This study investigates the surface energies and work function changes in ZnGaO(111) surfaces with different atomic terminations using ab initio density functional theory. It explores the interactions of gas molecules such as NO, NO, and CHCOCH with Ga-terminated, O-terminated, and Ga-Zn-O-terminated surfaces. This study reveals previously unreported insights into how O-terminated surfaces exhibit enhanced reactivity with NO, resulting in significant work function changes of +6.

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to evaluating the ability of multi-legged robots to traverse confined and geometrically complex unstructured environments. The proposed approach utilizes advanced point cloud processing techniques integrating voxel-filtered cloud, boundary and mesh generation, and dynamic traversability analysis to enhance the robot's terrain perception and navigation. The proposed framework was validated through rigorous simulation and experimental testing with humanoid robots, showcasing the potential of the proposed approach for use in applications/environments characterized by complex environmental features (navigation inside collapsed buildings).

The fusion of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optical satellite imagery poses significant challenges for ship detection due to the distinct characteristics and noise profiles of each modality. Optical imagery provides high-resolution information but struggles in adverse weather and low-light conditions, reducing its reliability for maritime applications. In contrast, SAR imagery excels in these scenarios but is prone to noise and clutter, complicating vessel detection.

This paper presents a novel rail-to-rail Class-AB operational amplifier tailored for wake-up systems in motion sensor applications. By addressing limitations in free Class-AB designs, such as large inrush current, unstable bias conditions, and area ineffiiency, the proposed design achieves a gain of 59 dB and unity gain frequency of 550 kHz driving a 5 pF load. The inrush current is reduced from 1 mA to 7 µA, increasing the battery life.

Preterm birth, even for moderate or late preterm infants (MLPIs), is associated with longer-term developmental challenges. Family Integrated Care (FICare) models of care, like Alberta FICare, aim to improve outcomes by integrating parents into neonatal care during hospitalization. This follow-up study examined the association between models of care (Alberta FICare versus standard care) and risk of child developmental delay at 18 months corrected age (CA) and explored the influences of maternal psychosocial distress.

: Totally endoscopic techniques have become increasingly popular in cardiac surgery, with minimally invasive mitral valve repair emerging as an effective alternative to median sternotomy. This approach could be particularly advantageous for patients with Noonan syndrome, who often present with structural thoracic anomalies and other comorbidities like bleeding disorders. Endoscopic mitral valve surgery is rapidly establishing itself as the new standard of care for mitral valve operations, demonstrating both safety and efficacy.

As the face ages, the skin, fat, muscle, and fascia descend, and the underlying bone, cartilage, and teeth may lose mass. Oculofacial aging is a multifactorial process that is influenced by genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. This review summarizes the patterns of oculofacial aging that are observed across populations, including variations in periorbital hollowing, eyelid ptosis, and skin elasticity.

Patients on chronic anticoagulation undergoing metabolic surgery represent an increased risk of complications, including both bleeding and thrombotic events, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). The optimal perioperative management of patients who are receiving chronic anticoagulation therapy (CAT) is complex. In the colorectal surgery literature, patients on CAT have a 10% rate of peri-procedural bleeding and a 3% rate of thromboembolism.

: Our understanding of the transdiagnostic factors that influence health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in individuals with neurodivergent conditions is very sparse and highly siloed by diagnosis labels. Research on transdiagnostic predictors of HRQOL across neurodevelopmental conditions is needed to enable care models that address shared needs of neurodivergent individuals beyond diagnostic boundaries. Our objective was to identify transdiagnostic factors associated with HRQOL in children with autism, epilepsy, or comorbid autism/epilepsy.

Epigenetic abnormalities play a critical role in colon carcinogenesis, making them a promising target for therapeutic interventions. In this study, we demonstrated that curcumin reduces colon cancer cell survival and that a decrease in lysine methylation was involved in such an effect. This correlated with the downregulation of methyltransferases EZH2, MLL1, and G9a, in both wild-type p53 (wtp53) HCT116 cells and mutant p53 (mutp53) SW480 cells, as well as SET7/9 specifically in wtp53 HCT116 cells.

The abnormal growth of irregular new blood vessels into the subretinal or intraretinal space is known as macular neovascularization (MNV). People over 50 are often affected by this disorder, which is typically brought on by age-related macular degeneration. In addition, MNV can be found in people under 50 years of age, who may present primary ophthalmic diseases such as pathological myopia, angioid streaks, traumatic choroidal rupture, or suspected ocular histoplasmosis syndrome.

To provide insight into the interface structure in Ti particle-reinforced Mg matrix composites, this study investigates the inherent Mg/Ti interface structure formed during the solidification of supercooled Mg melt on a (0001)Ti substrate using ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations and density function theory (DFT) calculation. The resulting interface exhibits an orientation relationship of 0001Mg//0001Ti with a lattice mismatch of approximately 8%. Detailed characterizations reveal the occurrences of 0001Mg plane rotation and vacancy formation to overcome the lattice mismatch at the inherent Mg/Ti interface while allowing Mg atoms to occupy the energetically favorable hollow sites above the Ti atomic layer.
