Redefining diagnostic parameters: the role of overvaluation of shape and weight in binge-eating disorder: a systematic review.

J Eat Disord

January 2025

GGZ Rivierduinen Eating Disorders Ursula, Sandifortdreef 19, 2333 AK, Leiden, The Netherlands.

Introduction: Overvaluation of shape and weight is a critical component in understanding and diagnosing eating disorders. While the transdiagnostic model states that overvaluation of shape and weight is the core pathology of all eating disorders, this concept is not a criterion for binge-eating disorder. The lack of recognition of overvaluation of shape and weight may lead to overlooking, and consequently failure to address this construct during treatment.

Background: In dentistry, local anesthetic is frequently used to manage pain throughout several phases of dental treatments, including tooth extraction. The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two techniques for controlling pain during mandibular exodontia (tooth extraction), specifically focusing on the pain experienced during injection and extraction of mandibular anterior and premolars teeth. The two techniques being compared are the intraligamentary injection technique (ILI) and the incisive nerve block technique (INB).

Influence of drought stress on phosphorus dynamics and maize growth in tropical ecosystems.

BMC Plant Biol

January 2025

Center for Eco-Environment Restoration of Hainan Province, School of Ecology, Hainan University, Haikou, 570228, China.

Drought has a significant impact on ecosystem functions, especially on the biogeochemical cycling of phosphorus (P), which is a crucial nutrient for plant growth and productivity. Despite its importance, the effects of different drought scenarios on soil P cycling and availability remain poorly understood in previous studies. This study simulated drought conditions in tropical soils using maize as a test crop under varying field capacity (FC) levels (100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20%) over a 60-day pot experiment.

Fifty years ago, Tversky and Kahneman (Cognitive Psychology, 5[2], 207-232, 1973) reported that people's speeded estimations of 8 × 7 × 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 were notably higher than their estimations for the equivalent expression in the opposite order, 1 × 2 × 3 × 4 × 5 × 6 × 7 × 8 (Median = 2,250 vs. 512, respectively). On top of this order effect, both groups grossly underestimated the correct value (40,320).

Comparison of failure rates between full-barium and striped barium distal shunt catheters: a matched case-control study.

Childs Nerv Syst

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Children's of Alabama, 1600 7th Avenue South, Lowder 400, Birmingham, AL, 35233, USA.

Purpose: We hypothesize that distal shunt catheters fully impregnated with barium are more prone to failure compared to distal catheters with only a barium stripe. We sought to evaluate this distinction using a matched case-control study.

Methods: Patient records over an 8-year period were queried for distal shunt revisions for fracture or disconnection (cases).

This study aims to synthesize a new localized drug delivery system of bioglass, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), cellulose (CNC), and sodium alginate (SA) beads as a carrier for methotrexate (MTX) drugs for the treatment of osteosarcoma. Methotrexate /Bioglass-loaded Polyvinyl/Cellulose/Sodium alginate biocomposite beads were prepared via the dropwise method with different concentrations of (65%SiO-30%CaO- 5%PO) bioglass. Samples were named B0, S0, S1, S2, and S3, respectively.

Growth, physiological and molecular response of calcium and salicylic acid primed wheat under lead stress.

Mol Biol Rep

January 2025

Plant Protection and Bimolecular Diagnosis Department, Arid Lands Cultivation Research Institute, City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications, New Borg El-Arab 21934, Alexandria, Egypt.

Background: Heavy metal contamination, particularly from lead (Pb), poses a significant threat to plant agriculture worldwide, adversely affecting growth, physiological functions, and yield. Signalling molecules such as calcium and salicylic acid are known to mitigate various stresses in plants, prompting this study to explore their interaction with Pb stress in wheat.

Methods: A pot experiment was conducted in which wheat grains were primed with either distilled water, 5 mM calcium (Ca), or 0.

Histone acetylation is the process by which histone acetyltransferases (HATs) add an acetyl group to the N-terminal lysine residues of histones, resulting in a more open chromatin structure. Histone acetylation tends to increase gene expression more than methylation does. In the central nervous system (CNS), histone acetylation is essential for controlling the expression of genes linked to cognition and learning.

The impact of relative word-length on effects of non-adjacent word transpositions.

Centre de Recherche en Psychologie et Neuroscience, CNRS & Aix-Marseille University, Marseille, France.

A recent study (Wen et al., Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 50: 934-941, 2024) found no influence of relative word-length on transposed-word effects. However, following the tradition of prior research on effects of transposed words during sentence reading, the transposed words in that study were adjacent words (words at positions 2 and 3 or 3 and 4 in five-word sequences).

Clotrimazole 1% and Mycozin vaginal cream have been reported to be effective in relieving the symptoms of vulvovaginitis caused by Candida. The resistance to azole compounds, and the side effects of chemical drugs have been reported following azole therapy. It was hypothesized that Mycozin is at least as effective as Clotrimazole in treating vaginal candidiasis.

Advanced microgrid optimization using price-elastic demand response and greedy rat swarm optimization for economic and environmental efficiency.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering and Diagnostics of Electrical Equipment, Institute of Electrodynamics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Beresteyskiy, 56, Kyiv-57, Kyiv, 03680, Ukraine.

In this paper, a comprehensive energy management framework for microgrids that incorporates price-based demand response programs (DRPs) and leverages an advanced optimization method-Greedy Rat Swarm Optimizer (GRSO) is proposed. The primary objective is to minimize the generation cost and environmental impact of microgrid systems by effectively scheduling distributed energy resources (DERs), including renewable energy sources (RES) such as solar and wind, alongside fossil-fuel-based generators. Four distinct demand response models-exponential, hyperbolic, logarithmic, and critical peak pricing (CPP)-are developed, each reflecting a different price elasticity of demand.

Energy feature extraction and visualization of voltage sags using wavelet packet analysis for enhanced power quality monitoring.

Power quality (PQ) disturbances, such as voltage sags, are significant issues that can lead to damage in electrical equipment and system downtime. Detecting and classifying these disturbances accurately is essential for maintaining reliable power systems. This paper introduces a novel approach to voltage sag analysis by employing wavelet packet analysis combined with energy-based feature extraction to enhance PQ monitoring.
