Aim: To quantify the economic burden associated with tobacco smoking among smokers aged 30-69 years, and second-hand smokers (SHS) aged 15-69 years in Jordan.

Materials And Methods: A prevalence-based analysis was conducted in alignment with the Economics of Tobacco Toolkit developed by the WHO. The time-horizon of the analysis was one year (2019).

Advanced Optoelectronic Modeling and Optimization of HTL-Free FASnI/C60 Perovskite Solar Cell Architecture for Superior Performance.

In this study, a novel perovskite solar cell (PSC) architecture is presented that utilizes an HTL-free configuration with formamide tin iodide (FASnI) as the active layer and fullerene (C60) as the electron transport layer (ETL), which represents a pioneering approach within the field. The elimination of hole transport layers (HTLs) reduces complexity and cost in PSC heterojunction structures, resulting in a simplified and more cost-effective PSC structure. In this context, an HTL-free tin HC(NH)SnI-based PSC was simulated using the solar cell capacitance simulator (SCAPS) within a one-dimensional framework.

A Glucose Oxidase-Curcumin Composite Nanoreactor for Multimodal Synergistic Cancer Therapy.

Glucose oxidase (GOx) selectively oxidizes β-d-glucose into gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide; thus, it has emerged as a promising anticancer agent by tumor starvation and oxidative therapy. Here, we developed a nanoscale platform or "nanoreactor" that incorporates GOx and the bioactive natural product curcumin (CUR) to achieve a multimodal anticancer nanocomposite. The composite nanoreactor was formed by loading CUR in biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) of poly(ethylene glycol)--poly(ε-caprolactone) (PEG-PCL).

Knowledge and practice of informal caregivers on pressure injury prevention and treatment among patients receiving palliative care.

Background: Pressure injuries (PIs) are prevalent in palliative care. Lack of knowledge and skills among informal caregivers on PI prevention and management contributes significantly to the occurance or deterioration of PIs.

Aim: The aims of this study were to: (1) determine the level of knowledge and practices of informal caregivers on PI prevention and treatment; (2) explore the socio-demographic characteristics of informal caregivers that influence PI prevention and treatment among patients who need palliative care.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a family-based lifestyle intervention on reducing body weight among Jordanian children with obesity aged 6-9 years old. Topical gel formulations as potential dermal delivery carriers for green-synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles.

This study aimed to incorporate green-synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), functionalized with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and linked to doxorubicin (DOX), into various topical gel formulations (hydrogel, oleogel, and bigel) to enhance their dermal delivery. The ZnO NPs were produced using the aqueous extract of the root hair of Phoenix dactylifera. The optimized green-synthesized ZnO NPs, PEGylated and conjugated to DOX, demonstrated a particle size below 100 nm, low polydispersity index, and zeta potential between - 11 and - 19 mV.

Cytotoxic and molecular differences of anticancer agents on 2D and 3D cell culture.

Background: Cancer and multidrug resistance are regarded as concerns related to poor health outcomes. It was found that the monolayer of 2D cancer cell cultures lacks many important features compared to Multicellular Tumor Spheroids (MCTS) or 3D cell cultures which instead have the ability to mimic more closely the in vivo tumor microenvironment. This study aimed to produce 3D cell cultures from different cancer cell lines and to examine the cytotoxic activity of anticancer medications on both 2D and 3D systems, as well as to detect alterations in the expression of certain genes levels.

Confidence, attitude, and practice of scientific research among health professions' students in the United Arab Emirates.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the confidence, attitude, and scientific research practices of undergraduate students of different health profession specialties.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, an online-based questionnaire was distributed as a Google Form via groups and pages of medical universities available on social media sites such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter to the second- to sixth-year students of different health profession specialties in different universities across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the period from October through December 2023 using the convenience sampling technique. The questionnaire included four parts that assessed socio-demographics and custom-designed research-related questions (6 items), perceived confidence (8 items), attitudes (14 items), and the practice in the context of scientific research and its implementation (9 items).

The influence of hospital accreditation on nurses' perceptions of patient safety culture.

Objectives: Hospitals' accreditation process is carried out to enhance the quality of hospitals' care and patient safety practices as well. The current study aimed to investigate the influence of hospitals' accreditation on patient safety culture as perceived by Jordanian hospitals among nurses.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional correlational survey was used for the current study, where the data were obtained from 395 nurses by convenient sampling technique who were working in 3 accredited hospitals with 254 nurses, and 3 non-accredited hospitals with 141 nurses, with a response rate of 89%.
