Collective migration is an important component of many biological processes, including wound healing, tumorigenesis, and embryo development. Spatial agent-based models (ABMs) are often used to model collective migration, but it is challenging to thoroughly predict these models' behavior throughout parameter space due to their random and computationally intensive nature. Modelers often coarse-grain ABM rules into mean-field differential equation (DE) models.

Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder caused by α-galactosidase A gene mutations. Its global incidence ranges from 1:40,000 to 1:170,000. This expert review evaluates the available guidelines, the status of diagnosed but untreated patients with FD, and the challenges in diagnosing and managing FD in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Background: The number of deceased donor kidney transplants has been increasing and is at a record high, yet nonuse of kidneys recovered for transplantation has risen to 25.8% following circular kidney allocation system based on 250-nautical-mile circles implemented on March 15, 2021 (KAS250).
Methods: Using Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients data, we studied all deceased donor kidneys recovered for transplant from March 15, 2019, to January 31, 2023.

Background: Hematopoietic stem progenitor cells (HSPCs) undergo phenotypical and functional changes during their emergence and development. Although the molecular programs governing the development of human hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) have been investigated broadly, the relationships between dynamic metabolic alterations and their functions remain poorly characterized.
Methods: In this study, we comprehensively described the proteomics of HSPCs in the human fetal liver (FL), umbilical cord blood (UCB), and adult bone marrow (aBM).

Since the introduction of the first immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI), immunotherapy has changed the landscape of molecular therapeutics for cancers. However, ICIs do not work equally well on all cancers and for all patients. There has been a growing interest in using mathematical and computational models to optimize clinical responses.

Background: Lipids are of particular interest for the study of neuroinjury and neuroinflammation as structural lipids are major components of myelin, and a variety of lipid species modulate inflammation. In this study, we performed an in-depth lipidomics analysis to identify lipids associated with injury and disease activity.
Methods: Plasma samples were collected from paediatric-onset multiple sclerosis (MS) cases within 4 years of disease onset from 17 sites.

A key strategy for increasing drug mass (DM) while maintaining good safety is to improve the drug release profile (RP). We designed a dual layer coating drug-eluting stent (DES) that exhibited smaller concentration gradients between the coating and the artery wall and significantly impacted the drug RP. However, a detailed understanding of the effects of the DES designed by our team on safety and efficacy is still lacking.

These factors markedly affect diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) metrics such as mean diffusivity (MD) and fractional anisotropy (FA). This work presents a simple preprocessing pipeline for enhanced magnetic field gradient non-uniformity calibration and analysis of the systematic bias removal attained in each correction step.

of advanced diagnostic methods shed the light on the variable course of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Despite establishing AMD classifications used in clinical practice, there are still forms of AMD that do not fit into these systems. The case report presents a rare evolution of non-neovascular form of AMD presenting at baseline as large soft drusen.

Background: Delineation of changes in neural function associated with novel and established treatments for social anxiety disorder (SAD) can advance treatment development. We examined such changes following selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and attention bias modification (ABM) variant - gaze-contingent music reward therapy (GC-MRT), a first-line and an emerging treatments for SAD.
Methods: Eighty-one patients with SAD were allocated to 12-week treatments of either SSRI or GC-MRT, or waitlist (s = 22, 29, and 30, respectively).

Background: Islet transplantation has been associated with better metabolic control and quality of life than insulin treatment alone, but direct evidence of its effect on hard clinical endpoints is scarce. We aimed to assess the effect of islet transplantation on patient-graft survival in kidney transplant recipients with type 1 diabetes.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we enrolled all patients with type 1 diabetes who received a kidney graft in France during the study period, identified from the CRISTAL nationwide registry.

Background: Multiple clinician adjustable parameters impact upon glycemia in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) using Medtronic Mini Med 780G (MM780G) AHCL. These include glucose targets, carbohydrate ratios (CR), and active insulin time (AIT). Algorithm-based decision support advising upon potential settings adjustments may enhance clinical decision-making.

This qualitative study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of community rehabilitation programs for children with developmental delays from the perspective of early intervention service providers in Taiwan. Adopting a single-case experimental design (ABM design), this study examined the immediate and sustained effects of interventions on individualized goals during baseline, intervention, and maintenance phases. Additionally, data from interviews with parents, special education teachers, and other participants were collected to understand the challenges and improvement strategies of community rehabilitation programs.

Capillary morphogenesis gene 2 (CMG2) mediates cell-matrix interactions to facilitate cell adhesion and migration. CMG2 has been implicated in the disease progression of breast cancer, prostate cancer and gastric cancer. The present study aims to determine the role of CMG2 in the disease progression and peritoneal metastasis of pancreatic cancer.

Introduction: In the last decade, melanoma treatment has improved significantly. However, data on population-level treatment utilization and survival trends among older patients is limited. This study aimed to analyze trends in systemic anticancer therapy (Rx), including the uptake of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), in conjunction with trends in cause-specific survival among older patients (66+) diagnosed with advanced melanoma (2008-2019).

Interactions between cancer cells and immune cells in the tumor microenvironment influence tumor growth and can contribute to the response to cancer immunotherapies. It is difficult to gain mechanistic insights into the effects of cell-cell interactions in tumors using a purely experimental approach. However, computational modeling enables quantitative investigation of the tumor microenvironment, and agent-based modeling, in particular, provides relevant biological insights into the spatial and temporal evolution of tumors.

Deriving closed-form analytical expressions for reduced-order models, and judiciously choosing the closures leading to them, has long been the strategy of choice for studying phase- and noise-induced transitions for agent-based models (ABMs). In this paper, we propose a data-driven framework that pinpoints phase transitions for an ABM-the Desai-Zwanzig model-in its mean-field limit, using a smaller number of variables than traditional closed-form models. To this end, we use the manifold learning algorithm Diffusion Maps to identify a parsimonious set of data-driven latent variables, and we show that they are in one-to-one correspondence with the expected theoretical order parameter of the ABM.
