Introduction Patients scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic appendicectomy typically undergo routine preoperative blood grouping and saving (G&S). Despite the low incidence of blood transfusion in this context, the acquisition and processing of G&S samples incur a cost of £31 ($40) per sample. This study aims to review blood transfusion usage in these procedures to determine whether routine G&S sampling is clinically necessary or represents an avoidable expense.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors have unprecedentedly advanced hormone-dependent breast cancer treatment paradigm. In the metastatic setting, ribociclib has consistently demonstrated survival benefit in pre-, peri-, and postmenopausal patients, conjugating efficacy with health-related quality of life preservation. Accordingly, the emergence of cardiac and/or vascular adverse events related to this novel targeted agent is gaining significant interest.

Breast cancer and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) represent significant global health challenges, with CVD being the leading cause of mortality and breast cancer, showing a complex pattern of incidence and mortality. We explore the intricate interplay between these two seemingly distinct medical conditions, shedding light on their shared risk factors and potential pathophysiological connections. A specific connection between hypertension (HTN), atrial fibrillation (AF), myocardial infarction (MI), and breast cancer was evaluated.

Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is an autosomal dominant hereditary cancer syndrome associated with germline pathogenic variants in the tumor protein p53 () gene and elevated risk of a broad range of early-onset malignancies. Patients with LFS are at risk of a second and third primary tumor. A 15-month-old girl consulted for clitoromegaly and pubic hair.

Despite major advances in pharmacotherapy and interventional procedures, coronary artery disease (CAD) remains a principal cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Invasive coronary imaging along with the computation of hemodynamic forces, primarily endothelial shear stress and plaque structural stress, have enabled a comprehensive identification of atherosclerotic plaque components, providing a unique insight into the understanding of plaque vulnerability and progression, which may help guide patient treatment. However, the invasive-only approach to CAD has failed to show high predictive value.

Leiomyomas are the most common benign smooth muscle tumors of the female genital tract. Among the recognized histologic variants, one of the least common is plexiform leiomyoma. When they are small, even microscopic findings, they are referred to as plexiform tumorlets.

Platelet function testing (PFT) could be a useful clinical tool to guide individualized antithrombotic treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We aimed to investigate platelet reactivity (PR) in the context of a contemporary registry. "Real-world" data were retrieved from a nationwide, multicenter, observational study of AF patients on oral anticoagulants (OAC) undergoing PCI.

Background/aim: Utilizing an experimental animal model, we investigated the correlation between aromatase inhibitors (AIs) (anastrozole and letrozole) and Calprotectin levels. AIs have demonstrated superior efficacy when used as adjuvant endocrine therapy or monotherapy for postmenopausal patients with hormone receptor (HR)-positive early-stage breast cancer, although various side effects have been recorded.
Materials And Methods: Fifty-five adult female Wistar rats were randomized and assigned into four groups.

The objective of the present systematic review was the determination of methodologies preferable for treating phyllodes tumors (PTs) of the breast and whether the malignancy of the tumor is of significance to the selected treatment. In addition, to investigate if local recurrence (LR) within patients is different based on the therapeutic approach followed by the physician. All studies were gathered by utilization of the biggest online medical databases in the world including PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, Web of Science and Google Scholar.

Introduction: It has been recognized that increasing body mass index (BMI) is associated with improved outcome from immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in patients with various malignancies including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, it is unclear whether baseline BMI may influence outcomes from first-line chemoimmunotherapy combinations.
Methods: In this international multicenter study, we evaluated the association between baseline BMI, progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in a cohort of patients with stage IV NSCLC consecutively treated with first-line chemoimmunotherapy combinations.

Methods: By a retrospective analysis of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with first-line Pembrolizumab or in combination with chemotherapy (ChT) during the first surge of the pandemic.
Results: The adjusted risk of death was higher in patients treated with ChT + Pembrolizumab (HR 4.

Stress echocardiography (SE) is a well established and valid technique, widely used for the diagnostic evaluation of patients with ischemic and nonischemic cardiac diseases. This statement of the Echocardiography Working Group of the Hellenic Society of Cardiology summarizes the consensus of the writing group regarding the applications of SE, based on the expertise of their members and on a critical review of present medical literature. The main objectives of the consensus document include a comprehensive review of SE methodology and training-which focus on the preparation, the protocols used, the analysis of the SE images, and updated, evidence-based knowledge about SE applications on ischemic and nonischemic heart diseases, such as in cardiomyopathies, heart failure, and valvular heart disease.

Background: Improved outcome in tobacco smoking patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following immunotherapy has previously been reported. However, little is known regarding this association during first-line immunotherapy in patients with high PD-L1 expression. In this study we compared clinical outcomes according to the smoking status of two large multicenter cohorts.

Background: The association between obesity and outcomes in patients receiving programmed death-1/programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) checkpoint inhibitors has already been confirmed in pre-treated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, regardless of PD-L1 tumor expression.
Methods: We present the outcomes analysis according to baseline body mass index (BMI) and BMI variation in a large cohort of metastatic NSCLC patients with a PD-L1 expression ≥50%, receiving first line pembrolizumab. We also evaluated a control cohort of metastatic NSCLC patients treated with first line platinum-based chemotherapy.

Purpose: Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) are a high-risk subset of patients, whose optimal antithrombotic treatment strategy, involving a combination of anticoagulant and antiplatelet agents, has not been well defined. Our study aims to investigate contemporary "real-world" trends of antithrombotic treatment strategies in AF patients undergoing PCI, as well as identify factors affecting decision-making at hospital discharge.
Methods: "Real-world" data were retrieved from the GReek-AntiPlatElet Atrial Fibrillation (GRAPE-AF) registry, a contemporary, nationwide, multicenter, observational study of AF patients undergoing PCI.

Methods: Eighty cases characterized as squamous intraepithelial lesions (SILs) and also borderline cases with molecularly proven HPV infection were examined.
