Repeated exposure to tobacco smoke causes neuroinflammation and neuroplasticity, which correlates with smoking withdrawal-induced anxiety. The purpose of this study was to investigate the anticipated involvement of antioxidant-rich nanoparticles (NPs) prepared by oxidation-triggered polymerization of green tea catechins in impacting these effects in a rat model of tobacco smoke exposure. Exposure to tobacco smoke was carried out for 2 h a day, 5 days a week, for a total of 36 days.

Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5), an enzyme responsible for catalyzing the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), has been linked to the development of cancer. PDE5 inhibitors (PDE5i), such as sildenafil (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis), work by blocking the action of PDE5 and are used primarily as treatments for erectile dysfunction and arterial hypertension. Some studies suggested a potential link between PDE5i and increased cancer risk, while other studies showed preferable antitumor effects.

The synthesis and characterization of spinel cobalt-based metal oxides (MCoO) with varying 3d-transition metal ions (Ni, Fe, Cu, and Zn) were explored using a hydrothermal process (140 °C for two hours) to be used as alternative counter electrodes for Pt-free dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealed distinct morphologies for each metal oxide, such as NiCoO nanosheets, Cu CoO nanoleaves, Fe CoO diamond-like, and Zn CoO hexagonal-like structures. The X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the cubic spinel structure for the prepared MCoO films.

Tamoxifen is commonly used in the treatment of hormonal-positive breast cancer. However, 30%-40% of tumors treated with tamoxifen develop resistance; therefore, an important step to overcome this resistance is to understand the underlying molecular and metabolic mechanisms. In the present work, we used metabolic profiling to determine potential biomarkers of tamoxifen resistance, and gene expression levels of enzymes important to these metabolites and then correlated the expression to the survival of patients receiving tamoxifen.
