Injuries to the parotid duct and parenchyma resulting in swelling in the cheek region commonly present in maxillofacial practice. Sialocele is a discrete collection of saliva in a subcutaneous cavity that can be iatrogenic, idiopathic or the result of post-traumatic injuries to the duct or parenchyma, presenting as a salivary pseudocyst or retention cyst. We present an unusual case of parotid sialocele following surgery for sialolithiasis which presented with progressive painless swelling in the preauricular region of 9 months duration.

A sequential approach in treatment of endo-perio lesion a case report.

J Clin Diagn Res

August 2014

Senior Lecturer, Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Jodhpur Dental College General Hospital, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India .

Endo-perio lesions primarily occur by way of the intimate anatomic and vascular connections between the pulp and the periodontium. Endodontic-periodontal combined lesion is a clinical dilemma because making a differential diagnosis and deciding a prognosis are difficult. An untreated primary endodontic lesion may become secondarily involved with periodontal breakdown, which clinically present unusual signs and symptoms.

Facial tissue loss presents with multiple functional and psychological problems. Its rehabilitation can improve the physical, mental and social well being of the patient. In conditions where surgical corrections are not favourable, the prosthetic approach to rehabilitate the missing structures can solve the problems, with added advantages of having complete control over colour and morphological outcome to match the surrounding skin and the counter lateral part.

Background: Oral cancer is one of the most debilitating diseases afflicting mankind. Consumption of tobacco in various forms constitutes one of the most important etiological factors in initiation of oral cancer. When the focus of today's research is to determine early genotoxic changes in human cells, micronucleus (MN) assay provides a simple, yet reliable indicator of genotoxic damage.

An implant-level impression is often desired for designing and fabricating an implant-supported fixed restoration. This clinical report describes the use of modified press-fit metal implant fixture mount as an impression coping for making an impression of closely placed implants. The fixture mount is easier to manipulate, time saving and more comfortable for both the clinician and patient because the implant fixture mount is connected to the implant by pressing on instead of screwing.

MSX ₁ gene variant and non-syndromic clefting: association or rejection?

Indian J Dent Res

February 2016

Departments of Orthodontics, and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, AME's Dental College, Hospital and Research Center, Raichur, Karnataka, India.

Context: Non-syndromic cleft lip/palate (NSCL/P) is a congenital anomaly with significant medical, psychological and social ramifications. There is sufficient evidence to hypothesize that locus for this condition can be identified by candidate genes.

Aims: The aim of this study is to amplify the chosen region (799 G >T) of MSX 1 gene, investigate the degree of association and perform a mutation research from Raichur cleft lip and palate patient sample.

Giant cemento-ossifying fibroma of the mandible.

J Nat Sci Biol Med

January 2014

Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Krishna School of Dental Sciences, Karad, Maharashtra, India.

Cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF) is classified as a fibro-osseous neoplasm and included among the non-odontogenic tumors derived from the mesenchymal blast cells of the periodontal ligament, with a potential for forming fibrous tissue, cementum and bone, or a combination of such elements. These are slow-growing lesions, and are more frequent in women between the third and fourth decades of life. Case reports of massive expansile COF, measuring more than 10 cm are rarely reported in the literature.

Management of palato radicular groove in a maxillary lateral incisor.

J Nat Sci Biol Med

January 2014

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences, Virajpet, Coorg, Karnataka, India.

This study is to report the rare localization of a radicular groove on the palatal aspect of the maxillary lateral incisor and to discuss the pathology and management of the concomitant endo-periodontal defect. Unilateral palato-radicular groove was located on the Maxillary right lateral incisor of an 18-year-old female patient. The groove was associated with deep local periodontal pocket resulting in pulp necrosis and the formation of a large periapical lesion.

Article Synopsis
  • Impaction of teeth is influenced by genetic and environmental factors, and radiographs are essential for assessing their type and location.
  • Recent advancements, particularly cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), improve visualization and diagnosis of impacted teeth by providing detailed 3D images of bone thickness, tooth position, and morphology.
  • A case study of a 27-year-old male with multiple impacted teeth demonstrates that CBCT can enhance treatment planning and prognostic accuracy, leading to better patient outcomes.
