Chemicals reactivating epigenetically silenced genes target diverse classes of enzymes, including DNMTs, HDACs, HMTs and BET protein family members. They can strongly influence the expression of genes and endogenous retroviral elements with concomitant dsRNA synthesis and massive transcription of LTRs. Chemicals reactivating gene expression may cause both beneficial effects in cancer cells and may be hazardous by promoting carcinogenesis.

The liver is a unique parenchymal organ with a regenerative capacity allowing it to restore up to 70% of its volume. Although knowledge of this phenomenon dates back to Greek mythology (the story of Prometheus), many aspects of liver regeneration are still not understood. A variety of different factors, including inflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and bile acids, promote liver regeneration and control the final size of the organ during typical regeneration, which is performed by mature hepatocytes, and during alternative regeneration, which is performed by recently identified resident stem cells called "hepatic progenitor cells".

The outer protective layer of the skin, the epidermis, consists of multiple layers of keratinocytes residing on the basement membrane that separates them from the underlying dermis, which consists of a well-vascularized fibrous extracellular matrix seeded mainly by fibroblasts and mesenchymal stromal cells. These skin features suggest that the development of a fibroblast-friendly porous scaffold covered with a flat dense sheath mimicking the basement membrane, and sufficient to support keratinocyte attachment, would be a reasonable approach in the generation of clinically-relevant skin substitutes useful for reconstructive dermatology and burn treatment.

Up to 10% of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have locally advanced disease with venous tumour thrombosis involving the inferior vena cava (IVC). 30-50% of them present with synchronous metastatic disease. Surgical treatment remains the only potentially radical method for patients suffering from RCC and IVC tumour thrombosis without distant metastases.

Background: Long-term outcomes depend heavily on the possibility of performing radical resection.
Purpose: To evaluate long-term results in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHC) patients from the perspective of a new understanding of radical resection.
Methods: Consecutive PHC patients who underwent surgical resection at A.
We studied a biomaterial for a new domestic product, a biological envelope for implantation of cardiac electronic devices. The product is designed to prevent complications after pacemaker implantation and to facilitate the reimplantation procedure. By chemical and biological processing of raw materials (submucosa of porcine small intestine), an acellular extracellular collagen matrix was obtained.

Cryosurgery used on patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer improved their quality of life, but mainly because of the pain relief. In postoperative patients, multifaceted changes in immunity were found, and the state of the immune system prior to surgery often was a decisive factor to indicate whether further disorders in the postoperative period would develop, or by contrast, it would boost its recovery. Some patients receiving cryosurgery showed immune system imbalance and activation, and of antitumor immunity in particular.

Objective: To investigate the expression of moesin, p21-activated kinase 4 (PAK 4), matrix metalloproteinases (MMP 2, MMP 9), and CD34 in the eutopic and ectopic endometrium in different forms of adenomyosis.
Material And Methods: Fifty uteri removed for diffuse adenomyosis and for adenomyomas were examined in reproductive-aged (n=25) and premenopausal (n=25) women. A comparison group included 20 uteri removed for intramural and subserosal fibroids in reproductive-aged and premenopausal women.
