Wilson's disease (WD) (OMIM 277900) or hepatolenticular degeneration is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by impaired copper excretion with subsequent accumulation in the liver, brain, and other tissues of the body. The defects in copper metabolism are based on various pathogenic variants of the ATP7B gene encoding copper-transporting P-type ATPase. The aim of this work is to search for pathogenic variants of the ATP7B gene among Eastern Eurasian patient cohorts and to pick correlations between pathogenic variants, gender, age of onset of the disease, and the course of the disease.

Liposomal drug delivery systems are successfully used in various fields of medicine for external and systemic applications. Marine organisms contain biologically active substances that have a unique structure and exhibit a wide range of biological activities. Polysaccharide of red seaweed (carrageenan (CRG)), and water-insoluble sea urchin pigment (echinochrome (Ech)) interact with each other and form a stable complex.

Five new non-holostane di- and trisulfated triterpene pentaosides, conicospermiumosides A-1 (), A-2 (), A-3 (), A-1 (), and A-2 () were isolated from the Far Eastern sea cucumber Levin et Stepanov (Cucumariidae, Dendrochirotida). Twelve known glycosides found earlier in other species were also obtained and identified. The structures of new compounds were established on the basis of extensive analysis of the 1D and 2D NMR spectra, as well as by the HR-ESI-MS data.

Glycosylation is a ubiquitous and the most structurally diverse post-translational modification of proteins. High levels of phenotypic heterogeneity in brain tumors affect the biosynthetic pathway of glycosylation machinery, resulting in aberrant glycosylation patterns. Traditionally, unique glycocode readers, carbohydrate-binding proteins, have been used to identify differentially expressed carbohydrate determinants associated with the tumor cell surface.

The local application of broad-spectrum antibiotics via polymeric drug delivery systems is a promising alternative to their systemic administration in wound healing, prevention and treatment of infections associated with surgical implants. However, low and poorly controlled loading efficiency and 100% burst release are common problems for the materials with weak physical interaction between antibiotics and polymeric matrices. Here, we report a new multifunctional carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) cryogel, which efficiently prevents bacterial adhesion to the surface, kills bacteria in the solution via controlled release of ciprofloxacin (CIP), and promotes fibroblast proliferation.

Amyloid beta (Aβ) is a neuronal metabolic product that plays an important role in maintaining brain homeostasis. Normally, intensive brain Aβ formation is accompanied by its effective lymphatic removal. However, the excessive accumulation of brain Aβ is observed with age and during the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD) leading to cognitive impairment and memory deficits.

In the phylum Nemertea, the class Hoplonemertea (former Enopla) comprises the largest number of studied species with complex spermatozoa. Asteronemertes gibsoni Chernyshev, 1991, a nemertean species having a symbiotic relationship with sea stars, is characterized by complex filiform spermatozoa. Here, spermatogenesis and spermatozoon structure in A.

This work describes Bryozoa of the order Cheilostomata associated with polymetallic nodules collected by box-coring in the eastern part of the Russian exploration area of the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone (CCFZ or CCZ) under contract to Yuzhmorgeologiya. Study of 569 cheilostome specimens from 4510-5280 m depth yielded 32 species (22 new) in 20 genera (3 new) and 14 families (1 new). For six species, the nomenclature was left open (genus only) owing to the paucity of defining characters.

Molecular studies have suggested conspecificity of individuals collected worldwide but showed high genetic variability of the species with the highest diversity of haplotypes in the South African population. We have compared the morphology and genetic data of shell-boring worms from Kuwait, which were previously assigned to P.

In this paper, we present a refined version of the previously proposed suspension contractile model based on catch muscle proteins of the Gray's mussel (Crenomytilus grayanus). The objective of this model was to test the current hypotheses about the catch state, a unique phenomenon observed in the adductor muscle of bivalve molluscs. This state allows the muscle to maintain the force developed by contraction for a long time with minimum energy expenditure.

Mutations in IDH1 and TP53 have a significant impact on glioma prognosis and progression; however, their roles in tumor cell invasion in terms of interactions with particular components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) are still unclear. Using gene editing protocol based on CRISPR-Cas 9 with cytidine deaminase, we introduced point mutations into U87MG glioblastoma cells to establish modified cell lines with heterozygous IDH1 R132H, homozygous TP53 R248Q and heterozygous IDH1 R132H, homozygous TP53 R248Q genotypes. A comparative study of cell migration on major ECM components was carried out by high-content microscopy.

The design of fast, endurant, and biocompatible porous frameworks with solvatochromism, aimed to addressing the multiple visual sensing of chemicals, still remains a challenge. Here, we report on a solvatochromic metal-organic framework (MOF) based on cobalt and trimesic acid. We examined its solvatochromism through the solvent exchange and revealed high selectivity to water/dimethylformamide combination.

Optical clearing of invertebrates, the number of species of which is 20 times greater than that of vertebrates, is of fundamental and applied interest for neuroscience in general. Herein, the optical clearing of invertebrates to identify their morphology and neurostructure remains unrealized as of yet. Here, we report on fast (from a few seconds to minutes) and uniform whole-body optical clearing of invertebrates (bivalves, nemertines, annelids, and anomura) of any age and thickness (up to 2 cm) possessing complicated structures and integuments.

In light of the morphological and molecular data for cyclocoelids observed from the air sacs of Mareca strepera (Linnaeus) (Anatidae, Anseriformes) caught in the southern region of the Russian Far East, we suggest new insights into the systematics of the family Cyclocoelidae. A comparative morphological and phylogenetic analyzes revealed that new cyclocoelids represented the new genus and species Paracyclocoelum lobatum. Based on the 28S rRNA gene fragment we showed the significant genetic divergence of P.
