Background: We aimed to estimate the effect of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) on neurological outcome and mortality, when compared to conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR), using an individual patient data meta-analysis (IPDMA).

Methods: A systematic literature search was performed up to the 20th of October 2022 in the PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL databases. For observational studies with unmatched populations, a propensity score including age, location of arrest and initial rhythm was used to match ECPR and CCPR patients in a 1:1 ratio.

Thoracic manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are rare, occurring in less than 1% of patients. Unlike most other extra-intestinal manifestations, they predominate in patients with ulcerative colitis rather than in Crohn's disease. In most patients, thoracic involvement follows the onset of IBD by several years.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers discovered that the hormone hepcidin is highly expressed in the skin of psoriasis patients, particularly those with treatment-resistant pustular forms.
  • * In experiments with mice, high levels of hepcidin in skin cells caused excessive skin growth and immune cell attraction, suggesting hepcidin plays a key role in psoriasis and could be a target for new treatments.

University Paris Cité, AP-HP.Center, Outpatient Addictology Center, Paris, France; Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique du Réseau Français d'Excellence de Recherche sur Tabac, nicotine et produit connexes (GIS REfer Tab), Paris, France; DMU Psychiatry and Addictology, AP-HP, Centre-University of Paris, Paris, France; Fédération Hospitalo-Universitaire Network of Research in Substance Use Disorder, Paris, France.

Smoking is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), in particular in women, but smoking cessation (SC) reduces or even cancels the risk for both sexes. Using a nationwide SC services database, we aimed to determine the predictive factors of SC in men and women smokers with CV risk factors (CVRF) or CVD. A retrospective study from the French CDTnet database was conducted.

Electronic address:

Targeted therapy has revolutionized the management of ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) over the last fifteen years. Rituximab, an approved induction and maintenance agent for severe AAV, is no less effective than cyclophosphamide as induction therapy and particularly useful in relapsing or refractory disease, or in women. In patients with relapsing AAV, granulomatosis with polyangiitis or PR3-ANCA, it is more effective than cyclophosphamide.

Article Synopsis
  • Low-grade oncocytic tumor (LOT) is a rare type of kidney tumor that resembles other renal tumors, making it hard to diagnose; this study aimed to better understand its imaging characteristics.* -
  • Researchers analyzed preoperative imaging from 12 confirmed LOT cases using CT or MRI, finding common features such as well-defined borders and specific patterns of enhancement.* -
  • The study concludes that certain imaging features can suggest LOT, but further research is needed for validation, and a biopsy is recommended before treatment decisions.*

Department of Musculoskeletal Radiology, Hôpital Cochin, AP-HP Centre, Université Paris Cité, Paris, France.

The central role of imaging in diagnosing disorders affecting the sacroiliac joints (SIJs) necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the advantages, limitations, and potential pitfalls of the imaging techniques that can be used. In this article, the anatomy and biomechanics of SIJs are exposed, outlining their unique features, particularly the division into anteroinferior cartilaginous and postero-superior ligamentous parts. Overall, the goal of this article is to offer a comprehensive understanding of imaging techniques, anatomic complexity, and diagnostic considerations relevant to SIJs disorders, facilitating accurate diagnosis and patient management in clinical practice and research.

Radiotherapy (RT) for high-risk localized prostate cancer (HRLPC) can be controversial in the context of increasing detection of suspicious lymph nodes via advanced imaging techniques. The EORTC 22683 trial initially established RT with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) as the standard of care for HRLPC, but many patients remain uncured. GETUG-AFU-12 showed that addition of docetaxel and estramustine to ADT improved relapse-free survival but not overall survival.

Article Synopsis
  • - Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is common in cardiac arrest patients, but diagnosing it post-arrest is difficult, leading to debate over the effectiveness of biomarkers like C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT) for this purpose.
  • - The study analyzed the role of various biomarkers in diagnosing and predicting VAP within 48 hours following cardiac arrest and therapeutic hypothermia, using a randomized clinical trial as a foundation.
  • - Results showed that VAP patients had distinct clinical features and higher biomarker levels indicating VAP; CRP was notably associated with VAP, demonstrating an area under the curve (AUC) greater than 0.70 in analyses.

Benign tumors of the liver and biliary tract are rare entities, and some of them require surgical management to prevent their malignant transformation. Tumors from the biliary tract with malignant potential are treated either by hepatic resection, for mucinous cystic neoplasm and ciliated hepatic foregut cysts, or by biliary resections, for biliary papillary neoplasm and type I and IV choledochal cysts. The pathologies requiring prophylactic cholecystectomy are polyps larger than 10 mm, porcelain gallbladder and pancreaticobiliary maljunction.
