Therapeutic Potential of a Senolytic Approach in a Murine Model of Chronic GVHD.

Biology (Basel)

April 2023

Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Singapore 117597, Singapore.

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a life-threatening systemic complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) characterized by dysregulation of T and B cell activation and function, scleroderma-like features, and multi-organ pathology. The treatment of cGVHD is limited to the management of symptoms and long-term use of immunosuppressive therapy, which underscores the need for developing novel treatment approaches. Notably, there is a striking similarity between cytokines/chemokines responsible for multi-organ damage in cGVHD and pro-inflammatory factors, immune modulators, and growth factors secreted by senescent cells upon the acquisition of senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP).

Division of Informatics, Imaging and Data Science, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, University of Manchester, Manchester Academic Health, United Kingdom.

At the same level of lung function, some patients with cystic fibrosis have large variations in their FEV1 percent predicted (FEV1pp) values while others have stable values. We hypothesised that lower adherence to nebuliser therapies was associated with higher FEV1pp variability. We conducted a post hoc analysis of the ACtiF trial data.

The French health insurance data warehouse named SNDS is one of the largest medico-administrative in the world allowing for powerful pharmacoepidemiological studies, based on real-life data collected prospectively. In addition to the absolute necessity of a strong pharmacological rationale, recommendations have been thought to improve the quality of pharmacoepidemiological studies. These guidelines emphasize the importance of an accurate definition of the study population, outcome and exposure, especially for studies performed on medico-administrative databases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of chest high-resolution CT (HRCT) in patients with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), a condition that hasn't been extensively analyzed using this imaging method.
  • Researchers conducted a retrospective analysis of 46 EGPA patients from three French hospitals, assessing HRCT images for abnormal findings and correlating these with clinical outcomes.
  • The results showed distinct HRCT patterns among patients, with those in one group (ground-glass pattern) having worse prognoses and higher rates of steroid dependency, whereas another group (bronchial pattern) exhibited better outcomes and higher remission rates, suggesting HRCT can inform better management strategies in EGPA.

Front Aging Neurosci

November 2022

Service de Biochimie, CHU Pellegrin, Bordeaux, France.

Neurological biomarkers are particularly valuable to clinicians as they can be used for diagnosis, prognosis, or response to treatment. This field of neurology has evolved considerably in recent years with the improvement of analytical methods, allowing the detection of biomarkers not only in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) but also in less invasive fluids like blood. These advances greatly facilitate the repeated quantification of biomarkers, including at asymptomatic stages of the disease.
