Objectives: We sought to test the sensitivity and feasibility of a infection screening process consisting of a scored patient consultation questionnaire and a serological diagnostic test.
Study Design: Prospective cross-sectional study.
Methods: We collected from Schistosoma-exposed individuals a 14-point check list of clinical and laboratory data related to infection, alongside a serological test to detect spp infection.
Background: Schistosomiasis among migrant populations in Europe is an underdiagnosed infection, yet delayed treatment may have serious long-term consequences. In this study we aimed to characterize the clinical manifestations of Schistosoma infection among migrant women, and the degree of underdiagnosis.
Methods: We carried out a prospective cross-sectional study among a migrant population living in the North Metropolitan Barcelona area and coming from schistosomiasis-endemic countries.
This study evaluated whether attachment styles might be related to condomless sex, use of drugs, and adherence to antiretroviral treatment (ART) in 400 HIV-positive gay and bisexual men (GBM). Objective: To provide data on incidence of early diagnosis of HIV infections and define prevalence and incidence of asymptomatic sexually transmitted infections (STI) in men who have sex with men (MSM).
Methods: We assessed a prospective cohort study of HIV-uninfected MSM at high risk for HIV infection. Participants were selected through a risk-assessment questionnaire, and they were screened for HIV infection (quarterly) and for other STI (yearly): syphilis, and hepatitis A, B and C (serology); Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in penis and rectum; and human papillomavirus in anus and mouth (PCR).
