Molecular pathways of liver regeneration: A comprehensive review.

The liver is a unique parenchymal organ with a regenerative capacity allowing it to restore up to 70% of its volume. Although knowledge of this phenomenon dates back to Greek mythology (the story of Prometheus), many aspects of liver regeneration are still not understood. A variety of different factors, including inflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and bile acids, promote liver regeneration and control the final size of the organ during typical regeneration, which is performed by mature hepatocytes, and during alternative regeneration, which is performed by recently identified resident stem cells called "hepatic progenitor cells".

The skin is a combination of two different types of tissue-epithelial and connective (mesenchymal). The outer protective layer of the skin, the epidermis, consists of multiple layers of keratinocytes residing on the basement membrane that separates them from the underlying dermis, which consists of a well-vascularized fibrous extracellular matrix seeded mainly by fibroblasts and mesenchymal stromal cells. These skin features suggest that the development of a fibroblast-friendly porous scaffold covered with a flat dense sheath mimicking the basement membrane, and sufficient to support keratinocyte attachment, would be a reasonable approach in the generation of clinically-relevant skin substitutes useful for reconstructive dermatology and burn treatment.

Aim        To compare assessments of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) volumes obtained with a semi-automatic, physician-performed analysis and an automatic analysis using a machine-learning algorithm by data of low-dose (LDCT) and standard computed tomography (CT) of chest organs.Material and methods        This analytical, retrospective, transversal study randomly included 100 patients from a database of a united radiological informational service (URIS). The patients underwent LDCT as a part of the project "Low-dose chest computed tomography as a screening method for detection of lung cancer and other diseases of chest organs" (n=50) and chest CT according to a standard protocol (n=50) in outpatient clinics of Moscow.

We studied a biomaterial for a new domestic product, a biological envelope for implantation of cardiac electronic devices. The product is designed to prevent complications after pacemaker implantation and to facilitate the reimplantation procedure. By chemical and biological processing of raw materials (submucosa of porcine small intestine), an acellular extracellular collagen matrix was obtained.

Immune Status of Pancreatic Cancer Patients Receiving Cryosurgery.

Cryosurgery used on patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer improved their quality of life, but mainly because of the pain relief. In postoperative patients, multifaceted changes in immunity were found, and the state of the immune system prior to surgery often was a decisive factor to indicate whether further disorders in the postoperative period would develop, or by contrast, it would boost its recovery. Some patients receiving cryosurgery showed immune system imbalance and activation, and of antitumor immunity in particular.
