Background: The protective impact of the Critical View of Safety (CVS) approach on the vasculo-biliary injuries during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) depends largely upon the understanding of the normal and variant anatomy. Structures exposed during the acquisition of the CVS can deviate from the typical dual configuration of the cystic duct and artery (gallbladder pedicle) representing either a third (supernumerary) or atypical in course (heterotopic) element. The aim of this study was to determine the identity and the frequency of these anatomical elements and to propose anatomic schemata that can guide the achievement of CVS by surgeons.

Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) is the most common chronic liver disorder in Western countries, encompassing a range of conditions from steatosis to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), which can potentially progress to cirrhosis. Lipidomics approaches have revealed significant alterations in the hepatic lipidome associated with both steatosis and steatohepatitis, with these changes correlating with disease manifestation. While the transition from steatosis to MASH remains poorly understood, recent research indicates that both the quantity and quality of deposited lipids play a pivotal role in MASLD progression.

The "streamline flow" of the portal vein (PV) is a controversial yet well-known theory presented almost 125 years ago. It states that blood from the superior mesenteric vein (SMV) goes preferentially to the right liver lobe, while splenic and inferior mesenteric veins divert blood predominantly to the left lobe, affecting this way the metastatic distribution of colorectal cancer (CRC). The aim of this systematic review is to assess its validity by examining and combining all the relevant literature with a critical eye.

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) often co-exists with asthma and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug- exacerbated respiratory disease (N-ERD), creating a more severe phenotype and an additional burden compared with CRSwNP disease alone (1-3). The relationship between these diseases in terms of shared immunological disbalance has been coined in the literature as 'global airway disease' or 'unified airway disease' and requires integrated treatment strategies (4-6). Our post hoc analysis of the Phase III randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre SYNAPSE study (GSK ID: 205687; NCT03085797 (7)) assessed the efficacy of mepolizumab, an anti-interleukin-5 monoclonal antibody, in simultaneously improving both CRSwNP and asthma outcomes versus placebo.

This study examined the mediating role of processing speed between executive functions and social cognition in 67 relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients. Executive functions were assessed using the Trail Making Test-Part B (TMT-B) and the Stroop Neuropsychological Screening Test (SNST); social cognition with the Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (RMET); and processing speed with the Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT). Mediated effects were explored using a series of regression analyses and were further confirmed through bootstrapping procedures.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of the dexamethasone implant on the electrophysiological profile of Diabetic Macular Oedema (DMO) patients over six months.
Methods: In this prospective, single-center study 30 eyes of 22 patients were examined using comprehensive baseline assessments including best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central retinal thickness (CRT), contrast sensitivity (CS) and multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG), before and after 0.7mg dexamethasone implant injection, with follow-ups at months 1, 2, 4, and 6.

Background And Aims: Tissue factor-expressing microvesicles (MV-TF) have been found to correlate with thrombotic complications in various diseases. Simultaneously, there is expanding research regarding the effect of the coagulation cascade on liver fibrosis progression. The aim of our manuscript was to evaluate MV-TF activity in patients with cirrhosis and its correlation with disease severity.

Body weight is impacted by several individual host and environmental factors. In a person living with HIV (PLWH), weight is also influenced by the disease stage. Wasting syndrome is derived from disease progression, and it can be reversed by the effective use of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).

Background Pediatric vascular trauma, although rare, poses significant clinical challenges due to the potential for long-term morbidity, including limb compromise and growth abnormalities. This study addresses the gap in standardized treatment protocols by evaluating the efficacy of heparin-based conservative treatments compared to surgical interventions in children under 13 years of age. Methods A retrospective observational study was conducted at a referral center, reviewing institutional records from January 2010 to December 2020.

Historically, it takes an average of 17 years to move new treatments from clinical evidence to daily practice. Given the highly effective treatments now available to prevent or delay kidney disease onset and progression, this is far too long. The time is now to narrow the gap between what we know and what we do.

Introduction: Do we form mental models which bear an analogical relation to the real world like those of a photograph? Has the language of thought an analogue nature (it makes use of mental imagery) or whether it is exclusively of digital nature like language?
Objectives: The basic aim of the present study is to contribute to the ongoing work on mental imagery by extending the research to an unexplored area that of mental partitioning.
Methods: The present research sample consisted of 498 participants (234 males and 264 females). We used the SPSS software package in order to analyze our data.

As the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) continues to increase globally, researchers are keen to investigate various interventions to mitigate its impact. Among these, vitamin D supplementation has attracted significant attention due to its influence on insulin secretion from the pancreas and insulin receptors in body cells. A substantial body of evidence indicates that vitamin D supplementation can reduce low-grade inflammation, a critical factor in developing insulin resistance.

Aortic valve repair is currently the only effective treatment for calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAVS), as no pharmacological therapies exist to prevent or slow its progression. Recent promising results showed that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) attenuates the calcification of aortic valve interstitial cells. Therefore, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis to investigate the effect of GLP-1 receptor agonism (GLP-1Ra) on the risk of CAVS.
