad spectrum of accompanying systemic features. Despite its rarity, prompt recognition and accurate diagnosis of relapsing polychondritis is crucial for appropriate management and optimal outcomes. Our understanding of relapsing polychondritis has changed markedly in the past couple of years with the identification of three distinct patient clusters that have different clinical manifestations and prognostic outcomes.
