Impact of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation on neurological prognosis and survival in adult patients after cardiac arrest: An individual pooled patient data meta-analysis.

Background: We aimed to estimate the effect of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) on neurological outcome and mortality, when compared to conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR), using an individual patient data meta-analysis (IPDMA).

Methods: A systematic literature search was performed up to the 20th of October 2022 in the PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL databases. For observational studies with unmatched populations, a propensity score including age, location of arrest and initial rhythm was used to match ECPR and CCPR patients in a 1:1 ratio.

Lowering platelet-count threshold for transfusion in preterm neonates decreases the number of transfusions without increasing severe hemorrhage events.

Unlabelled: Thrombocytopenia is common in preterm neonates and can be associated with hemorrhage. Most platelet transfusions are prophylactic. Previously, higher platelet-count thresholds were recommended for neonates, but this recommendation has been questioned in recent studies.

Imaging findings of thoracic manifestations of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Thoracic manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are rare, occurring in less than 1% of patients. Unlike most other extra-intestinal manifestations, they predominate in patients with ulcerative colitis rather than in Crohn's disease. In most patients, thoracic involvement follows the onset of IBD by several years.

Using a nationwide SC services database, we aimed to determine the predictive factors of SC in men and women smokers with CV risk factors (CVRF) or CVD. A retrospective study from the French CDTnet database was conducted.

Update on targeted treatments for ANCA-associated vasculitis.

Targeted therapy has revolutionized the management of ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) over the last fifteen years. Rituximab, an approved induction and maintenance agent for severe AAV, is no less effective than cyclophosphamide as induction therapy and particularly useful in relapsing or refractory disease, or in women. In patients with relapsing AAV, granulomatosis with polyangiitis or PR3-ANCA, it is more effective than cyclophosphamide.

In seeking patient protection and continuous improvement, the Pharmacy Department in the Sterile Ophthalmological and Oncological Preparations Unit at Cochin Hospital AP-HP, Paris, France, conducted a two-phase study to compare the antimicrobial efficiency and practical use of standard packaging and a marketed eye drop container incorporating a self-decontaminating antimicrobial green technology by Pylote SAS at the tip and cap sites.

Background: Several self-administered questionnaires are available for assessing hip function in clinical practice (HOOS-12, Oxford-12). These questionnaires can be used to assess and monitor patients with hip pathology. However, they are sometimes difficult to deploy in clinical practice.

Heavy episodic drinking among French adolescents between 2005 and 2022: decreasing prevalence rates and increased risks.

Objective: To study the prevalence of alcohol use among French adolescents over time and factors associated with heavy episodic drinking (HED) among drinkers.

Method: Our analysis relies on six waves of a standardized cross, sectional survey conducted in mainland France between 2005 and 2022. The overall sample size comprises 179905 adolescents aged 17 (90166 males and 89739 females).

Radiation Therapy for Locally Advanced Prostate Cancer: How Do We Treat Patients with cN1 Disease?

Radiotherapy (RT) for high-risk localized prostate cancer (HRLPC) can be controversial in the context of increasing detection of suspicious lymph nodes via advanced imaging techniques. The EORTC 22683 trial initially established RT with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) as the standard of care for HRLPC, but many patients remain uncured. GETUG-AFU-12 showed that addition of docetaxel and estramustine to ADT improved relapse-free survival but not overall survival.

Tumors from the biliary tract with malignant potential are treated either by hepatic resection, for mucinous cystic neoplasm and ciliated hepatic foregut cysts, or by biliary resections, for biliary papillary neoplasm and type I and IV choledochal cysts. The pathologies requiring prophylactic cholecystectomy are polyps larger than 10 mm, porcelain gallbladder and pancreaticobiliary maljunction.

Behavioral training and mirroring techniques to prepare for elective anesthesia in children with autism spectrum disorder: a prospective evaluation of implemented program.

Background: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often require multiple interventions receiving general anesthesia during their lifetimes. However, a single negative experience may trigger and/or aggravate anxiety and subsequent development of unwanted behavior. This monocentric study assessed the compliance with mask induction of children with ASD who followed a preoperative preparation using behavioral training with positive reinforcement technique and use of mirroring technique.
